what really happened on the d-day
maybe wait on the iphone jon and get one of these Zphones (ZUNE PHONE)

Thursday, January 11, 2007

Well, I can call people and hear them, but the Skelephone's mic is apparently kaput. So iPhone it is! To the future!

I think all you guys would dig this band The Briefs... their site has some cool free songs on it... check out "Poor & Weird," 'tis awesome.
Hmm, perhaps the Skelephone will rise again. I just plugged it into the wall and it seems to be accepting charge OK. If you notice an explosion from around the block you'll know it didn't work out so good.

Jesus, I am whooped. I've had some fun bouts of insomnia this week. I think my eyelids are actually down around my knees.

Enron/Myke, are either of you up for some gamin' this weekend? It's been almost a month for me! Either day is good. Oh, and the new Prime comes out on Wednesday the 17th. I definitely think we should make a day of it.

There's a very cool conversion guide for playing Savage Worlds using the Iron Kingdoms setting here. I have a couple of the sourcebooks now and I am jonesing to run a campaign there now.

Bulatz!

Yeah the iPhone is pretty sweet; however, being expensive and being poor dont mix. Plus it wont be available until June. Boo FCC approval. Who needs that noise. Remeber, Cingular only boys and girls. Maybe when my current contract is up with my current phone (in 21 months) and my iPod dies, Ill dive in.

Boo RIP S. Keliphone. She was a good ship that was built like a steakhouse but handled like a bistro.

jr0n: Did you try letting that bad boy dry out for several days and then trying it out? I had a Nextel at work that took three days to dry out after a swim in our plaza fountain. No problems since then.

You know Talisman was sweet for about an hour and a half and then... uggg! The ironic part is I would totally play it if it were busted out.

WoW: CCG. Not gonna happen like Magish: The gathering of money by WotC. Successful: Yes. Explosive: No.

The WoW CCG is pretty fun! I don't feel any particular lure to spend tons of money on it the way I did with other CCGs (esp. Magic, Doomtown) but it is good. I think part of what both makes it fun, and keeps me from buying a ton, is that it feels so familiar. It really is a lot like Magic. Or Redemption.

Actually I think you can pick which one to play based on whether you want to spend more time, or more money.

RIP S. Kelephone

Skelephone + washing machine = end of an era. Aeryk's cell phone ring tone will live on in our hearts. Or perhaps sometimes you can hear this haunting melody... down the alleys of San Francisco.

I hate cell phone shopping.
WoW: tcg

I was reading some reviews in BGG on this hot topic. Apparently some users feel this is the next thing since wow:tcg. It was funny that someone called the online version "cheap entertainment" compared to the card version which was a really funny statement since it's so true.

I kinda want to get into this because I have a feeling the next cons are going to be WoW cons in a way Magic:tcg could never envisioned. Imagine both the CCG and Open Board Game rooms dominated by Wow:TCG and Wow:TBG. I wonder if Blizzard will allow me to make their Pewter miniatures and thus make it A Con of Wows.

In fact I vote instead of Strategicon, we just rename it to Wowgicon.
I remember playing Talisman in Paul's kitchen.

Wow, rereleasing Talisman, huh? That was a fun game back in the day. I don't think I'd rebuy it but I definitely give it another shot sometime!

-- I picked up "The Art of Star Wars" (1979 edition) at a used bookstore in Berkeley. It's really cool. It has the original shooting script (with the extra scenes with Luke's buddies on Tatooine). The coolest part about it is all the old concept art and matte paintings that were done. Almost 30 years later and it is still pretty amazing.

-- I saw Pan's Labyrinth this weekend. Short summary: very interesting direction, very strong characters, some really cool creative fantasy shit, some crazy gore, two strong but divergent plots, with the more fantastic one not being served too well in the the last third of the movie, kind of unsatisfying ending. Not perfect but worth two hours of my time, I think. I really hope Guillermo del Toro directs Mountains of Madness like he's been talking about forever.

-- Also I rewatched Rushmore for probably the twentieth time this weekend. This is my favorite movie. It is perfect.
So, Who's Gonna Get It First?

For the first time in recent history, Games Workshop, or rather one of it's subsidiaries, has done something good and pure, benefiting the common gamer. They are SCHEDULED to re-release TALISMAN: THE MAGICAL QUEST GAME! I think they are smelling Euro/Runebound profit to be had, but I don't care, I have bigger things to worry about: Dare I support the Evil Empire and buy the newest version of the classic? Or do I hold firm to my opposition to GW, and spend my money on better things, like Combat Commander: Mediterranean, or Taco Bell tacos?

Time will tell.
