Pick 'Em!

Hopefully Aaron and Ryan remember to get their pick 'em decisions made and submitted by big football Sunday! I don't know what happens if you don't. Maybe a default setting with all favorites to win? I don't know.
Broken Scores

Okay, I know it is probably wrong to try and pilfer the scores for our own site from CBS, but I think it is cool! The only problem is they have shifted to a crazy new javascript way of doing things that is throwing me off my game!

Auto racing and golf work, but nothing else does. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. The same code is on the CBS site, but there ALL the scores work, and why not the NFL? I don't know. Which brings me to the point of my post:

Aaron! Fix it!

It is some pretty crazy JS going on, and I know you have been out of the game for awhile now, but you know a hell of a lot more than I do, so look at the code and test it and tell me WTF!?!?!?

This request is open to all, of course. Mike?
I like the new site. I liked the old site.

I like to boogie?

Anyway.. just a quick note on the new site.. can't seem to get th "login & PW" thingy on the left to work.. still had to punch the "true love" linky to get in.

Just picked up Michelle's mom from the airport and we're hanging out and just kind of waiting for the big moment to happen.

Yeehaw!

site looks nice! i vote "set sails for fagot"

order neverwinter nightrider and should get it by wed or so - still gotta find a $1.00 mic for my computar.

So here we go again

New site, again. This time it will probably stick as I am using my new best friend in the world: phpNuke!!!! This is awesome! Lunarpages offered it as a quick and easy install from their admin panel (Lunarpages is teh shit) so I did it, and it is radicool! All sorts of free stuff to add, there will be many awesome changes in the future, so for now enjoy!
Hey Aaron, quit your job. I'm coming up and I expect entertainment! I will pay you 5¢/hour.

So I've bought my ticket (waited too long, paid too much, oh well). I'm flying up Freitag morning so by about noon I should be tethering kitties to poles and satisfying my asian ladyboy fetish. Yee-ha!

Eric, are we getting together tomorrow?
Ugghhhhh....

Work. Gotta love it for the money. I am sorry I havent been posting lately. I have been working some unpredictable long hours. Plus, since I hadnt been working for so long, I am not used to the long hours and busting my ass while I am working. It just feels good to be working and not a shit sitting around the house trying to find a job. What sucks is that this is only a temp job, but it is work.

jA -El: Yo Momma. Oh yeah, didint you know you were going to get the royal blue ball at the end of the thrid book. I mean it is the third in seven books. Oh well.

Jon and I found a really cool book shop in SF when we were waling around the mission district. I forget the name of it, but we were cruising down the street and saw a little cthulhu plush doll in the display window. We went in to find a shop dedicated to Horror/Sci-Fi/Fantasy movies. The shop keep overheard us talking about Martin and suggested another similar series that is 5 books into a 10 book series. I donno I am a little hestitant to get into another frustrating series that I have to wait years for a resolution to it. Jon can you remeber what the name of the author was?

Ummm I would love to hop in on the NWN action and group online gaming. Unfortunately I am not sure where my hours are going to lead me. I am on day shift right now, but I may be thrown back into swing again. I should know whats up at the end of next week. Boooo...

December 2-5. 68 days. Yeehaa! Anyway pre-reg is available now for GenCon SoCal!

u can get star wars at:

http://gba.ouroad.org/index.php?act=newroms

click on the games link, then there are 2 links at the bottom in chinese or something - its the 2nd link that will d/l it - kinda slow tho - maybe 40-60kbps, but it works.

Marduk and Friends

- That was some funny ass sheet there King Arthur. Seriously, I was sitting alone and still laughing out loud, a sure sign of true humor! If you are going to read it, read it in it's entirety, otherwise, I fear much of the humor will be lost on you!

- Continuing with the FF theme to this blog recently, I have caved and purchased not one, but two FF related products from Barnes and Chernobyl. First, is a silly player rater/ FF magazine. Crappy, but useful for someone as lame as me. Second, a funny book called "Committed" about an ex-advertising guy that quits his job to finally win his FF league, and is a true story. So far I have laughed out loud and is proving to be funny and insightful. I have already learned that FF was created by some schleps in the AFL Oakland Raiders organization in the 60's for something to do, then it spread, and the rest is history. Already one comparison of FF to D&D, which seems to be more common than you might think.

- I need a mic for the teamspeak, and I need to D/L that Star Wars ROM! Where is it Rudy? plz thx
Wow.. this is FUNNY!!

