Well, another year bites the dust. Happy New Year guys! Hope you're outlook for 07 is as good as mine!

PS - Just watched the season finale to the BBC Robin Hood, ahhh SO GOOOD! No spoilers, but every episode ends on like a still-shot (remember, Police Files/Naked Gun spoofed that method) and anyways on this last episode it has the gang walking out of a castle and then they all go "YEAH!" and kinda jump n cheer and it freezes on that - SO FUCKING GREAT. I love the nacho cheezyness!
The one that got away

Oh man, I really should've taken Leslie's advice and grabbed the Wii from Target, but instead I was all in a hurry to hit the road so we just left. But since then I have become obsessed with finding one. I've probably wasted 4 hours checking stores and it would've taken maybe half an hour out of our way to go get one.

Mostly I'm obsessed because it seems like such a fun thing to have at the New Year's Eve party tonight. In my mind, the Wii has grown into this device of mammoth fun generation that would ensure that the party is a hit. Instead, now that there is no Wii, it will be a solemn affair, only the dreary noise of our lips smacking drowning out the sound of our thoughts. Apologies guys!

I love Guitar Hero II. I'm playing through hard and am at the fifth group of songs. It emphasizes different skills than the first one. I think there's more extreme hand movement. However, so far I seem to be up to the task! I will demolish you, Hangar 18!!!

As for the game spreadsheet idear, good call. I for one am tired of seeing "750-point Merc vs. Cygnar mega-showdown!" every time I log into the site, myself. Therefore, it is done! The current stuff now belongs to the 2006 tab, as of tomorrow start using the 2007 tab. Huzzah for internets!
when i stop being sick u gotta let me come and try out that wii! i'm super half-assed looking for one. i mean, i figure by march it'll be like going into best buy to grab a ps2 now, ya think? i just don't feel like hunting around atm.
Thanks for the Holiday Cheer, Trashy.com!

- Leslie found a Wii 2 days after Xmas and it is a blast! Zelda is teh rox0rz, Call of Duty is teh 5hitz0rz, and Wii Sports Rul3z!

- Down to only Hangar 18 and Freebird on GHII, wish me luck everyone, I certainly don't WANT to break my guitar over the TV because it won't activate the Star Power when I need it to, but I am getting closer every time I play...

- Combat Commander by GMT is one of the best games I have ever played.

- I vote that we save/print the current game log and file it under 2006 and start a new 2007 spreadsheet. Agreed? Maybe we can add it as an appendix to the Action Team Book: Eject Functionality, that is due to hit the shelves 2 years ago?

Ugh. Sorry you're sick duder. I don't think I'm responsible... I had more of a sore throat kinda thing, no flu symptoms. I remember your awesome Nyquil dreams. Keep us informed on any out-of-body experiences like the one you had in high school (weird I remember that).

Meanwhile, may I suggest this fine lady as a panacea? Keep in mind, this is but one of the many fine offerings over at our sponsor, Trashy Lingerie (trashy.com); only the best, for only the actioniest!

Paging all Ja-Els

I don't have a contact number for you (besides some number for your mom, which I tried)... I want to invite you to tomorrow night's New Year's party but I gotta get in touch with you first! You have my number, call me up!
So i've been having awesome Nyquil-Dreams the last few nights. The first night I was sick (wed night I believe) I had a gnarly fever, so you KNOW I had to have a mega-realistic nutty dream. I unfortunately don't really remember it, but it had something to do with sphincter like doorways, kinda like something outta Aliens or I dunno, Doom. And there were all these people talking like Dune politics. It was fun though!

Then last night I had a pretty fun one that was totally related to Narbacular Drop and maybe a little bit of that show Heroes. Like I had the portals power from the game and there were dudes trying to stop me and they had their own powers (like lame ones though - one guy could turn off the power in a room!? zzz) But yeah, it was weird. Most of the dream I was stuck on a bed while too gangster kinda guys were trying to get me and I kept trying to open a portal way off in the distance but it wasnt working right.

I have the flu (or something like it) so I'm gonna have a fucking awesome New Years!!!!!!!!!
Howdy all! Hope everyone had a fantasimal Xmas-Chewbanikka-Kwanzaa week. Rood, those toys are sa-weeeet, brother! Sorry we didn't make it down to L.A.. had we known everyone was going to be in town, we woulda done so. The day was good here.. ate some bird, Haylee tore into many a present and did pretty good.. lotsa books, which is always good.

On a down note, I'm not sure how many of you knew her, or of her, outside of Aaron and perhaps Eric, but my Godmother, Shannon, died a couple days before Christmas. She was one of the sweetest, sharpest, kindest, most full of life and extraordinary people I've ever known. The world is a little less bright for her passing.

Wednesday, December 27, 2006

Hahaha, those are some ugly fucking toys! Is that really supposed to be the Punisher!?

Hope everybody had a good Christmas. Mine was great. I'm running an errand and have some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket... might pick up a Wii if they have any at Best Buy (see, I can safely say that because there is no, no chance that they'll have any).

Thanks for hosting the Guitar Hero II party Aeryk. Also thanks again many times for the games. I can guarantee you Serenissima will get a decent workout in the Bay Area. Give me a call if you're coming by today (or I can swing by)... I'll be out of the house until about 5:00 but we can meet anytime after that.

Oh, and because nobody posted one, here's a belated Xmas babe, courtesy of our sponsors at trashy.com: purveyors of actiony-action garments!

next x-mas I want these toys:

Tuesday, December 26, 2006

Cool. I'll look forward to seeing you all today. (Sorry I missed Christmas Eve...)

Monday, December 25, 2006

Glad you guys made it this year!

Gaming tomorrow (Tuesday) sounds great. I have 1 WoW deck and Savage Worlds.... I'm gonna sleep the hell in, then I'll start calling around!

Hope everyone had a great Xmas!
Merry Christmas guys! I hooked up with Enron and Jon and a bunch of old friends - was awesome! Nice to see all the folks again. Tuesday-day I'm up for some gaming, so hope we can get that going. I got some awesome CLOTHES for x-mas, anyone get any cool toys? Wii's!?

Saturday, December 23, 2006

Hahaha. Growing up, my family would sit down as the bar and give dollar bills to the strippers... oh wait, that's how you and me spend Christmas.

Why don't you give me a call tomorrow about 1:30, we'll meet up, drink to make the pain go away.

Oh and watch this Justin Timberlake skit from SNL. Hilarious.
Baby Jesus, the family z-mas party is outta the way.

Growing up, every night for dinner my family would sit down to eat... in different parts of the house. That's just how I grew up, and that's how I like it. But holiday gatherings where yer expected to sit TOGETHER for a whole meal WITH A BUNCH OF STRANGERS THROWN IN (ie, family and friends) - ugh. Drives me nuts. But, it's over. Drank a lot and ate a lot and now I'm free again (ie, alone in my room rubbing one off to a youtube booty video.) Ok, the last part is a lie. Just got home! Gotta work up some christ-mass steam!

PEE-ESS: I'll try and make it tomorrow Jon. I'll try calling you or something tomorrow. I'm playing "Teh Longest Journey" right now - never played it, but it gets lots of kudos for being an awesome adventure game. 2.5gigs, better be good! So far, not too bad. I complained about all the dialoge in Broken Sword 2, but this game is just MAD with talking. At first it was pretty depressing but once you get the initial 30 minute conversations outta the way it starts to have a puzzle or two. Slow start, but I'm starting to enjoy it. Then I can get that new sequel, Dreamfall.

Saturday night for me, assboat!

Dive Into The Holidays

So as usual, y'all are invited to the Christmas Eve's afternoon get-together at the Poop Deck/Mermaid. We generally go to the Poop Deck around 2-3:00 and have some cheapass beer, then move on to the Mermaid and have some snacks and mixed drinks before saying adios around 5:30-6:00 and moving on to our respective destinations. It is tons of fun, a surprisingly fun way to spend the early hours of Xmas Eve, and, as usual, is utterly futile for me to even mention, because none of you guys will show up! Be there or be square!

I'd also love it if we could get together for an Action Team game session Tuesday or Wednesday... either of those days are fine with me. Anyone interested?
so when do u cocksuckers start showing up in town already!?!
I <3 butts

Ry, that website is priceless. Uggg... Every time I make it back down there I get so bummed out that Manhattan and Hermosa are nothing like when I was younger. I know part of that is viewing things through the rose tinted glasses of nostalgia, but I know a lot of the difference lies in the flood of money.

Booo...
I <3 Teh Tree Section

This tool lives around the corner from us and he has those stickers all over his cars. I have decided that I don't want to work with him because his vanity plate says "PAY" on it. I assume these are his initials, but still, for some reason I don't want wanna deal with an agent with that on his plates.

BTW, the plate is on a sweet Chrysler Le Baron. Another reason I would NEVER work with him, I'm snooty like that!
Hey Eric... did you guys check out this website before you bought your current house? More importantly, have you checked it out before you have decided to move away? Just wondering... there's still time to decide to stay!!!

