You're on! I will log onto Skype at 9:00 or shortly thereafter. SEE YOU ON THE PITCH!
Jon - I'm still in Redondo with my parents at our new house. Been out all day since this morning, but I'm down for a game tonight if you're gonna be online. it's about 6:30ish, gonna have dinner out with my parents in a little bit, but we'll be back in the hotel room by 8ish to 9ish. Log onto your skype account so we can chat online. I have Jonbot10000, but mine is jonnyrockt.

| NNI

(New Nmonkey Island)

My take on it is similar to yours on the new Sam n' Maxes I think. It's solid, it's fun, it's consistently amusing with one or two LOLs, I enjoyed playing it and don't regret buying the full season a bit, but it's not filled with classic moments like the original games. It reminds me of the third and fourth games if you played those. If you really want to revisit Guybrush, LeChuck &c then go for it. Otherwise you can just come over to my house and play it on my computer sometime after school.

| r.a.g.e.

ruin all giani's entertainments

That's my new motto.

Just txt me when you want to play eric, I'm not gonna mess with skype until games are actually setup and about to go down. I'm free today till around 3 then I'm gone for the night. Sunday I'm around after the morning I think. During the week, 10pm-ish.

I got some discount msbux so going on a buying spree. I got Battlefield 1943 which is basically just multiplayer BF42 greatest-hits but redone in the Bad Company engine (destructible buildings, etc.) It's fun! Retails for $15, my skullduggery means I probably paid 10 or something. Dumb-shooter fun.

Next week is starts a string of rad looking games plus the remake of Monkey Island which I'll probably get. Jon, hows the new game? I'm thinking about getting it. The Sam n Max's were cool but I didn't LOVE them. Didn't hate 'em either.
Isn't your nephew just like two years old though? Would he really mind if you went down and celebrated his birthday a different weekend?

Anyway, between the two of us, besides next weekend, that leaves the following weekend (the 25th) for either Man-Con, getting together at my place, or the Assault on Aptos. What about you Ja-el?

And oh yeah, Ja-el, call me when you want to set up a game. I think I'm going to actually try and leave the apartment this morning but I will be back by late afternoon. You don't have to call me though if your chronic biyatchitis is acting up, we'd all understand. Pretty soon your SturmGruppen is gonna be the LoseGruppen.

That's right, I went there... I took your team name and perverted it.
As far as Man-Con goes, I don't think anything would prevent me from attending Man-Con for the weekends of 25th or the 1st. The weekend of August 7 is a no go for me. I will be in LA LA land for my Nephew's B-Day.

eLzar: Hey. I bought the Orange Box in January for my PC. I confess that is the last PC game I bought. The rest of the games have been for Xblox. I'll try and pick a BB copy this afternoon when I am back from the Garden.

Friday, July 10, 2009

Yeah, well, I was gonna be Beastmen until you stole that shit out from under me, so thanks a lot, dick!

As far as Man-Con goes, I'm good for either of the next two weekends, and the weekend starting August 7th. After that things get hazy. If it looks like we will not do it until late Aug/Sept then I vote we find a day to get together and do some D&D or other gaming bullshit. Storming the beaches at Aptos is a possibility.

| Oh, It's ON!

Day 1 Matches:

Dino Dudesss (Rudy/Lizardmen) vs. BC Kislev 2009 (Eric/Chaos)
Shadows Over Burlingheim (Jon/Skaven) vs. SturmGruppen (Johnny/Orcs)

Schedule and play anytime boys! Not gonna lie, with company like Orcs, Chaos, and Lizzies (nipples), the poor Skaven will have their hands, and coffins, full this season!

I'm sure there will be some entertaining blogs to follow...

Before we get started, I vote for the following rules:

1) Kill everything. Foul the crap out of everyone, gang up on the star players when possible, put the hurt of hurts down on everything. Destroy without remorse.

2) Remember that sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you.

3) Laugh at your misfortunes! (I am looking at you, Eric.)
Eric - added on. It's weird because I thought I already did that 2 days ago. Maybe it expired...

