Happy Birthda*BLAM* *BLAM* BLAM* !!!1!one!

On thursday rolled out solo to see a Ted Leo & The Pharmacists show at the El Rey. Fuck, they're really good live. Fuckin' awesome show! Opening bands were kinda weesh:new york - hipster - indie rock bands, but Ted Leo fuckin' killed it. Cop the albums: Shake the Sheets and Hearts of Oak! (Or d/l them Oo) I wasn't super familiar with the older stuff, but it was still a great time. Highly suggested if you guys get a chance to see them live and/or get the cds.

City Of Gyros - Hmm. Think WoW really ruined me for all other MMOs. Played City of Heroes for about an hour today and while it seems pretty cool (and I bet it was insane when it came out) it got kinda boring fast. Which is a good thing though - don't need another WoW addiction. Will give this a casual chance over the 30 day trial. If anything, was $30 bucks and I've spent lot more than that on a typical trip to a bar.

WW2 Online - whoa, is it a lot different? I liked that game ok. I think if I was more a sim-buff I might get into it (with the planes and vehicles) but yeah - it always seemed kinda stiff to me. Guess FPS's got me all jaded on movement for troop based shit. Will check the website later for sure.

News Flash: My Girlfriend Did Not Murder Me for My Birthday

She was being mysterious about what we were going to do. Aaron's theory was that she was going to slit my throat, stuff me in her mattress, and then flee town. Things didn't work out that way, and I can't say that I'm sorry.

Instead we went up to Mendocino, which is a small town on the cliffs near wine country in Northern California (about three hours north of SF). It was my first time north of SF since I was a kid and I really recommend the scenery. Very pretty, picturesque beach town with lots of old houses, old water towers, and weirdly enough lots of free-standing wooden towers. A mage community perhaps? Time will tell.

On the way back we stopped at a few wineries and sampled the free tastings. Naturally this led to us spending (5x) dollars on wine, where (x) is the amount I meant to spend. Actually, the damage wasn't too bad. We got a couple of reds and I also bought this tasty sparking wine (ie, champagne) with the rationale that it would be the perfect excuse for a snooty wine and cheese party. Anyway yeah I'm all snooty now, I like being snooty. Snooty, snooty, snoot snoot.

I also talked her into taking the long way back home, which led through Berkeley, coincidentally near the game store. Ah, if only my relatives knew that I am spending my birthday money on basically the same shit that I spent it on 15 years ago. Actually I think they all still think Dungeons & Dragons has something to do with Satan, they just don't care much 'cause they're all New Agers.

Also I forgot to mention that on my actual birthday we went out with Aaron & ladyfriend to a Moroccan place. I had never had that kind of food before and it was phenomenal. Great meat + belly dancing equals good times. Thanks for coming Enron and say thanks to Eye-May as well. It took the sting out of the hideous beast that is aging. Also, I will get my jacket on Sunday I guess. Then we went out drinking with auxiliary Action Team member Leatherboy for a while.

So, yeah. I didn't go to work today because I felt like complete shit this morning, headachey and coldy. I am starting to feel better though, so I might go out and use some more birthday money on the Firefly box set. And some Depends. They're diapers. Hooray, diapers!

PS Sorry about your kitty Eric. Hope he gets better.

Meh...

Stupid Frat jokers. Didnt you have enough expierence with those guys in El Porto with the whiskey shakes, SDSU (need I say more), and the 15th avenue guys barfing on your windshield. Suxor. Manhattan seems to be more full of that kind of crap. Too many trust fund shitbags. Uggg...

Art those are some sweet picture of your little un'

You know that convention has just been dying a slow agonizing death. Those people over there have no idea how to run a successful convention. No proper advertising. a retarded website (Third retard version). I mean after visiting the Gencons and Kubla, you start to learn how shit should be run. It is a wonder it ever did that good in the first place. I think it worked back in the days when the gaming industry was a much more tightly knit community and word of mouth and flyers at the local shop was how everything worked. Now advertising in industry publications, better event planning, Presence at trade shows, a descent web presence, and a more proactive involvment within the local shops is necessary. It is really sad from the whole childhood memory standpoint. Hopefully GenCon SoCal will continue to grow and become the replacement. Still sad. Boooo...