ADDED:
As my adventure-game reintroduction slowly comes to an end (Broken Sword 2 is kinda weaksauce - I can't take all the dialoge) I found Ron Gilbert's blog - he made the Monkey Island games and like maybe Maniac Mansion (I'm already forgetting what I learned 3 minutes ago). Anyways way back when he gave his impressions on WoW. Man, what a globall game. I remember when I first played it too - I remember the early days when we were all sitting around that big log under the dock in Darkshore just shootin the shit. The good 'ol days. Ohh, and here's a really interesting podcast with this dude.

Working a desk job with a 98% (self-induced) downtime, I've discovered the joys and pains of the web wide world. Anyways, I've gone back to a daily dose of Something Awful - I can usually get a few genuine giggles out of it. If you guys haven't seen this brilliant bit, CLiCK! - Its the newspaper clippings (under the "What The" heading there.) Brilliant. Some of the best stuff is the non-circled ads. They've got a few really good and funny writers.

This is a pointless observation that I noticed while I was cooking up some eggs this morning...

Did you notice that some of the eggs are fertilized? It's wierd thinking that I am inadvertently eating some chicken spew. Meh.

My friend got one of those epson personal photo printers for Xmas. It's really cool. I have to say digital printers have come a long way and the pictures are of the same quality as those you would develop at the store. (one of thos 5x8 photos (standard)

Picture this

This models discont, but used to retail for under 100 i think.

This particular liunk worked well for me - good if you are just using em as backups ya know. Errr... Yeah, finished "The Dig" - it was good! Not the best, but definately had some cool puzzles in it. There was one STUPIDLY hard puzzle I had to lookup on the internet for. Other than that, just about as hard as other games of that era. Next up, I dunno - maybe Broken Sword 2 or something.
>>Hei dude
>>You Love Big tits? But Girls love big weenie!
>>If you don't have one - GET ONE!
>>Not only a larger meat will make you feel better, it will make you look better!

I love spam, it makes me laugh.

Rude - cool find! I've downloaded ScummVM, now trying to find my old games to play... why were they some much better back then. (God we sound old.)

I'll be even older on Monday - boo!

Saturday, December 16, 2006

to Jon (and Mike, and some other non-AT members who wrote Leslie and I checks for things):

Apologies, the checks are in an envelope that has just resurfaced this afternoon. We had to get the house ready to show today at noon, and much stuff was moved around, misplaced, lost et cetera. So, the checks are in hand, and they will go to the bank today, no shit.
Nice find! The Dig was the one LucasArts adventure I never played. I've still got my copy of the Monkey Island copy protection wheel around here somewhere! Maybe I should dig that game out again. SO fun.

Friday, December 15, 2006

I'm playing an old LucasArts adventure game called The Dig right now. So far, pretty darn good! Nice voice acting and the graphics are passable (I like the style of these games, so I actually dig the graphics.) I'm running it on ScummVM - also grabbed monkey island 1 and 2, Sam n Max 1, Loom and Broken Sword 2. I had played Broken Sword 1 recently so thats why I nabbed the sequel. Yeah, I recently played that new Sam and Max game and although it was uber-short (they're putting them out as "episodes") it got me back in the old point-n-click adventure gamin mode. Fun times. Don't think I'm motivated to do the Indy games again although I really dug them at the time. I'm sure I'll play through The Dig just cause I know nothing about it and it kinda has a "serious" vibe to it, but I'll definately at least load up and dabble in the other ones I got.
you guys are nuts... trading one game addiction for another.. instead of world of warcrack, your getting into the Worlds of Warcrack, the Collectable Crack game.

sigh. ok. I'll have to detoxify all of you this christmas.

What's up with Deal or No deal... The show is the blurst except for the hot tanned cleavaged ladies holding up the briefcases.

I just got a Sling unit. It's kinda neat. I connect the cable in my house and it allows me to access the unit through the internet in the Philippines and stream it on my computer. Anyway, the concept is cool, but I'll have to try it out this time i go back.

Thursday, December 14, 2006

The game's a pretty decent hit at work. We've played a couple of times and sucked in a new player (the hockey motherfucker, actually, so I might just buy him some boostars $$ez). And there's another guy who's gonna get suckered in.

The cool thing is that the game store in Berkeley, amazingly, is both selling the boosters and starters for MSRP, and has a seemingly unlimited supply of them. EVERYWHERE else in the SF area is out or selling them at ridiculous prices.

Tomorrow there will be four barely constructed starters against Onyxia! The slaughter should be glorious.
damn nows i a wanna buy a box of boosterz! cool they sell "starter decks" for like 6 bucks (so i dont have to be a frackin hunter)
To Jon: OK

For the rest of you, or rather the rest of you that play, or will SOON play, the WoW card game, Star City Games has boosters in stock at list price. More importantly, they sell singles, as well as the starter decks for all the classes without all the guesswork! I think it is kinda cool and am thinking about filling out some cards that appear mandatory for the class (Dispel Magic for 50 cents!). Just thought I would pass it along.

Rudy picked up a starter! Lo and behold, there are now THREE Elendils planning on Raiding Onyxia's Lair this Xmas break! /cry

Wednesday, December 13, 2006

Hey Eric, Please Cash the Check I Gave You at GenCon Soon

Trying to pay my bills and shit and having that extra $102 floating around somewhere scares the hell out of me... worried I'll overdraw my account or something... thanks dawg!

Tuesday, December 12, 2006

Art, embarassngly enough, I know from where that spam comes. All of the names mentioned are from the Howard Stern Show. I think that it is probably a description of one of their episodes. Not sure why it ended up as spam, but I think the source is correct.

I just saw a commercial for Tony Hawk Project 8, and it looks really kick-ass. That commerical was followed by an add for American Pie: The Naked Mile, which looks really crappy.
Damn That's Cool!

I don't post so much Warmachine stuff lately, but I had to post this. PP is selling an alternate sculpt of the Dire Troll Mauler over their website that is hugemongous, and really cool (although funnily enough, I think it could be painted better). The comparison shot to the original model is cool. Fifty bones! Wow.

Damn I'm Stupid!

So me and three guys at work formed a mini-WoW CCG league today. We headed over to Games of Berkeley and each person picked up a starter deck and one booster. The limit is one booster per week, free trading. They're all super into CCGs and most of them played WoW before so it should be cool.

One of the guys read the rulebook and pointed out an error I'd made that was so elemental, it simultaneously made me feel moronic and greatly enhanced my enjoyment of the game. I'd thought that you could ONLY use a class ability if your character had that talent, ie I thought that Priests with the Holy talent could not use Shadow spells. Suddenly I can use all of my cards! I am chagrined yet pleased.

Monday, December 11, 2006

Wow. You should buy their products in appreciation.

Hilarious picture Rudy... have you done any extra work lately, or has the new job put the brakes to it? Personally, I think you should keep on jugglin' (never gets old!).

This is pretty funny. It's a guy trying to explain on the phone to Verizon customer service the difference between .002 dollars and .002 cents. None of the reps believe there's a difference and keep bouncing him to other people. Long but funny!
That's some weird shit. I plugged one of the lines into google and saw it came from a celebrity news site. But those random lines together kinda form their own bizzaro story. Good times.
This may be the best spam content I've ever received. Sorry for the length, but I just couldn't bring myself to edit this piece of artwork down. It just didn't seem right.

He was also watching the Steelers game.

I was helping Dexter with his latest case. Was exciting.
The main bummer/strike against a Firefly MMO is that it's being developed using a cookie-cutter MMORPG system called Meta-something. It's gonna be a cheap and user-friendly system for would-be designers to make their own MMO. And someone licensed Firefly for it. So, you know it's gonna be poop.

Rudy's Weekend Moviethon Wrapup!
1. Cars - Was pretty good. Least fave of the Pixar ones so far though. Kinda burnt that it was ALL cars and no animals or anything, but still a billion times better than any Shrek-type of movie.
2. Hostel - I actually liked this one. Wasn't EVEN as gorey as I remember hearing it was gonna be. Way better than friggin Saw, and I'm glad *minor spoiler* that it didn't really take place too long in the torture rooms like I thought it would. Liked the whole ending-section quite a bit.
3. The Descent - Cool spelunking-horror flick. Didn't live up to the hype for me of being "SO TERRIFYING OMG" but it was well-done and looked great (for what I'm sure was prolly a low budget.) Very little actual scares for me. I think John Carpenter movies freak me out more. Religious imagery and shit like that always scares me more than mole-men.
4. Green Street Hooligans - Oh, pretty bad. I just wanted to break up the horror-fest, but instead got a whole nuther kinda horror. Frodo is an weird dude.
5. Miami Vice - Mixed reaction. Sunny had a DISGUSTING mullet and mustache - have NO idea why they did that. Ugh. Rico was cool but hardly in it. Was WAY too much globe trotting, maybe shoulda stayed in Miami. BUT, was still pretty quality. Actually had a "big boss fight at end of movie in nighttime setting" that didn't make me sick. I dug the last shootout. You guys notice that though, how in MOST movies it seems the main fight at the end is at fucking night and its drawn out and boring? My thoughts at least. This one was good though.
On Deck: Munich and History of Violence.
Oh yea, if the Firefly MMORPG ever comes out, i get dibs on the HOT companion character, oh wait psycho elfy ninja girl... mmmm psycho elfy ninja girl.
Jon, the game is a horrible money sink like Magic! It's the devil's tentacled spawn. Mmmm tentacles... Run for your life!