Just got to Redondo and saw our new house, very nice! It was an 5 hour drive, not so bad, and only had some serious traffic near wilshire (no surprise!). It's a spanish florentine design with redwood kitchen floors, granite, all that, except it's in the gang part of manhattan beach. Inside joke. It's really nice, and the area is nice too. I like our new house, but maybe not as much as the old manhattan or hermosa house.

| Number One

1) Johnny. Get your team application in!

2) Hmm. Might need to push back ManCon a week or so. Leslie is having HUGE two week accreditation process happen at her school next week and the following week. Depending on what happens she may need to go in this next weekend to work so it would probably be better that we push it back at least a week, or re-schedule for sometime in August?

3) Is Enron REALLY going to buy a computer game?

| All right.

Tomorrow. Blood Bowl. Anytime.

WHO AMONG YOU IS MAN OR ELF ENOUGH!?

| Ooops

jr0n ponited out that I may not have announced that yes indeed I am going to be attending (Banjo)Man-Con(Bat-Fuck) II. I guess I forgot to post my definitive.

| Johnny Sparkletts: Makin' Friends

Dear customer,

I tried to deliver water today, but you weren't ready to receive my 5 gallons of liquid love, so I threw the bottle through your window. Since you were unable to do anything about it: I also killed your cat, freshly fertilized your flower beds, wiped boogers on your door knobs and raped your goats. The tactical advantage is mine! Yes! I rule!

That would be hot.

By the way, I like your dirty style of play Ja -El. It shows you mean business, no matter what. Afterall, this is Blood Bowl and not Daisies and High Tea Bowl.

I think jA -eL inspired me to join the ranks of BB jArks.

| Blood Bowl: Makin' Friends

RDub: Here is a link to the system requirements. The kicker is I think your lappy, if it is the same one we have from like 5 years ago, has an Intel based graphics card (which suck) and is not supported. Right click your desktop, select properties, then the settings tab, and look at what is says under display, which is right above your resolution slider. That will tell you what kind of card you have. And now that I think about it, your processor might be a 1.8, which will probably be too low.

This game should not have such hefty requirements for what it is. The coders added a lot of bloat and REALLY should have streamlined the code so the load times are less than 30 - 45 seconds to start a game, and the freakin graphics were a lot less detailed. But it is fun for what it is, which is not a AAA title and probably had the low funding to prove it.

Check and see if Richy Rich's School For Haoles will front a new computer for you! Lappy's are pretty reasonable, and if you are getting your room paid for, you can get a new one for the price of a months rent that your aren't spending! ALL JUST TO PLAY BLOOD BOWL!

PS Jael: Submit your team to the Action Leage! 3 teams just waiting around to start!
I don't see how that's dicking you, since it's a game and I'm trying to win it. It so happens that you screwed up or your game screwed up. Also it was good luck that the ground kicking actually worked because the odds are to roll over the armor value and then a high damage roll. Guess it's fair to have a team that runs ins and outs of circles in peoples tackle zones.

And lastly, there is a button called create a new team. 2 games is not going to make your lizardmen unfucking disposible.

Edit:
Jorn - will be heading to our new house in Redondo this weekend! will contact you when i get back next week.

Rude - I'll be near Redondo bch, so your welcome to stop by my new house if ur in the area, provided you don't try to kill me... =) jk. it's near artesia, near albertsons. Get my number from Jon so i don't have to post it on the blog.

| Oh shit dude

Don't get mad!

I have yet to play a game of blood bowl... the new Monkey Island is pretty fun though. It doesn't match the hilarity of the first two, but it's at least worth a few laughs and the puzzles and fun, if fairly simple so far. Hopefully will get a chance to destroy you, Ja-el AND Aeryk's skanks this weekend.

