Everybody's excited about Bonaparte at Marengo because it's the long-awaited follow-up to Bonaparte at Torengo.

I saw Tom Petty last night at the Greek Theater in Berkeley (actually on the Berkeley campus). It was REALLY good, up there with some of my other favorite concerts (like the NoFX one where they took requests and cock-teased the audience by playing the first 10 seconds of Death of John Smith). He's one of the few old rockers who still is able to put out good material consistently and he seemed really energized and inventive. He played a lot of classic material, but the band played a lot of the songs in tweaked ways that made them seem fresher... he played a really restrained version of "Free Fallin'" in particular that kept the magic of the song while still sounding completely different.

The theater is cool too, it's fairly small so no matter where you are you have a good view of the stage. A much different beast than something like the Hollywood Bowl for sure. The theater's lighting system has some major problems, and several times all the lights onstage burned out, leaving the band playing in complete darkness with only a couple of flashlights providing illumination. I actually thought this was much cooler than the typical light-show stuff because the simpler lighting and the band's hilarious reponses to the problem made the show seem more unique and personal.

The sad part of the show was that Frank Black opened and nobody seemed to care too much when he was onstage. I guess part of that is his own fault, because so much of his post-Pixies stuff is really generic sounding light country rock, like the Allman brothers or something -- especially after Cult of Ray. But he played a couple of songs from Show Me Your Tears (a recent one, his divorce album and arguably also his comeback album) that were awesome to hear live.

What is this Bonaparte at Mangroro thing!? Some kind of fantasy card game their running at casinos now?

I dont know WHY I've never been to the San Diego Comic Con, but fuck next year I should really try to go. Everyone and their mother has been but me, so I'll try to make that happen next time. For Eric and any other BSG freaks out there, check out "Battlestar Panel" they had this year - its a bunch of parts, but here's part 1 and you can follow the links to the other parts after it, if you're so inclined: Parte Bona

So, I'm cleaning out and blacklisting basically all the mail that goes to my 10d6.com account last night, along with some random clicks to see some boobs here and there, I found some roll on the ground funny subject lines that I will reproduce for you all, right here! BTW, there were over 22,000 emails in my box, and at only 999 a page, this is a pain of a process, whatever, enjoy!

What are the details of your return flight Enron? Are you flying out of LA and what time is your flight? I was considering flying back home out of Orange County, possibly later in the day in hopes of getting in a little more game time on Sunday to make up for probably missing Thursday. But, I'm sure everybody else will be going home earlier than that anyway....

And yeah some RPGing will be an good time. The last game I played was the WFRP game at... '05 KublaCon? The last game I ran was 50 Fathoms in '04. Anyway I think I have a good one lined up for you guys.

Oh yeah and Enron, you might want to pass along these interesting facts about Khabor that I heard somewhere:

1. Khabor is gh3y
2. Khabor is teh gh3y35t
3. Pplz that like Khadbor are gh3y
4. Vodka is for pussies

Just some interesting things that I learned recently.
Bloggety blog blog the blog blog blog

Okay, I know I have not blogged much lately, but I guess it has been 11 days. Ugggg.... Well, anyway, the Wiki has been fun. I have taken a break from it. I have only occasionally been going in and adding an entry here and there after my frenzy of 200 some entries. I still have a long list; I need to get motivation to complete it. It is just every time I work on it I think up as many as I enter, so it never really ends up getting any shorter.

So that you know, I have purchased airfare and GenCon badgery. I will be coming down Wednesday night before GenCon. Sweet! I spoke with Dave Defeat, and he is in too and has already been approved for those days off. He is already talking shit about how he is going to hand people their asses with his Khador army. I guess he had his Menoth Army was ganked while he was moving. Boooo to theft of miniatures! Fuggers.

Elzar: I forgot to send you my list, didn’t I? I will send that to you this eve. I forgot what games I want at the moment. I am totally in for some ASL and Twilight, and it is not even the 'In Sprit' kind of totally in. I suggest we try and throw down ASL and Twilight on Thursday so as not to bore the other jArks. Maybe Dave will be into it too.

