heh... "feedin the ducks"

I'm planning to keep most of the stuff I have here, either in storage or my dad will take over my lease in the meantime, since he still needs a place to stay. I think that works out. My trip will be roughly a 3 month evaluation period to see if I feel it's the right job to take. And luckily, I'm pretty mobile, in terms of finances and assets. I don't have any long term mortgages, monthly obligations, or wife/baby that I have to contend with, other than my monthly rental for my apartment. My contract is up and I have been paying on a month to month basis and so opting out is not a huge problem. The nice thing about all this is that when I move to the phillipines, I'll be staying at the company rental house which is a place where all the company visiting employees stay. That means I won't have to worry about the rent and bills for the next 3 months. The downside to that is, I'm not sure how comfortable company housing is. My guess is that it won't be too comfortable.

Yeah, I feel you aaron. I've been the victim of a few similar job interview cancellations. And the hit rates for me has been really flawed. In fact, I hate it when it seems like they really like you and then you never hear back or they end up hiring someone else. It just happened to me again 2 weeks ago. I don't think i've ever been highly recommended by anyone though, so in that aspect, you have a legs up.
As a curious side note to my travels yesterday...

When I exited the jetway in Oakland airport there were two officers with K-9s at the gate. They were sniffing around the gate reception counter. Kind of a bit unnerving.

Good cheesesteaks in the Phillipines? Hmmm... Suspect.

BTW johnny, some of the Filipinos/Filipinas can be very political in the work environment. Well at least in America they can be. Be mindful of that. As Jon said, stay on their good side and everything will be alright.

O: Thanks a lot for inviting me a long on the Road trip. I had a lot o fun. Lots of laughs, beer, and bad food.

I hear they make a great cheesesteak in the Phillipines. Seriously... wow, Johnny. That's a big change, and it's kinda scary, but when you mentioned it a while ago it sounded like a good move for you. You'll definitely be more challenged over there! Just don't get on the bad side of the local women, I hear filipinas pack a mean temper. They like to "feed the ducks" if you know what I mean. Maybe that's what makes the cheesesteaks so good?
Updates

After spending a little time on Mapquest, I figured out our mileage. 1450 miles plus or minus 10 miles. Sweet.

Check out www.badgerbadgerbadger.com and www.zombo.com. They were both a hit on the road trip. Three cheers to Art and Eric for the bizarro websites.

Go Cat Go

You finally are pulling the trigger on that one. You say you are going for only a few months. In that case are you still going to keep your apartment and plan on returning to the states? So the theme of this spring is major life changes I guess. I hope it all goes well for you Johnny. Jon and I will have to have a send off party for you later this month. Give us a heads up as you firm up your plans.

In other news I lost the chance to interview for a job tommorow. I had an internal contact that was asked to recommend someone and he recommended me. I spoke with the hiring manager last week and she sounded excited to interview me and then I got a call yesterday stating that they had filled the position internally. Boo.. On the other hand I have a phone interview tomarrow. Yeah! Although I would call it a poor trade off. I would rather the internal contact in-person interview than a telephone interview for a craigslist job listing. Oh well.

OK. Let's see.. what's fun, who's gamblin, and what's cookin bitterly apparently?

On: Art
Glad ur trip turned out so well and Art is fully rooted in Las vegas. Hope things sprout there for you and your new career path works out.

On: Jael's career path
As for my new career path, it's about 100% definite now, I'll be going to Manila at the end of the month, Apr 2-3 for a few months laboring at my uncles Electronics factory. Mainly I'll be doing gruntwork, in sales, but for me, it presents, on one hand, an opportunity for future growth without dealing with the Politics en masse, and on the other hand, it'll allow me to fly to Singapore (a 4 hour flight') to try to help grow the budding pharmacuetical business that we're trying to build. If things don't work out, and I can't find my place in my uncles factory, then i'll probably be back. No matter what, it's going to be a challenge, and a lot of hard work. I really wanted to get an MBA, and despite getting a 700 on my GMAT, i guess i'll have to stave that off, I hope, not forever.