Ja-el -- Enron is swinging by my place Sunday noon for some gamin'. You are more than welcome to join.
In a tournament, ya go ahead and try and kill my dudes because it's for the benefit of the next ppl who we gotta play - but in the public league you're just dicking me for when I wanna play other teams who arent our friends. So now I got a gimped lizard team. I'll murder all of your players now all of the time in every game we ever play cuz it's for giggles. gggggiiiiggggglllleeeesss.
Two wrong turns make a right turn?

haha! Actually it was all in good fun and I just couldn't resist taking advantage of the situation. At the time I was having so much giggles, I didn't realize lil' Rudy had gone off getting angry or whatever (I noticed he did stop chatting in the text box and he was trying to foul my guys intentionally).

so honestly, ... Egregious or not and hurt feelings aside, I was thinking, ok... I could be a gentleman and just score quickly or... SMASH the puny stinkin' lizard skinks into rat paste, smear it all over the cement bread, and press my advantage so that even an overpowered lizard team can't come back from!

I chose the latter and had lots of fun! Shake hands afterwards of course... =)

Strategically though, that's one of the only ways to beat a lizard team is by injuring all their armor weak skinks. So that would have been my long term strategy anyway, except this was just nicely put in a box and shrink wrapped with a blue ribbon on top.

Man! me and Rudy always has the best MMO fun! Pally vs. Druid! I still ownz!

| Blood Bowel

Rude: That is hilarious. I could totally see Ja -eL exploiting a failed setup so egregiously. I had a healthy chortle at work over your recounting of the episode.

Ry: I'm glad you liked the Pizza. I found the meat pizza quite amusing. That just seems like something we totally would have attempted in high school. Who would have thought pizza could be so entertaining? How goes the ramp up for Hawaii?

D>M>

| Sorry Johnny

I got so angry at Johnny last night playing Blood Bowl. We both signed up for Eric's league but apparently Eric needs to approve us, so we just played a regular game with our other teams. Lizardmen (me) vs Orks (O.riginal R.udy K.illas- Johnny).

I scored the first TD in a few rounds, easy as pie. Skinks running through his tackle zones like no biggie. His big guy failed the bonehead a couple times as well.

So now it's I think round 3 or so and I'm kicking to him. Ok. I get that roll where "defense gets to completely redo their setup" so I'm thinking FUCKING FANTASTIC. I click to a different preset and BOOM, all my guys are off the field in the endzone... what!? Let me try a different preset - BOOM, same shit. FUCK! Now there's 1 min left so I'm frantically trying to manually do it and time is ticking down. I get a bunch of dudes to the fucking line of scrimmage and BAM, time's up and look at that - 3 fucking players on the field, rest of my team is off on the sidelines. 1 big guy, 1 saurus, and 1 fucking skink.

So that sucked enough as it is, then johnny decides "I'm gonna injury all 3 of rudy's guys" and fucking hurts my big guy for the next game and then after that I was constantly down and he kept injuring my players. I think I had 6 guys for most of the 2nd half.

I lost. I was pissed. Fucking Blood Bowl. I'll never use those fucking presets again cuz that was some bullshit. A few of my guys leveled up which is cool and now I've chilled out. The game is still buggy but at least I'm figuring it out early on and can find work arounds. For as fucking uneven the teams were at the end, my skinks were little fucking bastards and held their own as best as they could.

| Hey Eric...

Is there any chance in hell that I can play BB on my lappy? I just purchased 2 gigs but haven't installed them yet. I am dying to play!!!!
Anyone wants me, I'll be on the computer for the next hour or two either playing BB tutorials or the new Monkey Island game (fuck yeah). Shoot me a text if you want to throw down!

| Side Note

If you are gonna go all Jyhad/V:tES on your WoW cards, Jon, I would like to take them off your hands!

Guys at work cracked up at your treatment of the Jyhad cards.
I found both poundrock and erics account. Added both you in. I never see crazy jonbot 1000 anywhere on skype. ever.
For you guys with xbox GOLD memberships, my favortist game in the whole world is on sale this week for 400 points cheap ($5bucks-ish), N+!!!! Love that game so much.

I'll make my leauge team when I get home tonight around 10 and if anyone wants to play, I'll sign into skype, my name there is: poundrock (although I think you can search R*dy Mangual as well.) My coach name is also poundrock. I was thinking of making a Lizardman team, what all are you guys making? There's a way to hack in a Dark Elf team - I guess the info is in there and some of the models but not all. But I think certain moves will glitch so not super reliable yet.