I would absolutely love to RPG. I have RPG'd only what once or twice in the past five years. Boo!

Capitola eh? Is there any progress on the search?

Well, the terrain definitely shouldn't go to waste. The only way I can think of transporting it is throwing it in Motorbyke's car sometime over Turkey Day weekend, or my girlfriend's if we drive down. Other than that, maybe we could work something out for Settlers, Ticket to Ride Europe, and possibly Medieval Madness/Dragon Delta. Not that I have any storage room myself, right now.

I am pumped for the convention as well. I am still trying to figure out which days I will be there... announcement forthcoming. Definitely be there for Friday night/Saturday/dregs of Sunday though. Aaron have you bought your return ticket yet? We should discuss. Also are you going Motorbyke?

Anyway my "want to play" list is short and sweet:
Warmachine (esp. against Dave Defeat, if he's there)
D&D, or a variant -- might sneak in Savage Worlds or Castles & Crusades instead -- but definitely some fantasy role-playing. I have an adventure all set to run so I say we do that on Saturday if people are interested.
To Blave on Teh Front Page, Again!

I think I am going to move the sad, neglected Blave back to the front page again, and let the Wiki take a back seat again. Also, I believe 'blave' is from Princess Bride, and somehow made it to mean 'blog'. A great idea for a Wiki entry!

We are slowly moving forward with everything that needs to be taken care of before we relocate to Santa Cruz (actually Capitola, probably). Lots of boxing of stuff, throwing out of stuff, landscape, bathroom work, sanding of decks, hauling of trash, making of loans, cleaning out of one's crap from their dad's house, etc. There are a lot of games I am parting with, and some terrainius maximus, so if you guys want any of it, I don't know how you will get it, but it's up for grabsDOWNFORKEEPS!!!! j/k d00dz. But seriously, along with this old list:

Ricochet Robot

...there will be more when I get to them, some RPG stuff, etc. I would LOVE to donate these things to a game club or a school or something, but i don't know of any around here. I may take them to an eBay store and have them do all the work for me, but if there is something you REALLY want, tell me and we can work something out. Sexual favors anyone?

So, things are moving forward, just slowly.

Looking forward like a mofo to GenCon and the HIlton (the other one was sold out, if you didn't already hear), and here are the game I wanna play, amended from last time, everyone should add their own list! Yay fun!

- ASL Starter Kit: If I played this one all weekend I would be just fine.
- Commands and Colors: Ancients: Simple, fun, the best use of the system so far.
- Twilight Struggle: Awesome game, that makes you seem smart and worldly when you play it!
- WoW:CCG: My preorder stuff should arrive before GenCon, so at the very least if it sells out we will have my cards to play with. Rumor has it, I might have enough to sell the rest of the AT if they want any...

What else does anyone want to play?
Unless yer running Ordo or something similar, i don't trust email too much. So instead I'll blave it (who came up with "blave" anyhowz?)

For Mac get something like THiS! - for PC I prefer BitComet personally. Then u go to sites like: Torrentspy and mininova and isoHunt and browse or search away. For PC at least, if you've got a client installed (like BitComet for me) you click on the torrents link that you want and it'll open up yer torrent client to d/l the goodies.
On the various sites (and theres a lot of sites - those r the ones I use though) they give you Seeds (how many ppl sharing it) and Leechers/Downloading - obviously, how many ppl are d/ling from the seeders. So you usually look for stuff with ideally more seeders than leechers, but you'll figure it out. Its like teh old days of Napster but dealing with much larger files usually (ie whole seasons of showz etc) This is all for uncopywritten stuff cuz otherwise you'd be a bad guy stealin from the poor multinational$! /cry I'm kinda fuckin drunk - havent gone drinking in a while and it kinda kicked my ass.

PS That slashdot thing was pretty friggin scary. I bet you theres been similar situations to that one from all sorts of different places. How fucking stupid is this world that ANYONE has that kinda power at their fingertips. We might not wake up tomorrow for all we know! thank god that guy didnt freak. my ass woulda fuckin called up reagan and been like "SHOOT MOTHERFUCKER!!!" :) I know I'm ready2die like biggie

Nice! I don't know too much about torrents... care to email me with some information?

