Santa Claus ain't the only one coming on Christmas!

I just started reading Arthur C. Clarke's 2001. So far, very very good. This particular edition has a recent forward by ACC that includes a little tidbit about the passing of Kubrick. Also, he goes into detail about how he and Kubrick came up with the idea and some of the process involved with its creation. Interesting read. Only 2 chapters in, but I think I'm going to like it.
If you still have Return to Castle Wolfenstein (yeah j0n- still got yers), a new MOD just came out for it called The Wild-West. Although it could use some work (the voice acting- ugh), its still pretty cool (and free.)
Also, just watched an *okay* documentary about Las Vegas that I rented from the library. At times the quality skirted the realm of Burger Town, but then they showed old black-and-white photos of dead mobsters, and it all worked out. Also, it had a pretty good section on uber-creepy Howard Hughes... damn Mormans got him!
Good Shows/Bad Shows:
Firefly: Good show.
Boomtown: Bad show (that had potential.)

Gotta catch em all
Manhattan Beach just gets weirder. I walked by a beauty store with a sign that said
Bio-ionic
Capture the power of ions!
Paatty tyme!

E-pinions is an awesome site. I wish more people would put stuff on there. Some people are dolts but occassionally you can find some genuine articles from people who are knowledgable. It's one of the sites I used to purchase my mountain bike (great great articles on how to buy Mountain bikes) and also my new Takamine guitar. Although for less branded items, articles and reviews are hard to find. It is hard to concieve to collect information in any scrutinizing detail, just because of the sheer number of products in the world. You just can't rate them all.

Anyhow, JoN P, an English compliment from you is highly valued and appreciated. Although I tend to think I've actually gotten worse at grammar and sentence structures. Still, I AM THE KING!

It is sounding like Saturday will be the day of fun.

Work is sooooo boring. I need to get promoted.

Fuck Behemoth

Awesome! I'm psyched to see the Johnnaaron again for the first time in many moons. (Aaron: did you ever get your part of the deposit? I didn't get mine. Perhaps calls to Mr. Flanders are in order?) I am free all day Saturday. That night, around 8 or 9, I am probably going to go to a Halloween party with Matt Z., this is a general invite so anybody is welcome to show. If nobody is into it, with me and Aaron busy for the evening, may I suggest the Jackass movie? I don't really have any desire to see that one, although I'm sure it'll have funny parts in it I'm just not into the Jackass phenomenon.

Johnny, you can stay here no problem, but if it is convenient for Eric to have you there, that is a better all-around solution because I am going to be out on Friday night, and probably will not return until after you arrive. But if Eric can't have you then call me tomorrow and I can leave a key out for you.

Eric, if J-Dog is gonna be chillin with us maybe we better kibosh the D&D game? E-pinions?

My favorite Douglas Adams books are "So Long and Thanks For All the Fish" (the fourth) and "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency." I think those are the two where his writing was the best. The other Hitchhiker books are fun (except Mostly Harmless which is garbage). I think Adams (RIP) had it in him to write some really good stuff, but just didn't get to do it for whatever reason. I was sad when he died. Ah well.

Many funny comments were made in the last couple days, but the funniest has to be the idea of Johnny having to defend the honor of his fuck doll. Johnny, you have certainly come a long way as a writer since Mrs. Pomeroy's class!
Dem Dar Tanks