Tuesday, July 07, 2009

Well, I guess I'll have to settle my grudges another time... I didn't manage to actually PLAY tonight (technical difficulties) but at least everything got sorted out to the point where I can get onto Skype, got my team built and loaded and everything patched up. (Basically, the key to getting everything working seemed to be, quit out of all protection applications. Go Windows.)

I'm pretty free tomorrow night, especially from 7:00-9:30. And have a lot of free time this weekend.

| Action League

Is go!

4 teams, until the rest of the AT joins up!

the password is: applesauce

to join, create a team in multiplayer, buy your players etc, and confirm. then view the public league you are in, then quit the league! then you can search for the action league, or by my coach name 'biggdork'. Join the league, and I will approve you and we can get it on!

i think I set up free play matches, so there is no schedule, just once everyone has finished 3 or 6 games each (I'm not sure which I toggled) the league is over!
johnny whats your chat program of choice? I'm down to play whenever I'm home which is right now - I'm on skype or whateva u want
Ja-el... I am setting up a grudge match vs Aeryk now... you're next on my hit list though!
Addendum - Privateer Press is coming out with a Blood Bowl/Adeptus Titanicus lovechild this year. So drool inducing. Mmmmmmmh miniatures...

GRIND!!!

| - I pull a Michael J Fox ala

Secret of My Success and take over ownership of The Action Team Corporation and all its holdings. I fire the entire board and install myself El Presidente for life. From now on we will only play LARP games about mecha, ninja, bondage elves.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to ManCon Dos! But I expect full reports on said LARPing. I can be contacted in the empty office in Eric's attic.

- Speaking of sound business practices. Jon, were you here when Doug was head of the department? He went apeshit-crazy today. He was dropping f-bombs like they had expiration dates and threatening to fire people. A real morale builder all around, very professional.
any1 playing online?
Ya, I agree with your points Johnny. Janky interface and iffy controls, but overall a decent and faithful version of the boardgame. That's all I really want/need with some stuff automated like you said.

Yeah, no$gba is the most barebones emulator out there but the guy actually constantly updates it and knows his shit - it's been king of the hill for a long time now. I have my special cardy-card now so no need for it, but otherwise it's pretty awesome.

| Oh Schnap!

That means we can setup an AT league!

I'll set one up tonight and try to make it straight up from the boardgame!

Awesome! I'm gonna make a Chaos team because I have only played one half of a game with them against Rudy and they were pretty fun!

BTW, Rudy: Using that ROM checker software you mentioned, with some tweaks, worked wonders to verify that my ROM was in fact, intact.

| Totally awesome game - glad i bot it

well.... that's if you like the original game.

My opinions of the whole thing- (don't hack me for it if you don't like it!)
Starting with the Cons:
- a little slow on movement and animation and computer turns (computer has to think like an Apple IIC, --- when it should be running at 2.4 gigaherz! Pentium duo)
Note: on the upside awesome consolidation of all the nitty details of blood bowl, which takes years to calculate, which more than makes up for the time lost on computer turns. -see Pros
- Graphics are good... but not as good as it should be for a 2010 decade game. The graphics are more like back in 2000.
- not enough intuitiveness in controls. The menus are so clustered (but that's because of the complexity of the game) but it took a while to get used to navigating and creating teams/profiles/char/etc. New games are supposed to be roll-over instructions and finely intuitive, IMHO. Generally the older the game, the less intuitive the interface, so this can definitely be improved.

Pros:
- Excellent gameplay - very true to the board game

- Saves a bunch of time - AUTOMATED movement calculations (brilliant), Calculating skill rolls, faction points, building a team, end of the game money calculations, etc.... All this is computerized and fast!

- Nice animations - Once you get used to the klunky keyboard and mouse interface styles, you start to enjoy the nuances of the game much more, and notice the small animation details that would be have been confusing at first amongst all the distractions. Gameplay starts getting faster as well

- Blood bowl with nice graphics - good stuff.

