Sorry Dood

I thought you were being a funny Rudy and talking about sunday Blood Bowl, when I really asked about saturday Blood bowl, so I thought you were saying "Yeah, I'll TOTALLY be there on sunday..."

So, really, Denis and I played on saturday, and sunday I am out of commission with a Supar Bowl party with the family and non-gaming friends...

Sry for the confusion dood...

sunday blood bowl? ok. I'll be there. Lemme know the time and ill come by for at least a few games. ok kids, you ready?

OH OH. Elrick probably already owns it, but I just played the demo for the ww2 game "call of duty" and it friggin ROCKS! I know i know - ANOTHER ww2 game? Ya, but this one honestly feels kinda different and its pretty fun. single player was at least. Ya, its been out for a few months, so if im way behind the times with this one, oops. Also, a friend suggested I check out a game named "PAC MAN." Hmmm - funny name, we'll see what kinda madness this is!

:\
Yep, I see your two cents and raise ya

Send me the email and I'm assuming there is a saved file that will be attached? for the DBA software or you'll have to clue me in on the PBEM program you'd be using. And youre probably right. But in some cases, WYSIWYG. We'll see. And yay! Miniature Blood bowl! I'll play... Oh... wait... Jerk! guess can't make it for that one. =d

2 Cents

I think there is probably something more to DBA than that, I'm only saying that because it is reportedly the most popular and widely played set of historical miniatures rules out there. When you download the game, or maybe it is when you buy 10 games, you get 3 free games with a "Mentor", or as I like to call them "Someone Who Can Kick Your Ass And Then At Least Tell You Why". I'm assuming that if we were to ever play these people, we would see some tactics that are not initially apparent when playing ourselves, which it seems is all that either of us have done so far. I believe we can play over email, so I'll try that right now, I'm assuming that you would be using your aol account?

Anyhoo, Ryan and Denis are in for a saturday Blood Bowl Mini-Tourney in honor of the Supar Bowel, anyone else interested, Rudy? We will be playing with miniatures rather than Java, unless there are enough requests to play Java over miniatures. Just thought I would throw that out there.
On matters of sauted penis...

Well looks like the Germanians finished up the trial of the cannibal penis eater. More details here.

Back to the fun stuff

DBA revisited

Last week, I played the computer version of DBA with myself and experimented with a few scenarios. The combat system is unimpressive so far. The movement is simple, and the combat is rather linear. The object it seems is to get as many combined units lined up against the enemy front and flanks. I guess that was the combat back in those days, but it's not too exciting in a miniature version where there's no actual shrieks, blood or lopped heads.

Anyhow, I'm gonna paint those mini's i bought.

Peace out
Jah Knee: Do you like Sherlock?

Sherlock to put these nutz in your mouth. Ahhh Tea baggin' is great. Yeah or something. Anyway, I would be most interested in a little grubbing and passive football watchin' while we sit on our duffs. Maybe a little gamin' too.

My eyes suck. Ever get gooey eye matter. I get that shit all the time. It drives me crazy. I think I have to go see an eye ball doc.

Gots to go

Here's one, Jon, Do you lkie CD's or Ntus?

Wait... you like Ntus? damn... that article was pretty cool. I never knew that. Although just the other day, I was commenting on how the computer "chinese" text is quite different than the written text. A friend pointed out that she doesn't actually read the text, just looks at the shapes. It never occured to me that this may apply as well. neat.

Also, Jon I heard somewhere Sierra is coming out with some "revamped" Liesure suit larry series. I think I heard it on tech TV or something.

-Ayeric - which genius came up with that book idea?? hehe. Guess I'm not the only one. That'd be good reading material for sure. My current inspiration comes from an independent newsletter at www.findprofit.com. It's maintained by 2 experienced analysts who does preliminary research on stocks. So far their works have been wildly accurate, detailed and quite brilliant. Hey, I guess they make a living on it (a good one i might add) They have a free 30-day trial if u want to see them in action. On another note, so when's the blood bowl rematch!? Married, Not married, it don't matter. Ur ass will still be handed and polished. RUDAY - I want to kick some Lil Lebowskis' urban achievers too. Dont mess wid teh Jesus!

P.S: ALL (but really just enron -) Doing anything for Superbowl sunday? If not, pizza and beer on me.
if you, blah blah blah blah, then go ahead now!

Now, IM gonna have that stupid song in my friggin head! I like that misspelled thing arron - I was able to read it! OH SIHT!