I assume, you're only playing with the starter deck. The play won't be as varied and focused. So like Magic, the game forces you to spend your grandchildren's inheritance on boosters like sweet, sweet heroin. Good thing the shortage is keeping a rein on my spending. Once you customize your deck though, playstyle should be different.

I like the fact that there is a wide variation of deck construction based on the classes. The only problem is that many of the class specific abilities are uncommons and rares. This is basically an open invitation for Upperdeck to slip its hand into my back pocket and tenderly cup my left butt cheek as it empties my wallet.

I originally tried making an all night elf deck with the hunter. Unfortunately it didn't do too well, so I was forced to put some dirty, dirty dwarves and gnomes in the deck. It's a weenie deck with mostly cheap allies and abilities filling in the rest (not many hunter specific ones though). No equipment (I don't have enough copies to make it worthwhile). My deck is too big (80ish cards) so results have been hit or miss depending on luck of the shuffle.

Eric and I tried the raid deck last night with our regular PvP decks. The results were just like the video game; that is a two-man raid group versus Onyxia. It wasn't pretty. I think at the end there were around eighteen dragon whelps feasting on our carcasses. The interesting thing about raid play is that deck construction has to be modified to work as a group. So cards that one wouldn't normally find useful are seen in a different light. Bringing us back to the fact the Warcraft has found another way beat me up for my lunch money.

Damn it's cold in my apartment. Is it bad when your toes are purple?

Did you guys hear they've announced a Firefly MMORPG? All there is right now is a press release, so there's no exciting pictures to show. Could be neat though. One thing I am worried about is what kind of roles everybody will play. I mean there are only nine characters on the show, and there will be at least twice that many players.

Aeryk and Denis, what are your takes on the strategic variety of the WoW CCG? So far I have only played one game. It seems that the way it plays is that in the first few turns not much of anything happens, then eventually one player builds up a mammoth wave of allies and crushes the other player... have you seen a lot of complexity outside of this? I'm not complaining, it is a fun and hassle-free type of game, I'm just interested in learning how the experience fills out as you add cards. I picked up the raid deck (phat loot w00t) and will bring it down for Christmas if you don't already have it... it'd be fun to get a group together and try to put the whuppin' on Onyxia!
Yeah, the Raiders are a sad sight. I'm not into football (American or Everywhere Else-ian) but I work in the East Bay and all the Raiders fans have been bummin' the whole year. I don't know what the problem is but it sounds like they need to follow that old adage, "the best offense, is some offense."

So, in the move, my girlfriend's ancient stereo finally bit the dust and I am mulling over options for a replacement as an Xmas gift. I'm considering two options. The first is to just buy a new stereo with CD changers and shit. We actually do listen to CDs pretty often (how quaint) so that's workable. That's option 1. I don't know a lot about stereos/music equipment though, anybody have some good links or advice? A lot of the sites I Googled up seem suspicious or biased.

The other option is to get one of those fancy-pants units that you dock an iPod into. They're kinda expensive, but they're oh, so hip. I don't really know much about them besides, they seem cool and they are conveniently compact.

Advice?
I know I'm the only person that's into football.. but there's a real possibility of my beloved Raiders having the #1 defense (they already have the #1 passing defense and #8 rushing defense for #3 overall) and the worst *offense* in the league when the final game is played. That's never happened before. This has been a year of many firsts and 'recent' records.. when we played the Texans with their impressive passing attack last week, our defense held them to NEGATIVE passing yards (32 total minus sack yards) but we still managed to lose the game because the offense gave up 5 turnovers and had two of them returned for touchdowns. Feh.

Ok, I will blog every fucking day now until you lazy frackers write something. I like reading Jane Epenson's blog. She writes for a lot of my fave shows (including last nights BSG) and its just a pretty interesting read. NOW YOU COCK SUCKERS WRITE SOMETHING CUZ IM TIRED OF LOOKIN AT MY ULGY MUG ON THIS PAGE OMG.

Thursday, December 07, 2006

Eww, did you guys ever see DnD movie 2? I never even heard of it. Wiki sez it has lots of refrences to famous game items and even modules, haha so might have to check it out!

Tuesday, December 05, 2006

Jeez Art, that school project shit is SO depressing sounding. I HATED those types of things, but as fate always had it for me, I'd get in a group of equally lazy folks, so we'd all kinda squirt out a passable piece of work. But I'd always here similiar stories to yers from my more studious friends.

Heroes is a good show. BUT, I dunno, I've lost a little bit of love for it last few episodes. This week's show was cool, but I think it suffers the same kinda problem that any of these ensemble kinda shows suffer: one or two of the story-lines is CRAP and it bums you out when those scenes come on. I'm kinda that way with the "Niki Whatsherfucking-lastname" scenes, and kind of even the cheerleader ones. I'm just kinda, "meh." when they come on. But whatever - fun show for sure, and definately light years ahead of most network-tv dramas.

My fave shows this year have been:
Doctor Who!?
BSG
Dexter (I know eric hates a lot of the acting in it and the voice over, but I really dig those parts of it. Believe it or not, my main boss in the office (a leuitnant i spellz good) is pretty darn CLOSE to that guy in Dexter who's all loud and suspicious of Dex heh.)
And prolly now the new Robin Hood from BBC. Just crammed 9 episodes down my fucking throat over the last couple days and I'm all hooked on that one.

i ToTALLY feel the same way about Lost that you do Ry. I watched Season 1 on DvD in like a week, then half of season 2 on downloadington, then once I hit the "live shows" and you had to wait a week or more inbetween, boooo. I still watch it, but it's totally fallin down a few notches for me. PLUS i think season 1 is the best cuz they had a few ppl writing/directing from the buffyverse hehe. Then those dudes split once the show got HuRGE and "the man" took over.

Yeah, I watch way too much tv too. :( Doesnt feel as dirty as the 'ol WoW days though, weird.
Eric, not only did I say Lost rocked, but I seem to recall one day when I was singing the praises of Heroes, this is how it went:

Me: Heroes is an amazing show. I think you'd really like it. It has a lot of elements that you seem to like.

You: I dunno... "Save the cheerleader, save the world." I'm not into it.

Me:*sigh* ...

Sometimes I know what I am talking about.

I actually think that Heroes is my new favorite show on TV. It has since taken the place of Lost, a show that I am kind of pissed at. It is one of those shows that strings you along and is pretty stingey with information. Heroes is good EVERY WEEK and it leaks new info at an acceptable rate. I could deal with Lost when I was watching the DVDs, because I could simply go on to the next episode. Now that I am watching it episode to episode, it's annoying. But I am hooked on it like crack and I can't stop watching.

Whatever though. Both shows are on hiatus until late January. I watch too much fucking TV.
Mmm.. nothing says "refreshed" like working until 3am on a 'group' project final that no other member in your group has done any work for in the last 2-3 months.. and doing it all yourself and running it down to Kinkos at 7am for printing, binding and lamination on your dime. WIN!

Oh man, I hope I can get in on some of that RPGing come x-mas break. That'd be pretty sweet. Right now I have ZERO working credit card type devices, so this weekend I had planned on playing some free trial version of WoW (just to see if I'd still like it) but you even need a CC for the 10 day trial. They I ripped open and installed shitty "Collector's Edition" of City of Villians I got free a few months back when I purchased another game, and of course, need a CC to even play the 1st 30 days for free. Knew that was gonna happen, but I STILL gave it the 'ol 1-2. So instead I played some more Final Fantasy 5 Advance (its fun but fuuuuck these games are pretty long. Sez I've played around 13 hours so far.)

Watched "An Inconvient Truth" tonight - it was pretty cool. I've been reading that "Red Mars" book, so I'm getting into all that terraforming shit, so I dunno, that led to Al Gore's movie, heh. Now watching BBC's new "Robin Hood" tv show. It's alright - it airs at 7pm in EngLand, so its kinda "family-style". So far no one's been killed. BOO. EDIT: OH SHNAP! I revise my first impressions of Robin Hood 2006 from "alright" to "friggin awershome!" It's gooood. Only a little thru the 1st episode though hehe. BUt it got totally awesome about 20 mins into it.

Yeah dude, I told ya Heroe's was the shit! I think you just missed another mega-marathon of the 1st 10 or whatever episodes on Sci Fi. Seems like they show a marathon of the show every other weekend. Tomorrow is the last new one for the x-mas break, so I betcha Sci-Fi's gonna have the 1st half of the season up one of these coming weekends. If not, you can always watch shows the way I do *wink* *wink*.

