Bevare! Eat Eggs!

Being in a haunted house is pretty fun! I'm lying on top of a slab (aka, our washer/dryer, covered in a sheet). Above me is a bunch of electrical "mad scientist" equipment. So what I do is, when people come through the hall of floating skulls, and I hear the second blast from the air gun, I switch on the mad scientist equipment and then loll over. Sometimes when people return from the graveyard I rise from the slab if the moment is right -- I totally improvise dudes.

Anyway yeah haunted houses are rad. I've always liked Halloween. No sexy cops/angels/devils/prisoners/maids/schoolgirls/vampires have come through, however. I'll make sure to post immediately if they do because that is the kind of fucking news that the fucking Action Team likes to hear about!

PS to Enron
Want to go catch the Firefly movie or get in some gaming action on a weeknight this week? My girlie-girl is out of town and so it's gonna be all geek, all the time.

PS to Steve I'msteve
I spoke with your prom date a couple of days ago. She invited me to her birthday party. What the fuck man.

Update to the Whole Team

Zin Zorba

See! That public tongue lashing I gave my players payed off, a la Mike Keenan style. I got +9.5 points of ranking in one eve. Too bad I will fall a good bit this weekend to be sure. I think only 6 players total play Saturday and Sunday. Boo-urns.

I will be in LA LA land this weekend for my mother's Halloween/B-Day party on Saturday. If anyone wants to swing by sweet. Although I think Eric will find much more enteraining things too do. ELzar, "Yeah, I have some things to do". Me, "Like what?" Elzar, "Ummm, I have to uhhh, paint my cat's toe-nails. Stampy likes them green for Halloween."

Elzar, Ry, Rude, Pump, and Dr. Vagina, maybe we can get together for lunch on Sunday if you have some time.

Go Kings Go
Hey Jon? That's all nice and everything.. but did you SEE the SATANIC DEATH PUMPKIN, FFS!!? OMFGSTFU!@!11

I'm getting sick, I think. Joy.

Goodnight.

I've been trying to follow this hockey stuff, but I am confused. Why don't you just roll 1d20 in a month to determine the winner?

I am surrounded by boxes. My girlfriend went down to LA to pick up her stuff for her new place. Her van had considerably more space than she needed, though, so she swung by my parents' place and offered to drive all my old stuff up here. UNFORTUNATELY, there's nowhere to put anything in our otherwise huge-ass garage because my roommate is setting up a haunted house downstairs, so into my room it went. Over thirty boxes full of old essays, computer game boxes from 1992, books I didn't return to the Costa library.. man, and to think that this is probably about 1/4 of the total stuff that used to be down there.
That is sweet.
Correct, sir!

You gots it right my man!

And yes, you can catch fire at the end of the season and take the lead, but that's what I like about it. I think that if you accumulated points each week for a winning a category, the ass in the lead would pull away and no one could catch up.

I like the potentially volatile nature of the ranking system. It makes each day exciting, whereas if points accumulated, it would be "Art's in the lead. AGAIN. Ho hum. I quit."

Like tonight is exciting so far! Art has dropped 4 points and mike has gained 6!

Wheee!!!!
Ok, I think I have a grasp of it now.. tell me if I'm wrong.

Each "team" accumulates stats throughout our fantasy season, and if at any time you are the leader in any of the ten categories listed, then you have five points. So, theoretically, the maximum points any one team can have at any time with five teams and ten categories is 50 points? That also seems to mean that you could lead for most of the season and then someone goes berserk and scores 30 goals and 50 assists and all of a sudden you lose at the end. Am I thinking right?

I dunno.. it still seems a little weird, even if I've got that right.

Why not just have so many points awarded for goals, assists, etc.. and add it all up as you go to establish ranking between teams? That seems to be incredibly more logical to me.
Dude!