Sorry to hear about the Kitty Elzar. Hopefully the vet will be able to help out tomorrow. I wonder if the Cat ate something. How old is it? Young cats dont usually get liver failure without a external toxin. Ethylene Glycol maybe? Cats dig that shit and then dont deal so well afterwards. I didnt know cats could get Herpes. I hope all goes well at the Vet.

D>M>
P.S...

Herpes?
Frat guys.. feh.

We had a "crew" of "those guys" move in next door to us up in Washington and one of their partys spilled over into the back alley and then into our side yard.. which just happens to have the intake vent for our central air. And, of course, the "guys" and friends were smoking cigars and cigarettes right under aforementioned vent. Michelle almost went "mamma bear" on them before I sent her out in the car with newborn baby to be somewhere else until the house was cleared out. I really think she was about to kill someone. That, accompanied by the boom-cars at all hours of the morning and night was really freaking old. Yes, and the eight cars blocking access to parking was lame, too.

Time to grow up, fellas, and act like adults.

Sigh.

(sorry for you..)

About kitty.. anytime a cat stops eating, it's damned serious. Your aforementioned "first" vet is an idiot, and I question the validity of their veternary licensing. The liver issues are probably the result of not eating (unless it's the liver itself, of course). Once a cat stops eating for more than a day (which is always a sign of serious illness, FFS, you effing retard vet!), the liver starts having serious trouble processing all the crap being released into their system by the non-eating, hence the jaundice. Try using an eye dropper to at least get some liquids into him, and maybe even blender some food and see if he'll take it by dropper. I'm sorry for you and your kitty. =( Hopefully everything will be cool by tomorrow.
Did I Mention I Live Next to a Frat House?

So, the cool and weird neighbors (Bob and Norma) were evicted by the landlord next door after 17 years so their son could move into the house. The parents are absolute assholes, and while they were at the house for what seemed like weeks, fixing it up, the kid seemed like a nice guy compared to them.

Now that mom and dad are gone, they have had a party at the house friday, saturday, sunday and monday. So far.

Ugh. It's like being in SDSU again. Yesterday, they had 7 cars parked on the street, today 6. They all wear a uniform of light polo shirt, light cargo shorts, ballcaps, and flip flops. Though now that the ladies are over, they have no shirts. but they do ahve a keg. Which is nice.

And my new cat, Douglas, not only has herpes, but he has jaundice now, and might have some liver problems. The asshat vet at the VCA in Hermosa Beach said that his 180 degree behavior change, and stopping of eating, and total lethargy was due to teething. So, I sat on that bullshit for a day and then took him to a REAL vet this holiday monday. The REAL vet said he definately is jaundicing, has a high fever, and is definately not just teething. Nothing he can do today though cause all the labs are closed for Labor Day, so we wait another day. That fucker VCA vet. She supar-sux.
A Little Piece of Me Died Yesterday

Or,

My Visit to Strategicon 2005

Denis and I headed over to the ole con to check it out, and it is not well. We were there on sunday around 1pm, when it should be somewhat hoppin', and it was not. Not to say it was empty, but the pulse was dangerously low.

The flea-bag market was void of ANYONE selling anything, the dealer room was moved to the second floor (along with registration) in what used to be the open gaming room, and the old dealer room is now the miniatures room, and the old miniatures room is now what looks like open gaming. I didn't think to pick up a con book to see what was being offered, I was to depressed. That con has gon downhill ever since we stopped going.

My conclusion is that while other cons have been evolving, and offering something, ANYTHING, different and new, Strategicon is the same old thing year in, year out. You always know what to expect. Maybe it's also that LA is sort of apathetic in nature, and maybe that is spilling over the cons as well. There is that other con that happens the same weekend as Strategicon in LAX as well, so that might be sucking some life too, I need to check that out sometime, see what it's all about.

So, from the small dealer room, I picked up a very fun game, Waterloo, which is a tactical over-sized chit and card driven game about focusing on the battle of Waterloo. Fun mechanics, nice pieces, and even though the game is set-up the same every time, I can see how playing different tactics based on your cards that round could change the game considerably from game to game. I'm sure Enron and I shall play it at GenCon. Denis was quite the sport and humored me by wasting some of his Anime watching time last night playing it. Hooray!

Also, the room at GenCon is all reserved and ready to go, I look forward to attending a REAL con with all you lads.

Watching Firefly with Leslie as we speak. She likes it! Strange, no?