Shit, as I'm looking at SciFi's schedule for the next month, they've got the sweet Twilight Zone marathon new years eve-ish. I know where MY party's gonna be be!

Yeah, it's cool that you didn't get the Wii. I mean I want one, but fuck I'm a poor sumamabitch and I would waste it's whole social dimension playing those games by myself.

You're friggin IM story is too hilarious Jon. That shit happens ALL the time. At work I'm usually looking at the hollywood tabloidy websites, and when Britney's grody poon was all over I kept getting almost busted by the lady who sits behind me. Buy that cock sucker a hockey bobble-head or something.
I rented Lost disc 1 a while ago but I thought it was kinda disappointing... the first two episodes on the disc were good, but I thought the third and fourth took an abrupt downturn. Mainly I didn't like the characters, they were too cartoonish.

Hey, let's play Savage Worlds again over Xmas break. It'd be fun to finish Vault of the Iron God, and then perhaps have more adventures featuring the GM stylings of A. Hessels!

I'd love to play Battlestations too. Your experience at GenCon has rekindled my interest. I'll dig my copy out of storage and start plowing through the rules again.
Hot Damn!

- Okay, so Rudy was right, Heroes is an AWESOME show! I d/ld 2 episodes for the iza pza (iPod) and it rawks! I wanna watch all the shows now, but don't wanna be a sukka and buy them for the iPod, and then have to buy them on DVD too! What is a guy to do?!?!

Also, Ryan is poised to make me look a fool cause I also bought Lost episodes one and two. So when I freak out about how good that show is too, Ryan will know he was the king of TV show knowledge.

- I have the Savage Worlds book now, and it is awesome! I also d/ld the AD&D 1rst ed conversion, which is radicool, as well as the 81 page Star Wars conversion! What a fun game! I am also listening to an interview with Sean Fannon (who is evidently doing a new world book for SW) on a Savage Worlds Podcast in my car. What a goof! He has some really neat ideas, but man, sometimes his self-marketing just gets a little but old. He does have an interesting idea with Project 77 though, let's see what happens with that. And I say interesting because, I shit you not, this was my video game design class final at UCI in 2001. Therfore, I rule, Sean bites, and I really should be reagarded more highly.

- I coulda had a Wii today at Target. I was there buying some baby stuff when it opened, I was already up for a few hours before 8am (but not because of Wylie, because Cleo brought a live bird into the house and started playing with it under the bed, which was a nice way to wake up. It lived.). So I grabbed the cart and customarily strolled past the electronics department where there was a line of about 10 people setting up. I asked, they told, and long story short I coulda had a Wii. Then I thought "when would I ever play it?", and walked on both frustrated and satisfied. I'm saving my nickels for Dreamcast II: Electric Boogaloo.

- I bet Benji Winter is pissed about El Somb going down in flames. My theory is that the owner of the business' across the street is looking to sell his buildings and wanted to say "Ocean views", so he razed the intervening building, and BAM! Ocean view!

- When I use the word "raze", it makes me want to play Mighty Empires again, no matter how broken the siege rules are.
Holy shit! El Sombrero was there for what, 35 years? That place was really one of the few remaining pieces of ole M.B. What a bummer. I bet it was burned down by somebody who wants to put up a mediterranean mansion there. Maybe they will respect the place by making their slaves wear a sombrero when they horsewhip them in the front courtyard.

Zero-G Jenga, hahahaa! Nice picture. Basically what happened was that all these new people are in the department. A lot of them used to do QA at Electronic Arts right before this job, and the result is that they look like a bunch of thugs instead of people working at a business. Like there's a real stereotypical white rapper guy and an intense looking dude who talks about karate a lot. Whatever, it's a reasonably casual building and QA is sorta known for relaxed standards in things like clothing and hygiene. Anyway, this one guy I work with wears a Sharks jersey every single goddamn day. He's also sorta weird-looking, he's not a a bad guy at all but at first he looks sorta weird plus he's a sorta small guy swallowed up in this mammoth jersey so you're weirded out. And the first day he was there I got things off to a rocky start because a friend of mine and I were IMing back and forth kinda talking smack about this guy. Not anything really bad, or even personal to this guy really, more just that we were bored than anything else -- things like "we're really scraping the bottom of the barrel these days" (which sort of applied to everybody who'd been coming in lately) and "this guy looks like he'd nail your skin onto his wall" (well, that's a little personal). So har, har, let's joke about the new guy who is just starting and doesn't know anybody yet. Yay us.

Anyway I am always doing about 20 things at a time so that was one of many windows open. So when this guy came by and I switched to a word document to show him something, I realized in horror that bringing up the document also made the IM chat window partially visible, although still semi-concealed behind the word window. (In Warmachine terms it would have a +2 defense bonus due to an intervening window.) So I tried to move the word doc over the IM window but instead I clicked the IM window, bringing it to the front. Then I tried to close the chat window and instead I double-clicked on the bar and maximized it. This dude was just sort of standing there staring at my monitor. So after that I felt like a really great human being.

Anyway, whatever. I felt bad so I was really nice after that and I think things are cool. Maybe. So at our team meeting our boss asks who all would be interested in a secret Santa and I'm up for it, why not. I was sort of looking forward to either buying something scandalous for one of the people in the department I know, or getting to know one of the other dudes. Instead I pull this same fucking Sharks jersey guy that I've been working with all this time. Great. Not only that but the sheet that we had to fill out to say some of our preferences, the one he filled out is totally unhelpful. What are his interests? "Hockey." Gee, that's a surprise, thanks. What kind of food do you like? "Free food." OK. What about music, does he like music? Oh yeah, he filled out that he likes "Rock." Thanks fucko. I think I'll just put "Rock" "Hockey" and "Free Food" into Google and buy the first thing that pops up.

Whatever you do, don't give your co-workers gift certificates to El Sombrero #1 in downtown Manhattan Beach...

it burned-the-fuck down!

Yeah, apperently on Tuesday morning about 4 am a fire that allegedly started at the restuarant took down almost the entire block where El Som used to stand. It took out Old Venice (the restaurant next door) and some clothing shop. We'll see if they rebuild. I went by there and the entire structure was totally gutted.
Give yer co-workers Space Jenga, a game I invented the other day. It's just like playing Jenga, but in Zero-G(enga). Since we can't make zero-g riight now, I invented a tube of water where the jenga blocks are. Pretty close to zero-g.

Back on the Internets at last

For the last week we've been in the process of moving and I've had no internet. What a brutal week. Who would've known that in that one small apartment we would've had over 50 boxes of junk (many of which are still parked in the living room). The place is close enough to the old place that we were able to just walk all the furniture there, but moving is never fun no matter what.

Still, it's done. Thanks again to Enron and Eyeball for the help. And the new place is a HUGE improvement over the old place... cleaner, bigger, nicer, generally better.

The craziest night was on Wednesday when we moved stuff continuously for 4 hours, I mean I was constantly in motion. I was wiped the next day but also noticeably toned. The upside was that I got to beat the shit out of a cabinet with a claw hammer to destroy it, that was fun.

They have finally gotten smart and converted me to permanent at work, so that's good... substantial raise plus no longer having to pay for my own benefits = huge raise. I've signed the paperwork and have to go to HR training and shit on Monday. After all this bullshit though I can't shake the feeling that it's gonna fall through somehow. My current theory is that it's gonna be like in Goodfellas, when Joe Pesci thinks he's finally going to get made, but instead they lead him into an empty room and shoot him in the back of the head.

Aeryk... you'll be happy to know that I've finally picked up a WoW deck. Huzzah! You may now address me as Elendril, Night Elf Hunter! I have an ancient bone bow and two tigers named Fury. To complete the WoW experience I vote that we play that mining sound on endless loop in the background, and boast to each other about our level 60 characters that are "in the card box I left at home." /spit

Actually I see the first Raid Deck (Onyxia) is coming out pretty soon. That's a cool idea. It's a preset 110-card deck that one player controls; the other players each control a hero and cooperate to take down the dragon. Neato.

I have a bunch of rambling to do about the Secret Santa we are doing at work but I have rambled enough, so I'll save it for another time! Sneak preview: Secret Santa can be dumb.

Oi! Dat's mi leg!

Okay, I will be in the fine land of LaLa for Xmas. I will get down there Friday the 22nd and returning on Wednesday the 27th. Sweet. Elzar I would be game for some hanging out time. I will probably have some time. We need to rock out ASL or Bonaparte at Degoba.

That is kewl that they are using Kopitar in the images there. He is sup4r sweet. I have been able to watch a couple of Kings games and I have been impressed with his skillz. That boy should have a bright future ahead of him. Lets hope the kings dont muss it up with him.

I have been busting out the Belgium Brewing (Fat Tire brewery) and Winter Hook. Good stuff. Love the seasonal brews.