-the Homestarmy

PS - I swear to gawd, the funniest cartoons on the internet EVEr are the Strong bad emails from homestarrunner - SO FUCKING BRILLIANT ("Brilliant," said the young british lad in response to the rope girl.)

My iTunes randomization seems a little suspect as well. I don't know. He dulls.

Aeryk--yes Knights is out for le smelly Xbox. (Actually, it came out for the Xbox first.) I've heard it's rockin'.

These are the video games I've bought in late 2003-2004:

--Zelda: Wind Waker
--Dance Dance Revolution Ultramix
--Dungeons & Dragon "keel da" Heroes
--Zelda: Four Swords (for GBA)
--Mario & Luigi Superstar Adventure.

I'll buy Knights soon. Damn, that's too many games. OK, listen up, here's my vow: I'm not buying any more games until July!
Ah yes the wide world of spelling. My friend...

In related news, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at an Elingsh uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae we do not raed ervey lteter by it slef but the wrod as a wlohe.

Jon and Ry: I figured that would both entertain and piss you off... It's an from an article about misspelled words in on-line bidding. I guess some people will look for misspelled bids intentionally and bid low. No one else sees the bid because they are searching for items with the correct spelling. Then they will turn around and put it back up for auction with the correct spelling and make a killing on the resale. Check it out.

Rudy: I keep having a tough time getting into Quicksilver too. I will proabbly try it again soon. I am just hoping that it is a slow opener.

Ry: I have three words for you. "I'm Feelin' It!" Fuck! That sucked. Screw you all for constantly reminding me to sing the song in my head for 5 days straight. Jerks.

Elrock: I am not sure about the iPod, but I know that the algorithm used by WinAmp is configurable. They call it the "Morph Rate" which is basically an Intelligent Agent they tries not to make sudden change ups in style. I am not sure what they use for the determination of song types, but basically it changes the level of randomness. The Faster the morph, the more random. Maybe the iPod has something similar. It could also just be a bad random number generation program.

All: Unemployment does not rule. I am going stir crazy.

You guys are da best. You are even better than burger king.
Technical Analysis...

...check it out Jael. There are MANY book on the subject and it has nothing to do with emotion, only odds, and human nature... other people's human nature that is, as well as the nature of markets. I learned about aspects of it with regards to trading futures, but the principles apply to all markets. I have a good book I can lend you, if you care. I also have a book called the Predictors, which is something like what you are talking about, a company that created a program that let them see into the future of markets by using algorithms and stuff.

- Also, Ryan is a turd for surfing while I work. It looked kinda iffy this morning as I drove past the surf, sounds like it made a turn for the better?

- I like you guys.

- I wanted to buy Knights of the Old Republic and I found out that my PC can't run it! Eek! It needs a 1Gig processor and I only have a 900! Oh no! Is it supposed to come out for the XBox Jon?

- 10 Random songs on my iPod:
1) Stupid Kid - Alkaline Trio
2) Still Life - Iron Maiden
3) Keep 'em Coming - Alkaline Trio
4) Caught Somewhere in Time - Iron Maiden
5) Youth Gone Wild - Skid Row
6) The Prophecy - Iron Maiden
7) If You Leave - OMD
8) Take Me Home - Phil Collins
9) Astro Zombies - Misfits
10) Hold It Down - Greyboy

... let's see there are 1377 songs on my iPod and of these 10, 2 Alkaline Trio and 3 Iron Maiden, what are the odds? Speaking of algorithms, I wonder why there is such a preference towards these bands? I know there are a lot of sogs on the iPod, but still, that seems high. Aaron?

- I like blogging, but I have been busy, my apoloqies!
coincidentally...

I was actually going to bring up something similar to what ry ry had said. A friend of mind told me he saw somewhere on the news that there is this guy in hong kong who devised an algorithm that calculates the odds on horseraces based on various factors, such as weight, previous victories, odds etc. Apparently he gets pretty good odds in his favor and has already made millions.

My THOUGHT is rather not for horses (which I think would be quite hard to predict its health per se), I think this can be done for stocks, and would be a great project. I think this is largely possible, because if you really break down the market there are several logical factors that drives it. The market has to act logical because no one is crazy enough to invest in an illogical market. (1st assumption)

The second more important assumption, is the premise buying low selling high. But lets take that to another level. At some price, it is inevitable not to buy a stock. If for example, Yahoo is at 5 dollars, based on its current earnings, company financials, and all factors combined etc etc, logically you would buy it at that price. Conversely at some price you would sell it, lets say 40.