I need to have a talk with a few dead beats on my team. Uggg... I am the best. And by best, I mean, my guys suck. And by suck I mean what iz thiz pluzminuz? PIM? PIMento? And it is going to take weeks to recover from the savaging I received at the hands of Thibault. F'n turd. 5.66 GAA. Can you say leaky Fiset? Ahhhh... with a power house .857 Save %. RUle'D de la ice for two sweet games. Ass. All my guys are pansies.

PS
As usual, Elzar the Brute has the most Penalty minutes. Everytime I play fantasy Hockey with him, he has this burning need to oppress.
OMG

Okay. Let's say that there is one, and only one category for scoring in our league. Lets call our fake, hypothetical league, The Actioniest League. Our one category is goals, and goals alone, so the following is the only stat to consider:

G

Okay. Lets say there are 3 of us in the league, Art, Ryan and Eric. We each only have one player on our team. I have Sean Avery, Art has Wayne Gretzky, and Ryan has Gordie Howe.

The first night of our league has Avery scoring zero goals, Wayne scoring 2 goals and Gordie scoring 1 goal. That means that Art leads with 2 goals, Ryan is in second with one, and I am in last with zero.

Since there are only three of us, and only one category, G, Art gets 3 points, Ryan gets 2 points, and I get one point. Think of "points" as rank.

Lets say no one scores any goals on the second night of our league, so the rank remains the same, Art in first with 3 points, Ryan in second with 2 points, and Eric in third with 1 point. You'll notice the points don't accumulate day to day, they just maintain their "ranks".

The third night, I have an unbelieveable night and score 4 goals, Wayne scores none and Gordie scores 1. That means I have 4 goals, Art and Ryan are tied with 3 each. That means I will lead the league with 3 points now (gaining +2 overnight), Art and Ryan will be tied with 1.5 each. 1.5 because that is the total remaining points left after I take my three for first place, which leaves 2+1=3 points left to split between Art and Ryan. Art will show a -1.5 points on the night, and Ryan will show a -.5.

Remember, these points do not accumulate, they are used as rankings.

Let's say we are 45 nights into the season and Art has 54 goals, Ryan has 102 goals, and Eric has 104 goals. Art will only have 1 point for being in third, Ryan will have 2 for being in second and I will have 3 for being in first. No more, no less.

Now, lets say on the 46th night, Art scores and UNBELIEVEABLE 45 goals!!!! Changing his total to 99G on the season! Ryan scores 3 goals, and I score no goals. All that this changes in the "points" is that Art will stay the same at 3rd place with one point (+0), Ryan will move into first, three points, with his 105G (+1), and I will fall to second place, 2 points (-1), with 104 goals.

Now. Add assists (A) to the mix. Without going into it again, here is the abbreviated version:

- Art has 50 goals (1rst place, for 3 points) and 50 assists (3rd place, for 1 point). Total points = 4

- Ryan has 40 goals (2nd place, for 2 points) and 60 assists (2nd place, for 2 points). Total points = 4

- Eric has 30 goals (3rd place, for 1 points) and 100 assists (1rst place, for 3 points). Total points = 4

Holy shit! We are all tied with 4 points for first place! We are awesome!

But you see, that since you kick ass in one category and suck in another, you will perform as well as someone that is balanced in all categories.

Get it? The rules button for rotisserie scoring in the fantasy hockey section probably explains it better, but I tried to be clear enought. Understand Jon and Rudy?
Ehh.. now I'm more confused than when I started. LOL.

Dunno why, but it's just not clicking for me whatsoever. If we score points from 1-5 in each category (daily? weekly? wtf?).. why do we sometimes see negative points posted?

I thought we were awarded points when our players did something worthy of awarding a point.. ? You say that points are instead awarded based on who is leading in whatever category.. but.. when is that tabulated? Is it points awarded every week FOR that week, and cumulative stats are not an issue? Or, is it cumulative stat leaders by week? Or.. by day? Or, lunar cycle.. or.. eh.. anyway. Yeah. I'm confused.
Well, sort of. In our league, we have six offensive categories where you can score points: Goals, Assists, +/-, Penalty minutes, etc. There are also 4 goalie stats: Wins, save percentage, etc. Each category is assigned 5 points since there are 5 teams in the league. If there were 15 teams in the league, each category would be worth 15 points. If you lead in that category, you earn 5 points. If you are in second place in that category, you earn 4 points, and so on. Then, your points for each categoy are added up, and there is your total score.