Rude: That is a awesome Mr T picture. Mr. T and his antithesis. I wanted to see Coffee and Cigs, but it filled up befiore I could get tickets at the film festival a couple festivals ago. I did see the Gza, Rza, Murray scene though. Was pretty cool.

FYI...

...my previous post was showing some tagging going on in LA that uses Anze Kopitar from the LA Kings as it's subject, a la OBEY/Andre has a posse. It is radicool!

- Wow, cracked has gone from a Mad magazine ripoffs targeted at kids to an online satire site that is clearly targetted at early 20 somethings and uses swear words. I remember how scandalous it was seeing little, teeny, tiny boobies in the margin art by Sergio Aragones. How times have changed.

- Winter brews are out in stores now, I am enjoying a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale as I type. My favorite is Ole Fezziwig by Sam Adams. Try it! Delicious!

- Xmas will be in MB for me this year, no travel at all (except for a visit to my dads on xmas day)! So that means if any of you out of town mooks wanna get together, we gotta do it!
Remember Cracked magazine? I know it was lame, but I always liked it more than Mad for some reason. Anyways, this is funny, the 7 lamest fight scenes. Pretty funny. Why don't you cawksukurs post!?!? click you

I had a super-hero movie craze this weekend, so finally got to see all the recent movies I'd missed in the theater.

Superman Returns: I thought it was good. Great FX. While I'm watching it, I really had the sense that we're getting to the point with special fx that you really CAN'T tell that it's not real. Then I think it'll come down to how you setup the scenes and act em out etc. There was a really rad scene in the beginning where he's trying to save a plane, and it looked great. Um, I just really don't care for the Superman character. So lame. At least on Smallville he doesn't know all his powers, and there's still some sense of purpose to it all (haven't watched that show in a couple of years though.) Like I'm watching Kent pretend to work at the Daily Planet and I'm thinking "How many people are getting killed n shit right now while he's acting all pussy-whipped over stupid Lois?" Jesus dude, she's COOL but you're SUPERMAN, you can have ANY chick in the world.

X3: So after watching Superman, I watched the last X-Men cause I'd missed it. It's weird, the effects weren't as good. Couple of times you can totally see the fuzzyness of the effects and that kinda killed it for me. What I don't like about the X-Men universe (at least in the films, don't know the books) is that there are MILLIONS of fucking mutants. Mutants protesting in the streets n shit. So cheesy to me. And Wolverine is such a little bitch in this one. "I love you Ant-Man, please be safe!" Yeah, whatever dude. It had it's ok moments, but honestly, I think that whole trilogy is just kinda booty. I just don't like the setting.

And then finally, I just finished Fantastic Four. Kinda some cheapy SFX in it too. Not horrible, but Superman definately had the best of the bunch. FF was ok. I liked all the actors OK, but really, not a whole lot seemed to happen in this one. Yeah, I know, they have to do the origin story in the 1st one, but that was really it. They get powers, Doom gets evil, they have a super short fight, and that was the whole flick!

In conclusion, I think they just need to do some Marvel Universe movies (but you're not superman!? Batman is cool, he don't need a DC Universe movie.) It'd be cool to see Spidey, with SOME of the X-Men and the FF fight some of the REAL bad guys.

I had also watched "Coffee and Cigarettes" this weekend. Some of the segments were kinda good, some were absolutely horrible. Meh, it's artsy, so I wasn't really dissapointed or nothing. The Rza, Gza, Bill Murray scene was surprisingly funny. "Bill Groundhog-Day, Ghostbustin'-ass Murray!"

Jesus, I also watched Lost in Translation. I liked it. Way too many movies this weekend, huh!? I just don't have no games to play, still worked on music, but there's a lot of hours in the day! Went to a used bookstore kinda near Eric's house (next to where Big Wok is now) and picked up a few books. The 2nd book of Neil Stephenson's after Quicksilver (got the hardcover for 8 bucks, and actually scored the hardcover for the 3rd book at a Barnes n Noballs the other day for 7 bucks - kinda beatup copy in the discount piles.) And got "Puppet Masters" by Heinlein (never read it) and that book called "Red Mars" that I had wanted to read in highschool and never got around to it.

Well, that's my entry for the year! See ya guys in '07 and keep on juggling!

PS By the way, some of those superhero movies took me like 4 hours to finish, cuz I kept pausing em to look up the characters on wikipedia! There's like insane amounts of info on every fucking stupid superhero comic character on there, giving you their whole fucking life stories, alternate realities, crossovers, etc etc. It gets addicting! There'd be some bullshit shmuck side-villian in X3 and I'd look it up, and go off on weird tangents about Secret Wars 2 n shit! FUN!

Why Enron, why!? Everytime I check the page to see if someone has posted, all I see is The T staring at me all naughty-like! STOP THAT MISTOR T!

These guys obviously are happy with Sun's service. They posted this on a temp server while their main one was down.

Happy gluttony day.

Never have I washed so many dishes. All day long while I was cooking, then a billion after dinner and then more after dessert. Dishwasher would have been nice. Brutalitarian. Soo much food. I dont want to work tomorrow. I think I will sleep for the first couple hours.

Hope you all had your fillings today.

D>M>
So! Much! Food!

Hope everyone had/is-having a great and happy To'oh-faggot Day! Football has been good, the food was plentiful and couch-coma inducing. I made a pan of roasted winter veggies, mashed sweet potatoes and some herb-stuffed bird which three of us gleefully stuffed our pie-holes with. Michelle is still not ready to get back in the fight, unfortunately. Bonus for having a household of half-sick denizens? No other family came over today.. so that means no screaming fights AND lots of yum leftovers. Win, all around!

Wheee!
William S. Burroughs, Rise From Your Grave

Nice po-eem Rude! How is the new job going btw? I was thinking that from now on you should be called Officer Steve, what do you think? And you should totally pick up a Wii. A lot of people at the office have them (tons of gamers) and they're all really excited about it. The new Zelda and lots of the upcoming games look really sweet. Plus the ability to download and play N64 classics I missed the boat on (Mario 64, Ocarina of Time) sounds good. I think I'll pick one up after Xmas, although an Xbox 360 is starting to look pretty good too.

Glad you liked the Savage Worlds game Aeryk. I enjoyed running it too although I felt a bit stiff. It's a great system. There is quite a bit of depth to the combat that we never got to or needed because of that fact that you guys were new, and also that you steamrolled most opposition. I keep forgetting that you really need some Wild Card opponents in the fights. Extras go down like nothin' in that game.

Happy Turkey Day everyone! Unless you like Tofurkey. In which case of course Happy To'oh-faggot Day!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks for the wild turkey and
the passenger pigeons, destined

Thanks for a continent to despoil

Uggg...

OMG. If I had evAr thought cocaine was a good idea, which I have not, this video will put any doubts to rest. Nasty chemicals to make that crap. Not quite as bad as Meth, but still gross. Cocaine goodiness.

In other news: I'm drunk. Two beers on an empty stomach while I was cooking T-Day goodies. Doh!

D>M>
I think in a check or 2 I'm totally getting a Wii. It just looks like SO much fun. And I don't think I've EVER had a console close to it's actual release (maybe the Genesis.) So yeah. I'll be playing Wii Sports in my room by myself in about a month, maybe! WHHOAAA!
Teh Plague is right!

Man, today is the first day since two Saturdays ago that someone in the Nikisch family isn't on the borderline of puking and/or being bed ridden. I'm hoping that the in-laws aren't silently being worked-over by this virus only to be hammered just in time for Thanksgiving day tomorrow. That would be unfortunate.

Monday, November 20, 2006

yeah this weekend should be sweet. I'll be recovered 105% by then. Nah, I've been seeing Con-talk for awhile now, and even though I know I've asked you a million times "so what weekend is it, uh duuur?" I just kept on forgetting. It's fine - I was filthy sick, so I guess it's better I didn't know what I was missin. I still wish I hadn't been sick. :( Kublacon! slashcry
Teh Plague on Rudy's House

I thought you read the blog and saw that GenCon was coming and were responding to the posts by notifying that you were sick! Sorry man! I was bummed because there were an odd number of us there and I was really counting on you to show up to play some ASL while the other 4 jokers played Warmachine! Not to mention you totally would have pulled for some Tichu playin', so I was hoping you were coming, but thought you were bowing out when you posted you were sick.

If you are healed, we should at least try and get something going this weekend after friday, I will be in SD for Firewater and Plague Blanket Boomstick Day until Friday, probably evening.

Do it!
well fucking shit, I'm glad I was mostly bed-ridden this weekend, or I might be kinda bummed that no one called to remind me about the con. :( I totally forgot what weekend it was. Well, I was at my worst on Saturday and pretty bad Sunday, so i guess I prolly wouldn't of gone anyhow. Today, with the help of mucho-doses of dayquil I was Ok at work - when it starts running out, start feeling kinda shitty again, but I think the worst has passed. Ah man. :(
Con Goodness

jr0n & Elzar: I could not be happier. That is sweet. Dave Defeat is viral.