What Im saying is, devise an algorithm that takes the emotion out of trading, and you have a proven investment concept over the long term.

J.
Just thought I'd mention: I am reading this really good book called "Bringing Down the House." No, it has nothing to do with the Queen Latifa/ Steve Martin movie of the same name. Its a non-fiction about 6 MIT students who devise this really clever way to count cards and bilk Vegas casinos out of millions. They make it seem as though it is really possible even though you probably have ot be VERY smart. And the writing is amazing. I strongly suggest it.

I was surfing today and was having an amazing time. Except, I kept singing "Two Princes" by the fucking Spin Doctors over and over and over again in my head. I really hate that song. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

orange u glad i didn't say bananar?

Ya, that's one hell of a line!

I want to see the Butterfly Effect! That's the movie that ripped off one of Jon's storys. DICKS!

So how is everyones jobs going? My work is pretty repetitive - still way better than the last job, but it ain't nothing to get excited about.

Reading: Quicksilver - Oh man, this is a tuff one. I'm about 80 pages into it and its PRETTY uneventfull. It puts me to sleep everynight. I hope it gets exciting soon. "Put down that beaker Sir Issac Newton!" Hmm.

I want to eventually get to the new Stephen King Gunslinger book, Wolves of Calla. Its probably pretty bad but I'm SURE easier to get through than Quicksilver.

I'm also reading "Guide to the new Music Industry: Handbook for Hell!" Yar! Gnarly x-treme title! Its actually a pretty good explanation of the music industry. Interesting read - I'd read some books like this in the past that were BAD and dated, but this one is pretty current and pretty well written - a lot of interviews. One interesting quote from some music industry guy was "We are as an industry trying to sell black and white televisions to an audience that wants color TV." What the guy means and what a lot of the book is about is how the music industry FUCKED UP and really really missed the boat with the internet, and mp3s, and this and that. It's really interesting because, no one has been able to figure out a new way of distributing music and making money at the same time. Comeon - Itunes is cool, but u can still basically get what u want from Kazaa and stuff like that. Also, I read somewhere else (or maybe someone was talking about it) but theres a lot of biz going to dvds over music cds, because people percieve better value in owning a movie with all the extras etc for the same price of a music cd. Whatever - its all fucked up and wierd. Interesting times, huh? Maybe u guys can brainstorm and figure out this puzzle. DO IT!

That Ben Stiller Show dvd has on the 1st episode that skit, the last stand of Yakoff SMirnoff - oh man, its fuckin funny. (Guy gets up and walks away in audience) "Oh, look! A Defector! Heh... Heh... :( "

That is a long line

When I was in Japan one of my host brothers was a computer geek. We played some games on his machine, but the OS and manufacturer were completely unfamiliar to me. It definitely wasn't a Windows or Mac machine.

I bet by now Microsoft is big over there, though.

I'll have to check out that Michael Gondry DVD. My favorite on the Spike Jonze DVD is the Fatlip video... make sure you check out the Fatlip documentary too, it's really good.

Jeeez. November 30th

Don't these people have aything better to do? I can understand why the young people were there, but what were the couple of old folks who looked like they should be at the park or something, doing in line? and then there was the guy who got in at the end of the line... that sucked.

I love the big boxes of altoids... mmmm altoids

J
Fuckin-A

That's a pretty long friggin' long line! FUCK! Ya, don't they have Macs in Japan anyways? Ya, what is the main operating system in Japan? Is it Microsoft or somethin completely different? Toast - mmmm. Good.
Wow...were they giving away free iPods or something?!

So, I've just finished a stint of 18 hour days over the past week, getting in applications for jobs and 'Junior Research Fellowhips' - none of which I ever expect to hear about ever again, but hey, I like printing out 45 pages of application material for a stinking job, it's great!

And, no, I haven't applied for the J.R.R. That's what I'm Tolkien about Fellowship either!... though someone I know did text my phone that from the Return of the King, which is almost as funny as actually yelling it out.
Man, I'm cooked, but hey, I've got a whole weekend ahead.... oh, wait, that's what just went by...
Ah.... Nutz! CD's Nutz to be precise.

Glad you and Leslie had such a rockin' time, Elrock! Welcome home. As for the Valentine's Day Con... Sure, I'll be there! Ok, back to work... er... I mean... HAVING FUN! WHOOHOO!