Well I already talked to Eric about this but I shall enlighten the rest of you. While I was cruising around the Haight-Ashbury area I ran across a store that was selling those tanks. At $80 a pop I could not throw down. Just not enough flow at the moment. But... I did get a chance to play with one and talk to sales person about it. The controls were your basic two stick setup with a Fwd/Rev stick on the left and a Lt/Rt stick on the right. Two triggers were on the front of the controller much like the PS2 L1/R1 buttons, in fact the whole control was a bit playstationesque but blockier and larger. One button was the fire trigger and the other I am not sure what it does. There were also several buttons on the top of the controller which I did not mess with. The sales person did use them to configure the Frequency (Each can be configured with one of four set frequencies). I imagine there is also a reset counter for armor/shots remaining. The two types of Tanks available are a Russian T-34 and a German Panzer. The T-34 has more armor than the Panzer, but carries a payload of only 20 shells. The Panzer has 25. Appearently as you get hit more, your tank slows down. When you fire the tank recoils about 1/2 an inch. The instructions and the controllers are in Japanese, but the the store has a website with translations. As far as the tanks movement goes, they are quite easy to control except if you want to make a narrow degree turn (Approx 15 degrees or less) it can be difficult to get it to turn such an acute angle. Otherwise the controls are quite good. The tanks seem quite good at negotiating terrain and the treads are really cool. I would love to get one of these on a minitures board with terrain-speed-to-endor. Unfortunatly only one tank was charged so I did not get a chance to engage in combat and judge the combat action.

Tanks: B+ (If the price were right I would give it an A-, A if the acute angle turning was better) Obviously not a complete review without a battle field test.

Ja -el: I will need to call you and go over transportation options with you.

Bortz!

Those Dolls are Appealing

I feel kinda pathetic in saying that but hey, what the heck? Still 5000 dollar sticker price, man, that's an expensive doll. Plus where would you hide such a fuck behemoth? In private, I would probably not be ashamed of such a rudamentary act on an inanimate object, but I don't know if I can just plop her on my couch for all to see, even with clothes on. I would probably have to defend her honor! ugh.

Can I be wrong about the action team? I'm sure the law of averages will activate in time. Probably just a talkative flu.

I would like to watch Jack Ass too. Hopefully, maybe that's something we all can do when we get together this weekend. I also want to watch the ring, so maybe we can theatre hop.

Cool Tanks rude. I'll get one when they come to the states. It'd be cool, if they have different gun damage and armor, so you can hit, miss, damage, incapacitate and is all recorded on a mini electronic chip in the tank.

Um... How do you correct that sentence eric? The only thing wrong with it is "watching" ? maybe?

OK... To the fun part of the email:
Uno. Hairon, are you going to go 880 south and stop by my apartment? I think that's the only way unless you want me to meet you somewhere. I can probably get dropped off at one of the freeway exits. But let me know how you want to coordinate this and also which road are you taking? We can either travel the mountainous regions or go through the cow farms. yah

Dos. Hey eric, is it still okay to crash at your house? I'll bring a sleeping bag, guitar, games and some stuff. I'll probably need to stay until Aaron picks me up on Sunday. If not, I can crash at Carrie's place. Who's carrie? Is she one of the Real dolls? That or maybe jon can host me for a night or so. I don't think I've ever stayed at Jons house.

Tres: Should I bring anything else?

Jael

Talkative are we...

Quite a bit of blogin' Yesterday. Hmmm... Jackass I could never really get into. Sometimes the material was really funny. Like the tree chipper being used with lobsters, shoes, watermelons, etc while someone stood in front of the output end of chipper. Yet I could never get over one, the fuck with the public pieces and two, that it was MTV. That channel just aggrevates me. It should be S&ATV (Skits & Advertising Television). Stupid commercials. STupid no music videos. Yeah whatever. The bum fight crap. Nah... Not a chance in hell I would watch that shit. Nuf Said..

Those little tanks do look damn cool. Did you ever see the remote control tanks at Garbage Grove? They were pretty cool too. Although, I do not think they had the IR missles. They were a huge scale, like 1:16 or something like that.