Photoshop Phriday.. not real good this week. HOWEVER.. a 'review' of The Sims 2 is on the webpage along with a nice narrative of his charater's nefarious activities. I seriously had to keep from howling in my office at this... LOL!

well, best guestimate is that the new book will be out by fall 2005 - so, ONE sucky year to wait. In the meantime, you can spoiler yourself out and read all the chapters online from the new book - theres about 6 or 7 out there. Plus, he has a couple of really good short stories you can get at the library set about 100 years before the books - I just read the second one, "The Sworn Sword" and it was also very good (the 1st one being "the hedge knight")

ya, waiting sucks. I checked out Wolves of Calla and I'm gonna try that- I dunno - we'll see if i can get back into the dark tower shit...

Playing that new Star Wars game for gba - pretty sweet - awesome animation ala prince of persia - seems a little easy tho so far. r0mz it up!

THIS DUMB BOOK STINKS!!!!!!!

I'm going to have to wait another 2 years to find out what happens to Jon Snow next???!!! I hate this book. Way too many characters. There's only like 6-7 chapters on 1 character. That makes for like an hour or two of good reading. I'm writing my own segment.

Jon snow dies a horrible death by falling off the wall. All the kings men tried to put him back together again.

The End.

Lame.
Welcome to the Action Team, Fucko!

I was able to connect by using the "annonymous" button instead of "registered" with the actionjackson p/w you provided. However, got a "connection timed out" message shortly thereafter each time. Dunno.. ?

album news: its going good! its hard work, but im almost done! gotta go argo-nam style this weekend and knock out a few songs by wednesday! YAR!

i gotta shit!

goodluck with the move up north jon! thats way rad!

Done and Done

Okay, so I setup a dynamic IP update account with the fine folks at No-IP, and we now have a server running.

Name: The Action Team
Address: actionteam.no-ip.info:8768
Pass: actionjackson
Type: Clan

Currently there is a registered user and password required for login, so I will register everyone's user:pw as firstname:firstname, so if you want to tinker, use those settings
Teamspeak

If we don't have a static-IP computer/server to host the teamspeak program with a consistent IP address, then you're right, we'd have to get the IP from the host every time we wish to connect. If we DO have a computer that has a static IP address, then my understanding is that all that needs to be happening is for that computer to be turned on and have the teamspeak server software running for everyone to log in. If you're on cable (and maybe DSL.. I dunno) I think you aught to probably have a static IP address?

As far as hardware goes, all you need is speakers to hear and some kind of microphone to transmit. If we're role playing anyway.. it might be best to use the in-game chat for our "character" to speak and use the teamspeak for us to B.S. "out of game".

Updated baby news: Had a doctor's appointment today and he said she's at 2cm dialation (sp) which more or less means we're still on track for a delivery in the next few days. The 27th was the original estimated due date and it looks like that might very well hold true. Michelle wants to try to do this all natural which is admirable (I dunno if I'd be willing or able to try it without pain medication).. so we'll see how that goes. In the end.. *I* might need the meds to stay sane while she's in all that pain. I don't do well watching loved ones and friends in agony.

Anyway.. maybe we'll have to try and shoot for next week on the teamspeak and NWN experience. I'm going to try and get online with NWN maybe later tonight after flying and see how that goes. I think you can get into "pickup" type games as I understand it.

ACTUALLY.. I just remembered that one of the guys from my flight squadron has a "persistent" NWN world that he sometimes hosts. I've never played in it or tried it out, but I'll post a request/message about it today and see if he can get it up by tonight for our trial use. That would be fun!

Late,

~O.
1 order straight from hell!

Dirt cheap software. 8.95, shippings kinda the killer. 4.95, so total of like 14-15 bucks. If you write them after you order it, they'll give you a tracking number.
where'd u end up ordering from jael, and for how much? i might order this weekend. also, im familiar with teamspeak from my wolfenstein days - there was another one also - roger wilco - i dont remember which was supposed to be better but coolage either way.

rrrrrawk!

Team Speak

Okay, I figured out how to run the server and I can connect and everything like that, however, I cannot browse the server lists and find it, I have to directly connect, and I can't find any documentation explaining the latter. So if we do it, everyone will have to create a server to connect to each time, which is pretty easy actually.

Also, what hardware do we need for this to work, Art? Just our speakers and a mic plugged in?

I think tonight will be too quick to try and set a game up for everyone, but I would be interested in trying to connect to your TS server for your plane game and figuring out WTF.
Tonight is your night, bro!