Overall - Good game 8/10 stars

I bot it for 49 bucks... worth it to share some good times. League on!
Johnny prolly ruined my sweatshop onlinekeys business with his bad mouthing, thanks jerk. Yeah, I saw the original thread where this had come up and it was "I work for gamesworkshorp and yo this shit is fucked up we gonna banz u guyz!" Like literally, all fake and janky sounding (like real GW employees at old cons) and then some other guy saying "I run keysite and this is legit forward me 80,000,000 gils- Mayasian Prince." SO, shady all around. Let's see if they block dudes, I know a lot that got keys that way.

The DS version is cool - the touch controls are a little rough and being stuck to that 3/4 perspective is kind of a drag (There's zoom with the bumpers at least). On the other hand, the presentation is really nice, almost better than the PC version as far as tutorials/UI/load-times/in-game manual, etc. It's totally BB on your DS. When I backed up my copy, it was small zipped like 11-20 megs. To test my backups, the only computer emu that's been reliable was "no$gba" but now I don't really need to check, so dunno.

One AWESOME DS game I'm playing and loving right now though is SMT:Devil Survivor. It's interesting and fun! I never played the Persona games or really anything in the SMT brand, but so far it's really drawering me in.

| Don't Buy BB From Celestials!

Don't do it!

http://www.cyanide-studio.com/forumBB/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3393

BTW, how is the DS version, Rudy? When I flew to France to pick mine up, I couldn't get the ROM to run correctly on my computer. The graphics are all janky and mottled to where there is no readable text and really no recognizeable anything! It looks like a NES cart that needs to be ejected and had the contact blown on. I must have compiled it incorrectly. Is it any good? Worth ordering another copy from overseas?

| Man...

Aaron, that pizza thing was fuckin' hilarious. I am still laughing about the no sauce, no cheese, beef bits pizza. And the description cracked me up. Good stuff.
Ah well. We really must play some CoC in the next couple o' years. That game is always a fun time. (I thought of a cool plot for an adventure, actually, but I didn't want you to feel like I was stepping on your turf....)

Anyway I'll watch some A-Team this week and get some ideas together. Do you guys still have your characters from the last time we played? They were almost 3rd level, right? Fuck it, promote 'em. Let's do this.

Oh yeah and wrest control from me? Ha! My business acumen is startling. I understand the orange juice scheme at the end of Trading Places. Anyway, we all know what would happen if you were the only one running this. Game after game of your home-brewed, WWII-themed "Oi Dat's Me Leg" conversions.

| Alas, Andorhal

- I cannot make it this weekend for gaming. I am doing the company retreat thing at my boss' mansion, so no gamin'. But plenty of eating food and schmoozing!

- We are getting hot and heavy into WoW:TCG here at work. The more you play, the better the game gets. (and the more cards you have access to helps). Certainly helps that the two guys here have 80's in the REAL game.

- Now that Jon has it, we are only one player away from an Blood Bowl Action Team League! The private league minimum is 4 teams, so we just need Johnny to pick up a $20 illegally resold copy from some Celestial and hope that eventually the code is not banned, and we can get our game on! Do it!

- Alternatively, pick up the full priced copy and play with us!

- Man-Cthulhu-Con sounds fun, but there is no way in hell that could get a game together and run it all weekend. Or even run a game for an hour.

- I motion to vote on acceptance into the executive board one Jael "Flamin' Hugs" Lee. I offer this individual up to membership on the grounds of his wish to include anything WWII related in the festivities of ManCon. "Aye!" I further motion to transfer all ownership and voting rights of Dean "Bedazzler" PetersOn to me, because I am of more sound mind than he and could better use his voting power for the good of ManCon-kind.

- I like D&D 4th edition.
Thanks for the words of wisdom Enron. Truly Aeryk and I almost came to blows and your cool head and Solomon-like wisdom has prevailed. I will bring a venereal disease sampler plate to the manvention.

Ja-el... you know what, if we play 4th ed (which I think the other guys would be in favor of), you should come for the whole thing. I realize RPGs of yore did not hold your interest, as I recall because of all the downtime and mapping and boring shit, but 4th ed D&D is truly a different beast and I honestly think you would enjoy it. It is really focused on combat, and running fights on a board, and is very smartly and tightly designed and also very well-balanced with lots of fun effects that move things around the board, support teamwork and do crazy shit. I think you would enjoy playing it as a tactical game.