I. Eric you need to read Hitchiker's Guide. At least the first three. Those books are some funny shit. Even though Art is not here I can speak for him too in saying you should read those books. That and Atlas Shrugged. Then give me a 10-15 page annotation of the book followed by a 2 page opinion of the book. Submit to me no later than Saturday morning. This will constitute 50% of your grade this semester.
II. Johnny Khan and I will be coming down friday after work and will probably not roll in until 12 or 1am in the morn. It really will depend on traffic and such. Rumor has it that it is supposed to rain here Friday so that may even delay us further.
III. Johnny I think is crashing at your joint and I think I may need to as well if that is okay with you. My mother is going to have a few guest over and I may not have a place friday at her house. If not that is cool because I can crash at Carrie's place. Saturday I will have a place to crash though.
IV. I will be free to hang with the dudes during the day Saturday until sometime between 6-8pm. My mum's party is of course that night. Depending on several variables I am not sure what time I will need to bail. Sunday I will probably be with my Paw.
V. Work: Day one of being live (Answering live phone calls) SUCKED SHIT! Some camel jockey named ATTA was my first call and he was an asshole. Day two was actually pretty good and all my calls were pretty easy and the people were nice/understanding. BTW gas prices in some BFE town in Louisiana: 1.39 for 87. FUCKERS. 1.72 here!

See you laters boys...

That is the Beauty of Jackass

Everything is self-inflicted, unless they inflict damage on each other. True, there are parts where they fuck with the public, but they never hurt them or pay them to kick each other in the face because they have no other way of making money because they are homeless and are crazy. Those guys (that produce the Bum Fights) are a bunch of pieces of shit riding on the coat tails of Jackass, but will never amount to anything because jackass is good-natured, roughhouse fun between friends (with the occasional hoodwink of the public), and Bum Fights is a terrible exploitaion of some tragically troubles people for "fun" and profit. I have only seen clips on a TV show (actually while working out at a convention!) and just from that little bit of exposure, I too was ashamed to be human, which I usually am anyway, but this was so bad...

PS Me wannee tanks!!!!
I are looking forward to watch the Jackass Movie

I read some stupid internet review of Jackass and the guy was like "it's amazing performance art!!1" I watched one of the Bum Fight (now called BumBang) dvds, and that made me sick to my stomach and really embarrassed to be human. But, supposedly this Jackass stuff is all self-inflected stuff- I'm down to see it!
*I'm getting in the studio tomorrow (wed) to bust out some mixes of the songs we've all recorded there. If and when I get something done, I'll come visit you guys and rox it. In other work related news: I get off the god-forsaken night shift *again* and go back to a slighty harder, but better on my social life, schedule: mon-fri Noon-8pm. Eh- its kind of a drain still, but better than working fucking weekends!
*Last 3 dvds checked out from the biblioteca:
1.)The Last Picture Show - Good movie. Better than I thought'd be. Goddamn, Cybil Sheppard was a f0x! Although I bet it wasnt as uncomfortable as Punch-Drunk Love, its still one of those kinda movies. Grade: B (It definetely warrants a second viewing.)
2.)3am - A Spike Lee produced movie (some other dude wrote and directed it.) Danny Glover, Pam Grier, and Michelle Rodriguez star. Kind of a wierd gritty New Yawk thriller, but with *some* comedy and romance stuff. It was good. It was a Showtime movie, so its got this wierd Non-Hollywood vibe to it (but not super *artsy* either.) There's a serial killer shootin' cabbies! Thats about it.
3.)The Big Sleep - Some old 50's "noir" crime movie. Only half-way through it (I went to go work out and now I'm typing this shit), but so-far: it's alright. I'm afraid it may end up being a very "by the book" noir picture. If you guys haven't seen it, I highly recommend Kubrick's old noir picture The Killing. I haven't seen it in awhile, but its a REALLY GOOD movie (especially being from 1956!)
* Jon-o: You're Flicka review had me rolling on the ground. Good job!
*Elrick: Damn, those tanks look cool as hell! God knows if and when they come out her in the states. If we did it mail-order, we'd have to pay about $60 a tank (which is alot, but I'd do it) and THEN pay some stupid overseas shipping cost. Keep an eye out- maybe we'll catch some over here.
*Damn, I need to get me a RealDoll.
___
Bro n. Short for brother; a mid 90's substitute for dude - from the SURFIN'ary