Actually, tonight is my night.. you guys up for giving this a try tonight, or are we still a little ways away from being able to do this? Otherwise, I'll be flying in the skies of WWII for the evening! Weeee!

Hurricane Hailey (spelling permitting) continues to hover off the coast and doesn't show any immediate signs of landfall. In preparation, I hung several shelves last night and cleared out about 4 trashbags' worth of old clothes and garbage to make room for the crib I need to assemble.

IKEA Note: Great products, great prices.. SUCK ASS assembly/installation instructions.

It's time to get it on!

I get never winter nights in the mail today! So get ready boys, for funfilled adventures in the cyberealm! Cyberrealm adventures tm.

Hook it up!

Magic: The Flamethrower

Never really did get into the whole magic thing.. probably for lack of people around me interested/willing in farting around with it. I think I played with Aaron once at the river with some borrowed cards.. but that's about it.

NWN goodness.. I'm *typically* available for an extended period of gaming time on Thursday nights (that's what I've carved out of my weekly schedule for the last year or two anyway, as per negotiation with the Commander in Chief)

However, with impending baby this weekend (or next), I have no frigging idea when/where I'll be available. The wife is talking a big game about lettimg me still hold on to my Thursday night gaming/computer night but I give that about 50/50 for holding strong once put to the test. For you retards, I'd even give up my weekly flight simulator night.

Anyone interested/willing to set up a NWN Teamspeak server? Software is free and easy to use. I might be able to ask for someone elsewhere to host a channel for us once a week.. I dunno. Easiest solution would be to have someone in our group do it, but that failing, I can see about asking around in other circles I frequent to see if they'd be willing. I don't have the tech-ability to host/program/whatever to make it work myself.

(Can I name my character Mr. Theride or Beenine?)

Late,

Bad Magic News For Eric

So. I picked up a copy of the new 8th edition Core Set that includes two small decks thinking that I might tantalize my lovely wife into playing with me, she consistently kicks my ass at Harry Potter, so I thought I might give it a try. TO no avail. But interestingly enough, there was also included with the cards a CD containg M:TG online, and if I registered, I could get all the cards that came with the game in my online library for free. So I did it and putzed around and became intrigued!

Then I found the 8th Ed Theme decks for purchase, and I did, because the training room is basically all Theme decks being played for practice. I dropped the 9 bucks and bought the white and have played a few games and it is fun!

Now, I know what you are all thinking. But you are paying for non-tangible cards! Who cares? At this point in my life, this is the ONLY way I am ever going to play a game of Magic again, not to mention quite possibly ANY card game as everyone slowly but surely moves away. I could care less if I don't get the cards. In light of moving, the "less clutter" factor also is a big "+" with me too.

So that is all. I am not asking anyone else to play with me, just telling a tale of my first step into the abyss that is Magic, or rather this would be my second step actually....

Good NWN news

I got an NWN test server running last night. You need to forward about 10 ports on your router (thanks, Eric). We should pick a time to play. When's good for people? I'll be pretty busy up until my move--that's next Thursday--but after that should have copious amounts of free time.

I've also learned that the PC versions of the expansions install on the Mac, so I can install those cheaply, should we decide to use them....
WHOA.. I must have one of these!

JET-MAN!

By teh whey..

Check out the "pictures" section here.. geez.. it's like a huge orgy more than a "festival"... LOL!

Boy, do I know hockey!

Um, yeah. So, I went 6-10 in the pick em and I have a feeling I was decimated by Jael (Note to self: When you hax0rz and rig the draft, do it so that I am the one who benefits). At least if I am going to lose, might as well lose big with a terrible showing, right?

Ugh, I know nothing about football, but I tells ya, this is THE BEST and most fun way to learn! Ryan and I were actually watching some games on Sunday and was interested, and I watched ALL of the TiVo'd Monday night game, with some FFing when the Viks blew the field goal to keep it 17-9. Ugh.

Oh, yeah. Leslie and I are moving. Moving to Arkansas. And by Arkansas I mean a little house in the tree section of MB. No more motherloving motorcycles rattling this well built house to its very foundation on weekends!
My trip to San Francisco

I'm on caffeine life support right now after the marathon drive home. I had two cups of coffee late last night--big mistake because I couldn't sleep at all; I finally fell asleep around 2:00 and kept waking up every 45 minutes or so. Around 6:30 I was sick of it and just got up. The second hour of the drive, on the 152, was the hardest--I was reading braille a lot more than I'd like.