I saw this on slashdot today. Raise a glass to Stanislav Yefgrafovich Petrov if you have the chance. I know that I enjoy not dying in fiery nuclear holocaust.
I found a torrent for Into the Unknown and am listening to it right now. Pretty fuckin bad, but very interesting. It's from 1983 and I guess they broke up after it for a couple of years and then got back together and eventually did Suffer. You can totally hear with the vocals that they were headed into the classic sound they created from Suffer on. But the music (and tons of cheesy keyboards) are really bad - BUT it's still totally Greg's sweet voice and harmonies - some if it almost sounds like their more recent stuff (minus the keyboards of course.) Interesting.
Oh, also check out this BR video I'd never seen: Dream of Unity - was from a euro live album they did that had a couple of new songs. Not the best BR song but nice video!
Nice find Rude! I really want to hear that album someday.

Yeah the Inaction Team is riding high these days. Me, I'm sick. I spent the weekend doing two things:

1. Trying to fight off an impending cold
2. Moving

Those two things are not really compatible. So, I'm home today. The new home that is. Which is my girlfriend's place. Which is now our place. She's out of town on a business trip. It still feels slightly strange being here by myself.

Big, big Action Team props to Enron and Myke for the help. Due to their help we managed to crank out the move in about five hours.

Later on I need to go home to pick up a few things I left behind. I'm halfway convinced that as soon as I open the door to the old place a wave of rats will come swarming out.

Oh yeah the best part about being sick is that recently I've been getting bloody noses really easily for some reason. So as soon as I go on an extended nose-blowing spree blood comes a-pourin' out.

Also the first draft of my screenplay is almost done. Yee-haw!

news from Denis

I heard from Denis and apparently as soon as he got to Japan he met this really gorgeous lady and picked her up and sexed her up proper. But then it turned out she was on the run from the Yakuza and she got murdered. Then he got on a train and fought some people and met an old samurai and somehow he went back back with him to samurai island to train in swords and stuff. Now he's on the ferry on the way back to the Yakuza compound for some fuckin' revenge. Best of luck, Pumpkin!

Check out this randomness: Jawbreaker covering a Bad Religion song from their album Into the Unknown (the one that's never been rereleased and supposedly has all kinds of keyboardy prog-rock shit on it.) 1992, wish I woulda gone to a Jawbreaker show back then! Click

Terrified

1) The amount of inaction in the action team. Did everyone die concurrently? There must be an evil nemesis picking us off one at a time to defeat the league. Quick, Muster! or Mustnerd.

Ok. The real terrifying story
2) This weekend, at the MCDonald drive through, my car emits a fury of steaming smoke from the engine. Quickly jetting off the ignition, I sat there thinking, "man, this ought to be real good". Stranded about 10 km away from home, 9:30 pm at night without any possibility of a nearby mechanic shop and the inability to fully communicate. Bust out the butterfly knife and we got a gang fight. Anyhow, took me about 1 hour to get home, starting and stopping, so the car wouldn't overheat.

Turned out to be a huge leak in the hose and all the water drained out from the radiator.

The great part
The mechanic shop I went to is perhaps the BEST little undiscovered shop in the world. I always thought that Philippinos were poorly equipped, unskilled, unadept novices that can't afford the right technology at everything which caused subpar workmanship in everything. While that may be true in many cases i have encountered, this shop has really proven me wrong. It's not a matter of nationality, poverty or ability. It's a sheer matter of discipline and scrutiny in detail. I wouldn't say that these mechanics were the best I have ever seen, but they took their time and carefully fixed my car.

I can say less for the doctors, mechanics and any other in the US. How many times have you encountered people that just did subpar workmanship? Doctors seems to be a prime candidate that falls in this category. How many times have you seen a doctor satisfied with mediocrity and was careless in their diagnosis? Art, eric, and I can attest to that. My nose problem is chronic, because the doctor just wasn't careful enough to perfect the operation. There are plenty of undisciplined lazy mechanics as well.

Bottomline, I guess it's not the country or the technology, it's just the people and who you choose to deal with. Choose meticulous people.