1) After these last few posts, Johnny's calculations on how many words per day produced by all the Action Team is going to be all outta whack....
2) I don't condone much of anything that MTV does these days, I've kinda been down on the whole thing since I stopped watching Marc Goodman VJ Tina Turner and Billy Idol videos for JP and I at his house... but anyway, I know this isn't going to be anyone's cup of tea other than mine, but I have to say despite the amount of grief I am about to recieve for this, I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE JACKASS MOVIE. There I said it. The companion book is fucking funny, too. I have been reading it bit by bit at Borders, which brings me to my next item:
3) I purchased The Ultimate Hitchiker's Guide today. It was super cheap (16 bucks) and you get all the books in one volume and the whole fake leather bound bible/hymnbook look with the guilded edges, ribbon bookmark and everything. Now, if I can only get myself to finally read this shit.... by the way, Sherlock Holmes is boring me to death. It is far too predictable (so far) and not knowing any history behind it, Doyle must have written it for the lower classes because the language is so elementary (my dear Watson) and the stories so linear, it's sad. I'm sure it was good back in the day when everything Holmes did wasn't common cultural knowledge, but whatever.
4) As I prepare myself to journey down the Teaching Credential Path I have started to "study" for one of the required tests already. The test is called the Praxis I, and so far it is like the equivalent of the GED for 5th grade kids. ex. Correct this sentence: Jon and Rudy are looking forward to watch the Jackass Movie. Ugh.
5) Whats going on this weekend with Johnny and Enron?
6) Those are the coolest tanks ever, Rudy. Tell me where to get 'em and I'll be there!
7) Surfing has been GOOD. Due to the wave size, Ryan did not only snap the string that holds the leash to the surfboard, but a sizeable chunk of fiberglass was stripped off his board after dropping in on a monster of a wave. The wave peeled the fiberglass off his board.
8) Mike?

Punch-Drunk Love

Whoa. I saw this today and whatever you think it is, that's not what it is. This was an intense, intense movie that was not at all a romantic comedy. If you thought any parts of Boogie Nights or Magnolia were nerve-wracking, then this movie will kill you. It's like those movies with all of the non-intense parts cut out. It's barely 90 minutes long, but I was so tense and uncomfortable that it seemed much longer. I liked the movie, but it was not everybody's cup of tea (Aaron, for example, should stay away). It was very funny, very original, and very emotionally involving. Adam Sandler was pretty amazing. I also have an affection for Emily Watson after having to watch The Boxer about twenty times at Panasonic back in the day, it was nice to see her working again.

I give this movie a strong B+ after one viewing, and I will probably see it again.

The Boxer wasn't too bad either actually, I still sort of like it even after repeated viewings.

My Friend Flicka

OK nothing in this movie is half as good as the Simpsons moment where they stumble across Moe reading to kids in the hospital and he's saying, "And truly she was... my friend Flicka" while wiping away tears. This movie is an early Technicolor mid-century piece of shit. You know how for some reason women in old movies all affect this bullshit half-British accent? (Ie, everybody talks a little like Carrie Fisher in Star Wars.) Well in this movie we see that this is a genetic trait because the parents in this movie are American ranchers but the son for some reason talks like a Victorian poster child. "Oh, fahtha... I doo ever so hope you'll give me a ho-as!" Back transcription of a fake British accent, but if you care that much, fuck you. The accent is strikingly like that of the prince who wants to be rescued and keeps bursting into song in "Quest for the Holy Grail." Except for in one scene the kid is talking to another kid and in that scene he has a thick cornpone accent for some reason. "I dunno, I shore hope paw is gonna get me that there horse!" Basically the plot of the story is that the kid is a stupid fucking klutz, he keeps fucking up and causing the horses to stampede, he doesn't do his schoolwork because he's a fucking moron, and then the goddamn overprotective mom cock-teases the dad into giving the kid one of the ranch's valuable horses to raise. I'm not kidding, this is really what happens. So the poor hard-working dad with the real American accent gives a horse to the kid 45 minutes into the movie and then what happens? First the horse runs into some barbed wire and gets all fucked up. Then the kid ties a bandanna around the horse's neck and everybody acts like it's a miracle. Then one of the wounds gets infected and the horse gets really sick, and the kid comes out at night and sees the horse lying in the river to cool off, and so the kid ends up falling asleep in the river--you'd think he could comfort and nurture the horse from the bank that the horse is half-lying on, but no--so the kid gets really sick. Then a mountain lion tries to kill the horse and the dad shoots the mountain lion and then the dad has a hilarious speech where he says, "But really, Flicka taught us all something. You, responsibility. Me, that sometimes there can be hope beyond hope." Then the movie ends. There's like 45 minutes of buildup to the kid getting the horse, and then about 35 minutes of the kid actually having the horse, and most of the time the horse is sick. What the fuck? If the children's book was as shitty as the film version it wouldn't be a classic, it would be burned at the stake.