I am also willing to make the following concessions:

1. Descriptions will only be of awesome shit (arterial blood spray, tits, etc.)
2. I will base the plot off of an A-Team episode or something awesome

Blood Bowl update: I has it.

| Pizza my way

We can order pizza one of two ways at Man-con:

Pizza A

or

Pizza B (option #2 please)

D>M>
Have fun at your mens-con and Jon txt me if you ever feel like some BB and I'll crush your teams and your spirit.
40 flaming ninjas would be epic indeed! I would invoke the Advanced 2nd ed D&D rules in building your own castles and henchmen. I think a 60th level master ninja entitles to at least that, and continuing the character I made in Junior high, I have a bag of unlimited holding, and can pull out the castle and henchmen at will! I can torch your house and every house on the friggin block.

Free beer would be great. It seems Man-con has a good tradition, so it should continue on. Since I live pretty close, how about you guys play RPGs and then when you guys get bored or want a change of venue, just give me a call and I'll go hang out on the 2nd day or something. If not, we can also make another con some other time dedicated to board games and painting WWII miniatures! yazzar!

| Man Con II

While Influenza has been ruled out, that still leaves Syphilis and Tuberculous as options for Man-Con fun. I hope you all like dementia and bloody long biscuits, 'cause that's what I'm bringing to the table.

Man-Con gaming dedication? 0.5% voting interest you say? Deciding vote eh? I say we immolate Ja-El's character 40+ times with each of our flaming, bear-hugging Ninja characters. Either that, or we play RPG one night/day and some other shit the other night/day. What say you?

Also, I am 90% sure I do not have anything going that on that weekend. I will have to double check with the missuz to see for sure.

Oh and Ja-El, underwear is optional at Man-Con since, well you know, "we're all guys here!" Let the masturbatory celebration begin.

D>M>

| Bonus Manliness

As a possible adjunct, sneak preview or extension of Man-Con: I will have my apt. to myself this upcoming weekend, as the lady-friend will be visiting the folks. Would any of you guys like to get together and have a bonus games day/days up here then? I have numerous extra blankets and a luxurious queen-sized air mattress so an extended gaming "sesh" is not out of the question.

Ah July, the month of gaming.

I'm 60% through my blood bowl download. Fools WILL be taken out.

| Man-Con

Fuck that, I like role-playing! I vote "nay." With each of us possessing 49.75% ownership of the corporation, that means that sweet Enron, with his paltry .5% stake, will decide. Who would've thought things would come to such a dramatic impasse!?

Seriously... I loved the focus on one game. Think about it. 4th ed! Call of Cthulhu! WFRP! Anything your heart desires to play, we can play!

| Man-Con.

Well, now that ManCon has jumped the shark and become jaded with the success of 33% more applicants over last years attendance, as member of the executive board I nominate a shift of fundamental proportions to the festivities that will allow ANY game to be played at ANY time by ANY one person(s).

I think this makes good business sense and will allow for future expansion of ManCon. All those in favor, say "aye", and all those opposed, say "nay"!

"Aye"

While success in low-drama and high-alcohol will be continued, I declare ManCon to be a "no influenza zone" and abolish all sickness for the duration of ManCon. As an executive director I have the power and the right to declare such without a vote.

| Man-Con

Man-Con is a tradition started by Enron, Aeryk and myself last year, nominally its purpose is to celebrate our birthdays. It takes place at an Embassy Suites near the Kubla hotel. We choose one role-playing game and just play that for the whole weekend. Last year we played 4th ed D&D. The idea being that 1) role-playing is awesome 2) it's hard to schedule it without a specific date for it 3) it's impossible to do at Kubla due to all the other things going on (although Denis made a good stab at it this year).

Pros:
- Very low-drama and chill compared with Kubla
- Focused on one game the whole time (with periodic breaks)
- The hotel has free booze from 5-7

Cons:
- We play RPGs, which I know you're not crazy about....
I'm a new registrant.

where is manwhore-con usually at?
I could swing that. What should we play?

| Man-Con.

2009.

Same place.

July 17 - 19.

Any takers?

I will try to not get the flu this time.