Oh my lord am I tired today. Bigus Terdus. I didn't get to sleep until 11:30 last night. After the con ended at 4:00, I got sucked into having a drink at Patrick Malloy's with my sister on a totally empty stomach and lord knows how many caffeinated mints. Then I sat in the airport in a half delusional state until my flight left. I Didn't sleep 'til I got home.

By the Numbers...

Games Played (Excluding Shocker Roulette): 18
Hours spent on the final Warmachine game (Eight full rounds): 4.0
Number of times Savage World has ever been played by Aaron according to Aaron: 1
Caffeinated Mints consumed: 90
Monsters energy drinks downed: 12
Beers consumed: 15
Money spent by Dave at 3rd Planet on Sunday eve: $180
Hours of attendance: 74.5
Total hours slept by eNron/Dave: 12.0
Fingers shocks delivered (roughly): 20
Toes shocked: 1
Number of other appendage and bodily protrusion types suggested for shocking: 3
Trips to KKKarl's: 2
People Hot Karl'd: 0 (Unconfirmed)
Bowls of 'Teriyaki' Chikin™ nearly thrown up: 2
Degrees of flexibility of Steamed 'Fried' Eggrolls: 160°

Sup4r successful con. Lots of games, lots of fun and nearly no emo, aside from Dave incessant Quote Friction (Doesn't count since it is funny). I guess he was trained early on by the master of repetition himself, Jopa. It is a real bummer sickness struck at ranks. Pump, O rugs, and Rude all were missed.

I also did really enjoy RPGing as well.

Congrats Ja -eL. I will change your avatar when I have time. I am sure I can find something suitably representative.

"We Can't stop, It's too dangerous! We need to slow down!" - Major Asshole or Dave... Whatever.
Savage Worlds

I am all hot to trot about this system right now. Haven't played an RPG in some 2 odd years until this weekend, but I am thinking ALOT about it right now! I am going to order a copy from ThoughtHammer soon enough, and have downloaded the 3.5 to SW conversion stuff as well as a bunch of other crap from Dragon's Landing (I think) and totally want to play/run a D&D/Savage Worlds conversion!

I mean, playing 50 Fathoms was fun, but I think the system really shines when played with people you like and are familiar with. Not to take anything away from Laurie, but she was kind of a stick in the mud, and I think SW is much more about thematics, mild wrecklessnes, and fun. Thatwhich our group excels at!

I had a blast playing it, and until something else even better comes along, it seems like the system for me in the future! CoC and WFRP will forever hold a place in my heart, but SW just seems playable and easy enough! Do it!

Notes:
- I pre-ordered Battlelore w/ Hill Giant from the place you get all your Warmachine mini's for $57.00, so I am happy about that.

- In some strange twist of the Stockholm Syndrome, I WANT to hear Dave say "We can't stop, it's too dangerous! We have to slow down first!" and "BENDER is great! Bender is GREAT! Bender IS Great!"

- Thoughthammer is also apparently going to start carrying the mega-bundle for the Battlestations minis for something like $37, so hooray for me for overcoming my desire for an ill advised con purchase.

- I had no ill advised con purchases to lament afterward, which is nice. Except for the Brown Chicken Bowl.

- Sorry the plague had to strike Rudy, Denis and Art's family (Ryan is apparently ill as well) so none of you could make it, it was a good con. Not a great con, because to be a great con from this day forward, Tichu must be played. Still, a good con ;).
I hope you guys are happy, I've had "You're the best... around!" stuck in my head all morning.

Congratulations on the buy-in Ja-el, sounds like a big move for you.

Thanks. The way I figure it, even though I've only been in the manufacturing business for only 2 years, this company has potential. And since currently it is losing money I can get discounted shares. To turnaround the company into profitability I plan to reorganize the management and the sales dept which I feel is the main problem.

There are two bread and butter customers that comprises around 80-90% of our revenue and they have been buying from us for 5-6 years. One of the thing is that after analysis of the costing we are underquoting on every product we are selling. So it's not the lack of business, and by raising the price our company can be profitable. Of course the risk is if you raise prices your customer may buy from somewhere else. But in this case, I think it's an undercost issue rather than a competiveness issue. So basically, it's artificial.

Of course, there are other issues in every department which attributes to the inefficiency, but is salvagable as long as we start making a little positive cashflow.

The product itself is common. Transformers has been around since they invented electronics and discovered magnetism. But despite competition, there are still a lot of customers especially in the US where everyone is looking to outsource for lower labor costs. I also feel we can can expand our engineering department to offer developement services instead of just focusing on cheap labor assembly. The main product lines are in transformers, coils, and inductors (ferrite based) and the factory has 8 vertical injector machines, 1 wave solder, varnish oven, and some other capital equipment. There are a total of around 400 employees at the moment.

EDIT: Aron... change my avatar! This one makes me look I have some skin rash or disease.
Congrats, man! Hope that works out for you.

I'm trying to figure out my class schedule for Spring right now, was stuck for a good while on a class day code of "U".. come to find out, I guess they're offering Sunday classes now. Good for me as far as ease of schedule goes, I guess. But it does screw with weekend family trips somewhat. I'm trying to figure out a way to have Sunday-Wednesday classes, leaving Thursday-Saturday open. That would be a good trade off, I think. Trying to figure out if I should try taking 19 credit hours this semester (three online classes for 7 credits), or if that's a little too much, and back that down to 16. I dunno. I guess it just depends on how much busy work is involved.

It just feels nice to be on the home stretch with graduation coming next year.

Wish I could have gotten down to LA this weekend, but with Michelle going down to Teh Virus, it just wasn't meant to be.
Guys, I sent an offer to buy in 25% stake in my uncles company. Wish me luck. I hope you guys can help me out in the future if you know anyone that needs Transformers/Magnetics, and any assembly type product.

A whole LONG shitty week of being on the verge of getting really sick - and right now it's starting to actually feel a little worse. I think I *might* have picked up a lingering of the Hess family virus when I was over there playing Guitar Hero last week, but once I got to work on tuesday I was surrounded by sick-as-all-hell people with their own brands of cold/flu. Add in the fact that I watched the 2 seasons of Carnivale this week (nice show! i like!) and I got little to no sleep etc etc etc. TONIGHT, I plan on taking some "PM" medicine along with my daily Airborne/Emergen-C cocktails and I hope to sleeeeep all thru fucking tomorrow. I fucking detest being sick. :)
The House of Nikisch is being attacked viciously by an intestinal virus of some kind. Michelle was up all last night, and Haylee the two nights prior. Three nights in a row with no sleep is fun! I'm still feeling a little bit puny from my go-around, but I'm well on my way on the road to recovery as I haven't puked for 4 days now. Awesome.

So, now I get to try and keep them seperated for a day or two so we don't keep kicking the virus back and forth.

Re PS3: Can't believe people are willing to pay that kind of jack for a game console. That's absolutely rediculous. If you're willing to pay over $2000 for a game console, just get yourself a top of the line gaming PC platform and hook it into your TV, FFS. Then you can have everything the PC offers plus whatever games the console can handle.

It's enough to make you want to stand in line for a few hours to make a tidy $2,000 per unit profit, isn't it?

Convention Blog Doldrums

Pretty quiet around here, eh?

Ryan? Art? Anyone there?

Let's pass time by laughing at idiots. At least this auction isn't sketchy.

Best part of being a parent: Just about everything. So cool to see the world through your child's eyes as they learn, laugh and enjoy their innocence.

Worst part of being a parent: Being sick, and having to take care of your sick child who lays next to you all night long, barfing on you, your bedding and everything else within firing distance every hour, on the hour, for an entire night of zero sleep.

Man, that's rough on the ole constitution.

Enron, you think they might be more offended at being called Nazi bankers, or suffering through scroll back buffers of FUCKERS FUCKERS FUCKER FUCKITY FUCK FUCKEROO!

Hehe..
Screw Time Warner and Tivo

So, the smarties at Time Warner thought it would be a good idea to drastically change their cable lineups and group like channels together, which is supposed to be an improvement over everyone having their favorite channels memorized, and instead we have to realearn all the channels and their locations. F corporate policy makers who need to make up worthless projects to justify their jobs.

Oh, the best part of this crap is that TiVo, has not corrected their lineups, which means, no recording of anything because EVERY SINGLE CHANNEL HAS CHANGED. Apparently some people have been dealing with this for 3 weeks now, and I am pissed and the lineup occured for me today.

Recent events, and the total lack of customer service, has made me re-think my loyalty to TiVo. I am not so sure that I would recommend it over the free DVR service many cable companies offer anymore. So sad that a nice counter-hacker-culture company has blown it so bad.

Musings

Well Elzar, thank for the tourette, twas funny.

On the otherhand, I am starting to worry about viewing the theactionteam from work computers. I think it is only a matter of time before I get strung up for the content contained on the theactionteam site; After all, I do work for the Nazi bankers. Ugggg...