Grade: F is for Flicka. This is one of the three worst movies I've seen at my lousy job, with one of the others being the Bruce Willis version of The Jackal, and I'm leaving a slot open for the third, but probably it's Pootie Tang.

On the plus side I did see four episode of NYPD Blue, season 1 today. That is actually a darn good show! With plenty of man-ass for Johnny!
Change of plans- we're going to Hong Kong to get some DigiQ's!!!

Damn, you're all a war-mongering bunch, so I figured you get a kick outta these bad boys! I've been getting (sorta) into these mini-rc's (get your zipzaps now and sell 'em on EBAY come christmas- they're almost outta stock!) and I ran into these crazy little TANKs! Check this out: Mini radio-controlled tanks with infared "missles" on them, and a bunch of different game modes (dm, teamplay, etc.) I guess they have real treads (not just fake shit with wheels sticking out underneath) and good traction and range, etc. 4 different assignable frequency I.D.s, so even if some of us have the same tank model, 4 of us can play at once! Here's the tank manual in english. I guess there's also some crazy mini radio-controlled submarines coming out to. DAMN! Fuck video games. :)
[AT]Radi0

Soundin' good. I know you asked (maybe) for some suggestions on playlist, so here are some quickes:
1. No more Kottonmouth Kings - for some reason, when they come on, I'm forced to disconnect! (Oh- I can't stand them!) :)
2. See number 1.
3. More skits- the other week I was listening when you had an SNL skit come on- I surprised that it worked so well as just audio, but it did! My buddy downloaded a bunch of those Jeopardy skits, as well as the infamous "I've got a fever, and the only prescrition is MORE COWBELL!" Funny stuff.
Otherwise, sounding pretty cool. Heard the station I.D.'s you did- good stuff! Mine, of course, was ACE, but I guess that aint goin on till we see each other next and can exchange CDs. :(
Well, Limp Dickskit had another early night, so I'm OUTTA HERE b4 midnight- ROX! You guys all geared up for Jackass:The Movie, right!?!

WOO HOO! DEATH TO THE REVIEW BOARD!

Now I have the freedom to post and piss wherever I feel like. (Wizzzzzzzz) ah..

So, actually i like the idea of combining the two. Maybe that will make people post more anyhow. As is, the amount of posting barely averages 2 posts a day. That's Pathetic! The average post let's say is 100 words long, and thats 6 people on the action team, counting silent motormike who attributes almost none. So the action team generates an average thought process of 33.3 words per person per day. Translate that to IQ points, and the action team is Breeelieant as well as huroieec.

review: House of Blue leaves

An ex-coworker of mine wanted to go watch a play on sunday. Having not gone to one many a moons, so I decided to partake in this event and made a date. She's a really cool cat, graduated from berkeley, and is actually my relationship mentor. I think she's really cool. No date potential here, she's over 35, i think, but still looks like shes 29 or 30. Anyhow besides the point, I perused Yahoo and found some reviews on the play it and it sounded interesting. Rode an uneventful but packed bart trip during the same time that the Oakland Raiders game was going on. I heard this one kid say, there's the oakland cathedral, the holy place. Yah Raiders.