On WOW:
So yes, I'm a 50th paladin, unbelieveble, the amount of time and effort put into this game. As Eric wisely fortold, it's a sickness, and difficult to quit.. am trying to slow down with the addiction, though slow. It's a whole different game at 50+, with raids and raid defense. You can spend 4 hours just PVPing. Rudy and Jon has started new characters in Firetree and I think Jon is somewhat trying to start a new guild although it doesn't seem to be too motivated to get things done. But regardless of how much I play, I don't think I would ignore friends request, such as signing charters or what not, and I certainly don't get pissed when I go to another server for ten minutes. Odd impression, despite doing just that (jumping to other server, waiting at brill). hmmm. However call it wierd or maybe i'm an ass, but it bothers me when someone doesn't understand the basic differences between "waiting" and "making someone wait".

So just to add in a "little filler" on the conversation before that slide:

Allodin: Hey, where are you? what's taking so long?
Allodin: I've been here for like 20 min
Torego: Oh, I was just finishing up some stuff, I'm coming now.
Allodin: Dude... I'm going back to the other server, just come get me when ur at brill......
Torego: I'll be there in 3 min
Allodin: you should have been here 3 min ago

On Kubla:
So, Kubla is in May, and I would like to see some people run events, it'll be different but in a cool way. We can cause obsenenities and a huge rukus and not get busted. Also to embezzle the game prizes. I hope i get to make it back for that....

On Paintball:

It's amazing how much this "sport" has proliferated. There are stores everywhere now, and THREE magazines or more on the magazine shelves. Kinda cool... I still got my phantom pump gun.
Road Rash

Well, to answer your question Jon, unfortunately a million dollars was not exchanged or offered. It was a great trip, although the ravages of the road weariness has definately hit me. One too many nights in hotel beds sleeping off too much beer and eating shitty food. Fast food, Blah!

The weather was great, cool, but sunny. Idaho... Wow, nothing there. Miles and miles of arid plains. Northern Utah is a bit boring too. Southern Utah was really cool in parts. Lots of terraneous maximus. Las Vegas, a bit depressing. I mean just arid, smoggy, with a million shades of color, all in the beige spectrum. Urban sprawl by definition.

Oh hey, you guys lived! That's nice! I've been hoping somebody else would post so the blog wouldn't just be plastered with my ugly mug. Anyway, not a ton has been happening with me lately. I am spending my time desperately trying to avoid poverty and playing World of Warcraft. Oh! And I taught my roommate Scott Space Hulk. We've played Torch the Toilet like 4 times so far. Man, that is a phenomenal board game. I honestly believe it's one of the best-designed games of all time. It's so tense!

As far as WoW goes, I've mostly given up on poor out-leveled Borst and am concentrating on my Firetree shaman, Torego. That character has really reinvigorated my interest in the game and I played him a ton this weekend. Rudy's also got an undead priest on that server up to 16th level or something. Jael got his Paladin up past 50! He has a warrior on Firetree but has been focusing on his Paladin. (And he gets super-pissed if you drag him away from it for ten minutes, oh, shit!)

Also the weather is awesome in San Francisco. I'm looking outside and it's a nice, bright, sunny day. There's this really cool sort of canyon park near my place called Stern Grove and it's a fun place to walk around in nice weather, play with cool dogs, and edge awkwardly past sobbing couples.

Oh, and also! My Game of Thrones and Twilight Imperium games have been confirmed for KublaCon so Hobbiton, it's on! Sign up for either of those using the links below. I'll probably tell my gaming group about them as well (at least the TI game) so I don't get a bunch of random jarks in there.

Did you guys do any gambling in Las Vegas? More importantly, did any creepy rich guys offer Art a million dollars for a weekend with his wife? Or offer Aaron a million dollars for a weekend with Eric? What I want to know is, did a million dollars exchange hands for any reason at all?
Upper Deck

The Road Trip of Death is complete, and was a resounding success! Art is now again a proud resident of Las Vegas and I have now been to Idaho as well as Washington and Oregon. Idaho! WTF?!?! Good times were had and despite sleeping and eating conditions that would rival a six night convention, sitting ina car for 8 hours a day, and no female contact for the duration ("lets all go to the lobby"), we have remained friends and I would do it again, I just need a couple of years to recouperate.....

PS No blogging from amyone for the past 6 days?! Sad, just sad. Something other than WoW must have happened to you fellas, right?