The Provost Fucks

Is a rad band I just made up. They toured with Shit Sandwich and Anal Cunt back in '86, I was there, and I was motherfucking, cocksucking punk about it. Shit man, sucking cock was punk as Police Truck fuck in '86.

SHIT SHIT SHIT, mother-ass, shit! I forgot I wanna play Bonaparte at Marengo too! Jesus H. R. R. Martin Christ! How can I forget this one! Fuck!

A few other, that may or may not be worth mentioning for a play are as follows:

- For Sale (will take 15 minutes)
- No Thanks! (will take 10 minutes)
- Ra. MAYBE, but given the option between Ra and ASL...
- Hive? Not against jr0n anyway...
I don't even know what you guys are talking about

Aaron, Jon - you guys still up for a little dinner/drinks with Andrew? Wednesday night, he's heading out here and we'd love to have you guys (with your other halves too if they want of course) out to meet. If you can't that's cool too - I know it's short notice. Anyway, I'll ring later on that too, just wanted to get in touch as soon as I could.

Gen Con - looking forward to it - except for the fact that 'bitch bitch bitch' (if you know what I mean) is going be looking for us there - doh, sorry. It's not my fault - but Enron and Jon, your secret living location is still safe. I think I am going to buy a lot of Privateer press (well, a lot for me...). Sounds like maybe I'll be doing painting as I've realised that Warmachine is really the game for me at the mo. Am really excited at the idea of doing some roleplay - Jon you're my hero for designing a campaign - I can't wait!

It'll be good to see all of you guys. Guitar hero - makes no difference to me - I totally suck at that sort of game and will simply enjoy watching others play, or sleeping.
Then fuck Caylus and its goddamn provost

Fuck it right in the ear. Hey, you don't want to sell it, do you? :) $$cashmoney$$

I'm trying to finish Guitar Hero Uno before I move on to Dos. It is an overwhelming challenge though. The best I can do on Cowboys From Hell and Bark At The Moon are about 55 and 63%, respectively.

Elzar

Don't do it man. We all know what video games do to the cons. Boo-urns. If you do, Dave and I will eat your guitar because we are Gwar. Plus, if I tore your arms and legs off, you would look like a snowman.

Battlestations sounds pretty cool. But if it looks stupid, jr0n will beat you. Well that is what he told me this weekend. I would really like to bust out some ASL and Twilight. Also looking forward to some RPG action in the form of Vault of the Iron Stains. Sweet. And as always, looking for some good old Warmachine. Looks like both jr0n and I are in for some Dave Defeat jack on jack off combat fuck.

Camturducken: A boneless chicken stuffed in a boneless duck stuffed in a boneless turkey which is in turned stuffed in a camals ass. Dee-lish.

D>M>
GAYlus

Meh. I'm kinda tired of that game. It takes way too long for what it is. And on the upside, many on the Geek have likened it to Puerto Rico, so there you go. I will bring it, but I'm not really feelin' the Caylus love.

Battlestations boasts a 4 hour, single night, timeframe. However, I am certain there will be some rules looking up/crucifying Eric because he messed up a rule, throughout the session. I concur, it does look like a lot of fun.
AwYeah GenCon

Fired up! Yeehaw! Hey Aeryk, do you still like Caylus? I'd like to get in a game of that if possible. Agreed on Battlestations. It looks like a LOT of fun. The only downside is that I think it takes like eight hours to play, doesn't it?

I vote against Guitar Hero II, but I'm just being a selfish bastard since my only gaming time will be Friday night, Saturday, and the dregs of Sunday. You, Enron and Dave will have the most time to fill up....

I'm basically just hoping to role-play and get in a Warmachine game against li'l David. If I do those two things I'll be satisfied with this con.
GenCon: T-Minus 3...

- jr0n, I am in for some Vault of Iron Maidens! Huzzar!

- I am reading the rules for Battlestations, the board/rpg game where you play crew on a spaceship that have to go on missions that range from ship to ship combat, to boarding actions, to derelict space ship exploration, and more! Looks fun, if you can get beyond the pseudo-Indy feel of the components and art. I think there is a good game that we will all enjoy there.

- My games that I want to play is narrowing before the con, as I always over estimate the time we will have to play, I am aiming low, and hoping to hit high! The list:

- ASL
- Battlestations
- Tichu
- Command and Colors: ANcients
- Twilight Struggle
- Vault of the Iron Maidens
- WoW Card Game w/ Denis

- Rudy is totally my practice partner/Guitar Hero Muse. After I cranked the shit out of those three ridiculous songs, the "hidden song" of the set was YYZ by Rush, which was kind of a joke. Then the next batch, including Freebird, were fairly easy. So, maybe they reversed the last two batches of songs. Dunno. Time for expert!

- The duel guitar mode is AWESOME!

- Shall I ruin GenCon and bring it along?
I just invented a new drink tonight. You take half a cup of lukewarm instant-coffee, two Equals, and fill the rest of the mug with lukewarm/half-flat Diet Shasta. Yeah, very yummy. At first I'd take a sip of the coffee, then chase it with the diet shasta, and WOW - it tasted like a Coke float! Doesn't quite taste like a Coke float when you actually pour the shasta in the mug, but you get the general idear.

Rad name for it! Can't wait to check it out - I'm definately in! Have you been writing stories n stuff also lately?

Many hours of crazy two-player Guitar Hero 2 action on the Hess household today. Was very fun. And I think I might be Eric's GH Muse, cuz with my encouragement, he was able to friggin BEAT 3 uber hard songs that had been messing him up. When I left his house my back and arms were all sore - good workout Guitar Hero!
Four Hours of Thrilling Adventure! maybe

I think I've mentioned this before, but it's official. I've written the adventure I want to run at GenCon and even given it a snazzy title: "Vault of the Iron God."

So, if you guys will play it, I'll run it!

This is a pretty archetypal fantasy dungeon crawl. I'll be using the Savage Worlds system. There's a "Test Drive" version of the rules right here. (Just click on "Test Drive Rules 4.0." It gives a good overview of the system and character creation. We can officially make characters at the con. We'll pretty much need all the classics: a fighty type, a magic type, a sneaky type, and possibly a Spell Filcher.

Me and Jennifer Love Hewitt sharing a tender moment in last night's Ghost Whisper.
If Art found that, kudos, because that was some of the funniest shit I have seen in a while!

Especially where he rolls and licks the joint, all the while maintaining a smile.
Funny, it somehow seems appropriate that I'm posting as Eric tonight.. LOL.. (O-rugs here). Found this clip and thought it was hilarious:

hey jon, is this you!?
alienschizoid.spaces.live.com/
I was googling you to see if you put out anymore zombie books or whatever, and seen this. I dunno!

Other weird shit I've learned about you in the last 8 or so minutes, that isnt the title to that zombie anthology:

*Jon Petersen, raised by missionary parents in Tokyo, Japan, has been dedicated to reaching cities most of his adult life.

Jon Petersen, 56, is a computer programmer who holds an M.S. in mathematics from Stanford University.

*Lifelong Los Gatos resident Jon M. Petersen died June 2 at the age of 37.

:(

EDIT: PWNAN TEH LOLBARIAN!!1!!1!1!!!!1 Saw that on a Conan MMO forum and really liked it.
Second Opinion: I concur with Art's prognosis!

We rocked out at Guitar Hero 1 at work last week. Afterwards one of the weird new guys told me that I should invite him along next time because he's really good at it. He's beat it on Expert, and also his girlfriend can beat it on Expert, but she prefers to play it at Hard. I told him I was doing pretty well for myself at Expert but had been stuck at "Crossroads" (the last song in the 2nd to last set) for a long time.

The next day I see him and he says "Oh, yeah, I decided to play Guitar Hero last night after we talked about it. I played Crossroads on Expert. First try, four stars."

So that night I went home and played the shit out of that song. That stupid fucking song. The first time I got 95% of the way into it and crapped out. I hate that stupid part at the time. The second time I did crappy. I always well the first time but fail on subsequent attempts, with that song. So then I rocked out to "More Than A Feeling," came back to Crossroads, and then something changed halfway into the song. Something changed? Everything changed. I suddenly knew down in my bones that I was gonna beat that motherfucker that try. And I did. I did, Aeryk. Yes, I moved past the Crossroads I had been stuck at for so long. I beat that motherfucker and then I punched it in the pants-cock.

Then I tried Cowboys From Hell on Expert and said "What the fucking fuck? This fuck is impossible." So I stopped and went to bed. I should have stopped the story last paragraph but I still think it was good.
The Doctor prescribes: Throwing in the original GH and rocking out to "More Than a Feeling" for a minimum of three full practice sessions to get your spirits back up.
Living End (of Eric)

Institutionalized is ridiculous, but this is hard too. At least for me, but then again, I did:

1) Go to El Camino
2) Play in Misguided Youth
3) NOT play in The Holophrastics

Fcuk me. This is hard. I don't even want to try it again! :(
Wow. I agree.. that doesn't look like much fun. Yikes.

