I went to this Scion Owners event down in El Toro today - borrowed a digi cam and took some pics:

Shrek it out - My car aint in none of em but no biggie - You'll see the Monster Garage car (they turned an xB into a Rockem Sockem robot sorta) and some guys made his look like an ice cream truck - pretty funny. Alright guys, I'm tired so LATES!

Clear Channel = Bush

Besides owning 1200+ radio stations and promoting the gentrification of the US, they also seem to be a bit amiss in morals. I found this quote in by a local new site.

It turns out that most of the pro-war rallies have been organized by and sponsored by Clear Channel Entertainment, under the name of "Rally for America(tm)," in a faux-grassroots campaign known as "astroturfing." Writes The Chicago Tribune, "The sponsorship of large rallies by Clear Channel stations is unique among major media companies, which have confined their activities in the war debate to reporting and occasionally commenting on the news." "I think this is pretty extraordinary," said former Federal Communications Commissioner Glen Robinson, who teaches law at the University of Virginia. "I can't say that this violates any of a broadcaster's obligations, but it sounds like borderline manufacturing of the news."

Hints of things to come? Maybe. But are they bastards? Yes. Beside they suck the fun out of Radio. I hardly even listen to the radio anymore. Just too much crap. In other news: I went and saw Mystic River last night. That is a pretty grim movie. I really liked it. If you get the chance, I suggest you see it. The acting was very good and the storyline has a way of asembling itself as it goes on. There was only one part that really bugged me, but it was at the end and I wont talk about it... Spoiler.

Johnny: If I dont talk to you before Monday, good luck on the GMATs. Gives us a heads up on how you think you did. And remeber, if you have trouble, just get under the table, call Jon with your cell phone and ask him what that word means.

Fuck-fm, kiss pigs.

103.1 = boo!

I'm sure its way better than kroq - kroq is mostly what people listen to at work, and oh my friggin god, that station is pretty fucking bad. I swear to god, they play the same 5 songs all day long. SO BAD. But the thing about 103.1 is, it was recently a dance music station - and it was pretty good! Played a little pop here and there, but mostly house music and all the other dance genres. Then, KISS-FM freaked out over it, clear channel stepped in (bought it or they already owned it) and without ANY kind of announcement, one day its playing shitty "alternative gold" (thats what they call it.) Fuck kiss-fm and the pigs.

-Eeeeeeevvvviiiilllll Dick.
Agreed.

Les do it! So Dennis is the only one that doesn't know yet.

I'm taking my GMATS on Monday... yikes! This is it folks... all the studying. That's too dramatic. In reality, the test can be taken 3 times. But at 225 dollars a pop, it's quite costly.

Man, you guys read the articles on sexual assualt in the army? it's pretty bad.. the airforce coverups... If I were a girl, the army is the last place I'd be a part of.
Cash Call, Cha-Ching!

Has anyone started listening to 103.1 fm yet? SOOO much bettar than KROQ. Play indie stuff. I have heard everything from NoFX to Public Enemy and Mondays are commercial free. Pretty cool. We'll see how long the station lasts... my guess is not very, so take advantage of it while it is here!

I am down for the BB league. I think a game every 2 weeks is sufficient. I see where Johney is coming from, but man, sometimes I can barely stand after work, let alone spend 2 hours focused on a game. I also like the idea of making it interesting by putting some $$$ on it.

Yeah!
Lunarpages...

Every review I saw gave many thumbs up for lunarpages. It seems to be a pretty good company. Besides they have a fun space theme. Can't go wrong with that. Nexpoint's theme: "We banish your data to the land of wind and ghosts."

I did my taxes a few days ago and I get some back from the feds but I have to pay some out to the state. Blah.. Net is not that much.

Jon: Ill have to agree with you on the Elle bit. She was quite that hottie. Most 80s woman... yeah the hairstyles sucked. But there are a few here and there. I guess I am saying that All maybe a bit to all inclusive. However I really think the band idea is great. The Cha-Ching song would be the best cover song EvaR.

Schtuffen

Game on!

-What goes on in a Scion meet? You have to pay or just own a scion?