Anyway... I looked at three places this weekend. The first was a slightly shabby, but not too bad, three-bedroom. The living room bookcase was full of 1st edition D&D books (including my favorite, Manual of the Planes), as well as the TORG box set and various other books--unfortunately I didn't meet the owner since he was moving out. The girls I interviewed with were a little younger and I didn't feel much of a bond with them so I essentially wrote off that sublet as soon as I left. I comforted myself by stealing some dude's tacos. It's a long story.

The second place was a nice studio in Noe Valley (a very sunny, and somewhat expensive part of the city), a house divided into two apartments and shared by an architect and an artist. The rental studio is the living space of the artist, who will be gone for October and a few days of November. Part of the sublet is caring for her two cats, cute tabbies with floppy bellies. They are normally indoor cats but can be let into the small backyard provided that they are placed in their harnesses and tethered to the striped croquet pole hammered into the grass. The studio is really large and contains a mini-fridge, microwave, and lamination press.

The third place was a not-so-nice two-bedroom in a transitory spot between a very chi-chi area and some projects. This was a very interesting interview. The leaseholder/roommate was a thirty-something who was a former attorney and an embittered survivor of the dot-com era who lost thousands of dollars of stock options basically on a technicality. She's now working as a masseuse while trying to figure out her next job. She was probably 130 pounds but her grip was stronger than mine. She also had cats, three of them, one of which was so fat that it looked like a round, black, velvety ball. Anyway, that was an interesting conversation but I didn't feel great about the place.

So... I took the studio sublet. Unless there's some unexpected problem, I'll be catsitting for most of October! I'll have to scramble to find something else for November, and I still don't have a job yet, but it might be easier to find something once I'm up there. If my savings run low I can always come back to LA and Panasonic to replenish... the one nice thing about my temp position is that there are no hard feelings going in and out, and my boss is a big fan of my work so I imagine I'd be able to work there again.

Many thanks to Johnny for the futon, Cocoa Pebbles, Malaysian malt liquor, Chinese toothpaste, and Jell-O shot (singular), and Aaron for the rides, bus instructions, game store visit, and sex shop recommendations. See you guys soon!

Some final points:

1. San Franciscans think they invented Trader Joe's. Wrong, fuxors!
2. When you tell your typical San Franciscan that you're looking to move from LA, they nod knowingly. When you tell them that you actually like LA a lot: barely-restrained incredulity.
3. Mass Transit > driving all the fucking time.
4. SF Weekly < LA Weekly.
5. SF weather > LA weather, sort of.
6. Urban environment with copious amounts of free wireless networks = good!
7. Urban environment with copious amounts of babes walking around = good!

OK, I'm done.
Hehe.. ok one more:

all your name are belong to us

language shit is interesting - thats what jp's mom does, ya? here's our names:

ERIC
Usage: English, French
Pronounced: ER-ik (English), er-EEK (French)
From the Old Norse name Eiríkr, derived from ei "ever" and ríkr "ruler". Danish invaders first brought the name to England. A famous bearer was Eiríkr inn Rauda (Eric the Red in English), a 10th-century navigator and explorer who discovered Greenland.

for both our jons:
JOHN
Usage: English, Biblical
Pronounced: JAHN
English form of Johannes, which was the Latin form of the Greek name Ioannes, itself derived from the Hebrew name Yochanan meaning "YAHWEH is gracious".

AARON
Usage: English, Biblical
Pronounced: ER-un
From the Hebrew name Aharon which is most likely of unknown Egyptian origin. Other theories claim a Hebrew derivation, and suggest meanings such as "high mountain" or "exalted". In the Old Testament Aaron was the older brother of Moses and the first high priest of the Israelites.

MICHAEL
Usage: English, German, Czech, Biblical
Pronounced: MIE-kul
From the Hebrew name Miyka'el which meant "who is like God?". This was the name of one of the seven archangels in Hebrew tradition and the only one identified as an archangel in the Bible. In the Book of Revelation in the New Testament he is portrayed as the leader of heaven's armies, and thus is considered the patron saint of soldiers. This was also the name of nine Byzantine emperors and a czar of Russia.

dennis comes from:
DIONYSOS
Usage: Greek Mythology
Pronounced: dee-o-NOO-sos
From Greek Dios meaning "of Zeus" combined with Nysa, the name of a legendary mountain. In Greek mythology Dionysos was the god of wine, revelry, fertility and dance. He was the son of Zeus and Semele.