In new, news: I tested out of financial accounting. So that means no more 8am class for me the rest of this semester. ROCK! Woooo!!!1!

In other new, news: I was eating a bowl of cereal on the couch this morning and Haylee came over and gave me the full overhand chop to the balls with a vacuum cleaner attachment piece. I'm talking the $10,000 home video winner chop of the century. Spilled my cereal all over the place as I fell off the couch in total agony. Ugh. How do kids have such perfect crotch-radar? I swear, she's just learning how to toss and catch a ball, but if you let your guard down for 1 second, she's going to give you the 92mph fastball to the daddy-sack with deadly accuracy.

Bonus-track: Was at the store yesterday and Haylee pointed to this skinny dude standing in front, facing away from us, with really 'pretty' blond hair (to be fair, I thought it was a chick, too.. LOL).. and loudly proclaims.. "MOMMY!" Hahahaa.. oh man, that was funny.
awesome write up duder! but jesus h chris - dont look if u dont wanna be spoiled, but Suicidal's Institutionalized on Expert ***fuck me***. That doesnt even look fun.

Guitar Hero II

a play in 2 scenes

SCENE ONE

ERIC is pleased to have purchased Guitar Hero II from FRYS ELECTRONICS earlier in the day, and is playing the game for the first time.

ERIC: Hey! This is pretty fun! More of the same I suppose, but still, fun to play new songs! The hard level is not even all that hard, secretly I think I am the best Guitar Hero player of the Action Team, but I will never let any of them know, there is a delicate balance of power that must remain intact amongst the Action Team.

Time passes, and ERIC continues to play songs on the hard level

ERIC: Wow! I have completed 30 of the 40 songs possible on Hard level and I have only failed one time! Geez, I am starting to think that either I am too good at Guitar Hero, or this game is kinda lame cause it is too easy. Oh well, I think I will stop this session for now, and comeback and play the next block of songs later.

ERIC leaves the back room and attends to his duties as a father, husband, and generally nice guy.

PS2: Oh, this fucking piece of cocksucking shit thinks he is some kinda cocksucking Guitar Hero? Well, come next session, this cocksucker is going to show that fucking cocksucking cocksucker who is the real cocksucker round these parts....

SCENE TWO

ERIC enters backroom, confident that he will rock the socks off anything that the Guitar Hero and PS2 can throw at him.

ERIC: Alright, so this section of tracks contains and Anthrax tune, cool! I think I will save that one til last, and start with this song, that is apparently by The Living End. Hmmm, I hated that band, this song is going to suck.

THE LIVING END and PS2 proceed to kick the cocksucking shit out of ERIC so badly that he crumples in a smoldering heap of cocksuck at the altar of cunts, and fails the song 12% into it, the intro is the most ridiculous thing he as ever seen, it makes the expert Cemetary Gates seem easy.

ERIC: (in the most pathetic whimpering voice ever) Why? Why have you done this to me PS2? How is this possible? How can Guitar Hero II be so easy and then unimaginably hard? Why? How?

PS2: ...

EPILOGUE

ERIC has picked himself up off the cocksucking altar of cunts and dusted himself off, and discovered PRACTICE MODE in Guitar Hero II. PRACTICE MODE allows you to play certain parts, or all parts of a song all the way through without failing and offers the ability to slow the song down from slightly slowere to a crawl to practice. While this offers no solice to ERIC because it has not helped him with the insanely hard, intricate and cocksucking fast song by THE LIVING END, it offers him hope. Hope that when he somehow, somewhere completes THE LIVING END song, the next song, by REV HORTON HEAT, is perhaps less difficult.

UPDATE

ERIC has cheated and looked ahead, and The REV HORTON HEAT song is infact just as stupidly hard. ERIC seriously doubts he will be able to pass this block of songs on hard mode.
Hey guys! I don't know about you bunch of fuckin' pro-gay marriage, faggot Republigays, but I'm pleased as punch with the election results. I stayed up late (midnight! ooh!), watched Daily Show, did that whole thing.

Convention Time approaches! Or as we sometimes spell it now: Khunvhensheyyunnuneynnn Ttyyihhiehmmmemiilemmelimmeeeeeeee. It is our way. I'm looking forward to another weekend of trying to select a game and Dirty Sanchezes. Actually I think the proper plural of that is Dirty Sancheezi.

More good news yesterday. In addition to the good news out of the government vis a vis no longer having so many shitbags in office, we got the word that we are approved for our new place. Hooray! You might remember that I moved in with the ladyfriend at the start of October. That was into her 1-bedroom place while we waited out the lease on her place, but still got to avoid the plague of rats at my old place. However we immediately started looking and we just got this place that is somehow even CLOSER to Enron than before. Someday soon he will open his cupboard and we will jump out of it Trainspotting style. But until then we have a cute little 2-bedroom place with enough room for the two of to hide from each other when one is pissed. And plenty of storage space. I am pleased.

Enron-Myke, what's going on this weekend? I am pretty much a solo bachelor this Saturday-Sunday and would love to get together one/both of those days. Note that I just assume that you guys will want to hang out with me every moment of free time that I have. I'm basically egotistical like that.

Also one of you guys should update the game spreadsheet for Sunday's game. Aeryk? You haven't played any board games since your rousing game of Kahuna on 9/24? I hate to crack the whip but you guys will thank me in 20 years when we're almost 100, looking back on a lifetime of shared experiences.
Keep in mind that not only was I drunk last night, I was also bitter, and it was related to why I was drunk. <3

Anyways, set yer Tivo's to record next Monday's episode of the hit NBC show HEROES! Cuz I'ma be on it! Here's a screen cap from the preview - and they shot all kinds of closer shots than this crap, so maybe you'll get a chance to see my man-boobles up close!

Post Scrizzle: Nice fuckin drummin! I was always thinking they need to do a "Drum Hero" game. The bongo one was pretty fun on gamecube, but comeon - take a cue from Guitar Hero and make some cool drum set controller. OR with the Wii numchucks maybe have some sweet air drumming game. I think I saw on of the early Wii promo ads with a dooshbag pretending to play air drums. Oh, and there's already vids up of ppl playing 2-player GH2 and there looks like theres some cool surf kinda song that I cant WAIT to come play with you Eric! Lemme know when it's good to go and I will be there!
Convention Cup

So I was walking the whipper-snapper around Del Amo today and I came across some store called Special Memories, or some crap. They do trinket gifts and then engrave them, and I saw this sweet stainless steel tankard and thought what a cool thing to have for an ongoing Action Team Convention Tournament Trophy. We could name the cup, then whoever won the tournament that convention would get their name, the con name, and the year engraved. They would get the rights of the cup until the next con when they would have to bring it back for the next tourney!

Awesome!

One problem though, there is not a game that we could all agree on to have a tournament for I don't think. So, back to the drawing board I suppose.

I mean, I would LOVE for it to be an ASL cup, or even a Blood Bowl cup, but I digress....
Happy post: Best Funk Drummer Evah!

Dude has mad crazy drummage skills.
Actually, it wasn't a legalization, it was a decriminalization of possession of a small amount of pot. There's a HUGE difference between the two. And, I happen to agree with you about the legalization of drugs. If they legalized the production and sale of drugs, it would take the black market profit out of the process, improve overall safety and create a tax revenue stream to pay for rehab/education. Plus, it would take at least 60% of our prison population off the tax dole. Of course, tinfoil hat guy says.. why do you think the government WANTS to keep drugs in the black market? Their off-the-books activities make rediculous money playing that game. See: Afghanistan, world's largest producer of opium.

Anyway.

edit: I thought it was funny, Eric.

edit-edit: It is a bit weird to see little-kid-me talking about adult-speak topics. LOL.

Borat-edit: From what little I've seen of this 'bit', I don't find it convincing in the slightest, which kind of kills the gag for me. The dude looks like he's stuck somewhere between Jerry Seinfeld and Balki. I dunno.

Click-edit: I wanted to see this movie so badly.. and now I understand why it bombed in the box office. SO FUCKING BAD. Gah.

Marie-Antoinette (remix edit): On the flip side, I didn't really want to see this movie, went anyway, and wound up thinking it was very well done. It's definately only for someone who enjoys artsy character-study films, however. If you enjoyed Lost in Translation, then this movie may be for you.
Teh Votes Are In!

Dems were pretty big winners on the day, though the Governator is still in charge. Not surprisingley, and overwelmingly, many states from the midwest and south have banned same sex marriage, raised minimum wage, and disallowed medical marijuana! Shocking!

Alternative Fuel measure failed, which is nice, proves that if you got a lot of money for campaigning and can put huge, and numerous adds on TV that shows that (editorials) from all sorts of newspapers oppose this bill, and that taxpayers(which techinically includes oil producers) also oppose it, then it MUST be bad. The planet needs to learn to a) read between the lines, b) understand what EDITORIAL means, and c) immediately vote AGAINST anything and everything that included Big Oil as a supporter.