Like I said before, the points generally do not change very much from day to day, but the challenge is, if you are in last place in a catgory and are only earning 1 point from that statistic, you will want to try to bolster your team by dropping a player that you don't necessarily need and add one that would add strength to that deficient category. Hope this helps!
Hmm..

So, I can sort of compare Goals, Assists, Points and +/- between players, but I guess what I don't understand is what effect each of these things has on my overall score. Is the only thing I'm really concerned with is "points" when I'm selecting who to start/bench?

Also, there is a place to click on season or last week and this week on the My team page. Yeah, geez, I wish I didn't get it either. Maybe I'd be doing better.
Hockey

Click on the players name and you will magically be whisked away to a page detailing that players past statistics, as well as his current stats for the season. This should give you an opportunity to see if he should continue to perform at his current level, or if he is under/over achieving.

Also, check out how his team is doing and who is on his team as well. Just like in football, just cause you got a great reciever, doesn't mean his shitty quarterback is gonna give him sweet stats for the year.

Also, I vote you don't change what you are doing cause you are kicking ass right now!!!
Teh blog ate my post.

Got some kind of submission error, so, on with the short-short version...

..................

Edit: Ok, that's bizarre. Now it's showing. I like cake.
Fantasy Hockney

I don't get it.

Up until now, I've just been plugging in whoever happened to be playing that day while other people had the day off.. but I'm in a bit of a quandry for days where mostly everyone is playing because I don't really have any reference as to how good/bad a player is versus any other. For example, in fantasy football on yahoo, there is a running point total for that particular player displayed so you kind of know who is scoring most of the points.. but there doesn't seem to be such a thing for fantasy hockey.. unless it's buried in a sub-menu?

So, is there a quick way to know who is scoring points and who isn't, for the purposes of establishing your lineup?

=/

Watch Out, Hoobastank

So yeah I finally hooked up my Xbox Live account. It only took me five months from the time I bought the package to open it up and install it. It is fun! Halo 2 is good times, Unreal Championship 2 is good times, haven't tried Crimson Skies yet. Yay me, yay weird voice masking, yay every third person having the word "NINJ4" in their name!

Punkbuster doesn't do shit.

If you're looking for a kick ass FPS, try Call of Duty. SO GOOD. It has a multiplayer option but I've only gone through the single player end of it.. which is very, very nice. Still has a crosshair system which I'm not huge on (I like the realistic iron sighting systems better).. but it is absolutely kick ass. It's a year or two old now, but it is so so sweet (outside of the occaisonal lame tank-driving mission or AAA mission which are wayyyy too arcadish for my taste). I believe Call of Duty 2 is coming out soon.. which I will purchase, oh yes.

Also, if you're at all interested, you should check out World War II Online. The next release is a huge one accompanied by an optional box-release. I believe it's going live this week. Even without the v1.20 release, the game is much improved in recent months graphically and with a brand new user interface, too.
Cheatin in games sucks! But, i noticed all the games i've played are heavy with the punkbuster shit, so do you think people still cheat on it? I'm sure they do, but most of the times i've died these few games I've played is just cuz i've been open to get shot on.

Oo, something I noticed I don't miss from FPS's is all the doosh-bags talking on the general channel. God, just a few games of Wolfenstein Enemy Territory or AA make me realize that the WoW general chat was never that bad. It definately could get obnoxious, but because people can report others for using offensive language, stuff was dealt with pretty switfly. On all these free and open games, the jerk-mouthes come out in force. Oh well!

I've been drunk since like noon (and I worked 10 hours today to boot, haha stick it to you suckers!)