Anyways, got to the theatre, and the show was great, not to mention I also had Center K row seats which put me pretty close to the stage.. I didn't think I would enjoy the play as much as I did. Even though I felt like yawning all the time, it wasn't because of boredom. The plot was simple and odd. It was about a zookeepers life during a span of maybe 2 days in 1965 which in two days he literally saw his life shatter before him. His wife is insane and is about to be sent to a insanitorium, he has a mistress that he plans to run away with, and has a son that is an AWOL fanatic that plans to blow up the Pope. I don't want to spoil the ending, but I would recommend it. I think plays are great when the cast is authentic. Really beats movies and television. Price is the only drawback i'd say. It made the two hours go by really really fast.

Critical Action Team Update!!!! Alert!!!

Reviews are out, and Archives are in! In time I may post some classic "reviews" posts (Like Mike) in the main area so they will be archived forever, just the same as the rest of our inane and crappy posts will be. Also, Action Team Radio might have a new feature (which Jon experienced today): some audio clips of my experiments with the Bell-Labs text-to-speech website! So far the clips contain nothing of real substance, but perhaps in the future, we can come up with some goodies. I think I'll do the PSA right now ! It's great to be out of work and have nothing to look forward to tomorrow other than surfing and playing with the text-to-speech editor!

Review: Review Page

...

Farewell, sweet reviews
Yes, it was going unused.

Simpson, Homer.

That is all.
No More Reviews

I have removed the pages and everyone from the action team reviews blog. Here is your heads up as to why you no longer have access to it. Huzzah!
Sting Ring vs. The Ring

I agree that you should get rid of the review section. If this was a posting community of 20 or more people I would say we need two or more posting area to spread the topics around, but it seems that one section or another gets neglected in our current arrangement. Just have one posting area is my vote. Sounds like you had a rocking time at the Staples Center. Me... I am bummed I do not get to see hockey. No cable at this place and certainly no Fox Sports West. D'oh...

Had Indian food the other night. I felt cheated by the time I got out of there. The food was decent but the prices on the food was ridiculous. Then I got sting ring the next day and the food was not even that hot. Go figure. I will go back to searching for a good decent priced Indian food restaurant.

Last night I went to see a movie called Dark Water. Had I know about it more in advance I would have called Johnny Khan Late. The movie is a Japanese movie made by the same person that created the original The Ring movie. It was a pretty darn good psycho thriller that left me leary to put my hands in running water and unwilling to drink tap water. It is always good when a movie leaves a residual effect on you after leaving the theater.

I miss Sions
LA Kings vs. Vancouver Canucks

So, I cancelled my season tickets to the Kings this season and apparently they want me to continually spent insane amounts of money on hockey games, so they sweetened the deal by offering me two complimentary event suite tickets to the Canuck game last night. All I can say is wow.

Ryan and I took the Green/Blue Line there and arrived around 6.15, we picked up the tickets at will call and entered through the VIP entrance. We walked the stairs to Suite E.9 and opened the doors into a mega luxury box filled with free food, free beer, other formet season ticket holders and ticket reps. We made a pact to never look the reps in the eye so we wouldn't have to listen to their schpiel about returning to the Kings and went straight for the food.

So much food to eat. Cobb salad, fajitas, veggie burritos, crab cakes (yecch), chips and salsa, carmel apples, lemon squares, brownie bits, pecan pie slices, and of course the Corona -- all for free! We ended up having 5 beers each, too much food to think about, and before we took off for another suite that had less people in it, we met Dave Taylor and had him autograph both our jerseys. The game was somewhat flat overall, but there was a fight, some good hitting, some weird goals, and a good Canadien Nat'l Anthem.

After eating and drinking before the game, we ate and drank during the game and between periods, it was as if we were Roman Patricians at the Coloseium (SP, Jon?) and were basking in the intense over stimulation, minus the underage male fellatio artists by our sides, of course -- we had underage FEMALE artists last night.

All in all, one hell of a good time.

PS I think I am going to remove the reviews page. Yay or Nay? (not that anyone will tell me one way or another, of course)