ARTHUR
Usage: English, Welsh Mythology
Pronounced: AHR-thur
The meaning of this name is unknown. It could be derived from British art "bear" combined with viros "man", or it could be related to Irish art "stone". Alternatively it could be related to an obscure Roman family name Artorius.

RUDOLF
Usage: German, Dutch, Scandinavian, Polish, Czech, Hungarian, Slovene
Pronounced: ROO-dahlf (English)
Derived from the Germanic elements hrod "fame" and wulf "wolf". This was the name of rulers of the Burgundy, the Holy Roman Empire and Austria.

RYAN
Usage: Irish, English
Pronounced: RIE-an
From a surname which was originally derived from an Irish first name which meant "little king" (from Irish rí "king" combined with a diminutive suffix).

Ok, i'm bored. :) Intersting shit though. So, the action team has the ever-ruler, couple of yahweh-lovers, a high-mountain, someone with a god-complex, zeus-mountain, bear-man, wolf-fame, and my favorite, the "little" king! :) Fuck - i need to go to bed now.

hehe...

Leive you rude! =D

by that definition

name: Hay - ree
HAI mUsage: ChineseMeans "sea" in Chinese.
RE mUsage: Egyptian MythologyPronounced: RAYVariant spelling of RA

Or combined
Hayree mUsage: Very Hairy, see "Rudy"
PWN'D!
I got screwed this week in the nfl pool - so far im 8-6 with one game going on now and tomorrows game - underdawg city this weekend! FUCT!

dont make me waste my time jael :

HALEIGH f
Usage: English (Modern)
Pronounced: HAY-lee
Variant of HAYLEY

from some site called "behind the name" - it's a common spelling crack-o. art, u should name her hayree. kidding!

also from that site:
HAYLEY f
Usage: English
Pronounced: HAY-lee
From a surname which was originally derived from the name of a town in England (meaning "hay clearing" from Old English heg "hay" and leah "clearing").
Pickem = teh brutal

All kinds of underdogs winning and whatnot. (Plus, I suck)

Yay for my RAIIIIIIDERS winning today! That always makes for a happy Art.

I like Hailey too.. dunno, will have to convince the wifey to go back (was our original pick before the whole "lee" family name thing started up).

Edit: Hay Eric.. any chance of changing the FFL league to include partial points? Or is it too late to modify? I think it at least makes things a little more interesting when every run/catch/throw makes a difference. No biggie, just something that I think makes it more fun.

RAIDERS WIN! WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

=]

~O.
Since it's international pirates day

I vote the name "YAAR.... Hailey me timbers!" as her name. I think that would be quite subtle and put some hair on her chest. You do want that don't you?

Added: Rudy, by your spelling, the name would be pronounced HAY- LAY, after SLEIGH. I dunno. I personally like Hailey. Howlie's like a good nickname. But I would add an S to the beginning. I kinda like Shailey.

Eyreick and fellow fflers:
It'll be tight either way.. Aaron brooks rocked today with NO, but Deuce is hurt (my first round draft pick) and hopefully not out for the entire season, Doh! So I noticed Art made a move to get rid of his kicker... that's smart, and obvious move for most "experienced" FFLers. So I gotta get rid of my kicker and get back my running back. Hey, Dibs on my guy. No one take it, seeing that I wouldn't have got rid of him, if I knew I could drop my extra kicker.

I'm Good At Fantasy Hockey!

So far for these day games, I am 2-9 in the pickem.....

And Marshall Faulk ran for like 20 yards and RECIEVED for 21 in the STL loss....

I think you are going to KICK MY ASSorz this week Johnny!

Also, whereas I am 2-9 so far, I think Ryan is 9-2, we almost picked opposite...

Haylie
or
Howlie

fuckin rams - no good jerks!

my god-daughter's name is spelled: HALEIGH - so, that spellin' gets my vote! :)

Football is the best thing EVAR.

Hey, let's have a poll on how to best spell my daughter's name, shall we? We're having a bit of indeciveness about it.. so, have at it:

Hailey
Haylee
Haelee
Halee
Hailee
Haley
Haylie
Hailie

Or, any combination thereof.

I think I'm leaning towards Hailey, but Michelle sort of likes Haylee (Lee is a family name.. but I dunno about the spelling myself)

Decisions, decisions!

Yarr!

Hey guys! Don't forget that it's International Talk Like a Pirate Day!