-As for BB, Hmmm... two weeks is good.
I'm really not trying to convince anyone of anything or force anyone into an obligation! I know I don't have all day either as I do have other prerogatives. I was simply making a suggestion. I may not agree with everything said and I still stand by the idea that BB would be more fun on a weekly basis. But it is for everyone to have fun, and I rather not dictate what everyone wants or cannot commit. Just let me know when it rolls and if you need help organizing it.

-time for my beauty sleep.

Let's Get Rich!

For reals though. So, right now its a "seller's market" in real estate, right? So, people keep saying eventually this bubble is going to burst, so what comes next? What is the next trend? Elrick, what do your bosses tell you?

So, this Saturday I'm going down to El Toro air force base for this really big Scion car meet - should be fun!

I'm down to play some bugger bowl, but I think I'm with Elrick on the 2 week timeframe. While there are HOURS i spend during the week doing NOTHING, I still don't want this to become hard to squeeze in. Once every 2 weeks sounds purrrfect.

Did my taxes online - waiting for a pretty penny to roll in (hopefully by next week.)
I stand by the 2 weeks

I cannot agree to play a game a week. My work schedule is too busy, and I am beat by the time I come home, and then on the weekends I have to tend to all the obligations that I couldn't meet during the week, so to have to make a schedule for a game a week too, it could be miserable some weeks. I know that Ryan sometimes works from 7am to 8 or 9pm, and has close to all day swim meets or waterpolo tourneys over the weekend. Rudy mentioned that a) he is working longer hours than he used to, and b) he has a girlfriend that can cut into time considerably (as can married life!). I think only you and Denis have the disposeable time these days, though I am working on getting my self some of that too. So, I cannot go along with once a week games as mandatory, sorry.

I think the real problem lies in my spare two hours a week don't always coincide with anyone else's, you know? I LOVE the idea, and would love to be a part of a weekly league, but I can't agree to it right now or else I would be the one MIA that would ruin it for everyone.

As for the T-Shirts, I can design some when I get around to it, as long as no one from CafePress recognizes any of the trademarks, we should be able to make some kewl Supar Action Bowl Team Shirts!
kudos, 2 shillings and some chin nuts

Ayerick - Most of it sounds good. I would like to see a game a week though. It may seem like a lot, but 2 hours out of a week doesn't seem much to ask for, especially 2 hours over saturday or sunday. At the height of previous blood bowl frenzy Rudy and I were blazing away at 2 games just over the weekends. If people wait too long, people will just lose interest, or you start getting people wanting to play side games, and non-league sanctioned games.

-In addition it's important that People FULLY participate. It'll only take 1 person to ruin the whole schedule by being MIA or lethargic.

-Also, I don't think we should play with people and teams outside the league... ruins the whole league gameplay. The fifth team should take a break and not play for that week. So that way, 2 out of the ten weeks you get (un?) deserved reprieve.

P.P.S what about the T-shirts and stuff?

BTW

Lunarpages is awesome. I have paid for the actionteam.org, now I am waiting for Nexpoint to update the DNS servers.... ugh...

But the control panel, and just the level of control that Lunarpages offers is SO FAR SUPERIOR to the shit that Nexpoint offers. It's like I've fallen in love all over again! Hopefully the change will be happeneing
soon....
Blood Bowl 2004

Okay, so here is my go of creating the new league format, ideas and the like will be appreciated, and of course this will be played over Java Bowl, unless we look into the PBeM version, which is an option for Mike then, I'll check it out.

I'm assuming that Rudy, Johnny, Denis, Ryan, and Eric will be the only takers for the league, so my thoughts are that we set a scedule (which I have in front of me) and we just need to play one game over a two week period. So, it will be up to everyone to organize their own game for that two week period. Since there are 5 people, two games will be played between ourselves over the two weeks, and then the one "bye" team will have to play a random FUMBBL team that has a higher TR than your team, just to keep things interesting...

So, a win is worth 3 pts. a draw is worth 1pts. and a loss is worth nothing. At the end of the 10 week season, the Supar Bowl will be played between the top two teams for supremacy, no runners up.

Sound good? It just seems to me that everyone has hellish weeks these days and it would be hard to schedule the same day every week, or even to schedule a game once a week, so my two week idea seemed workable. I can track all the stats of all the teams on a spreadsheet and will have player leaders, team leaders, etc. Kinda cool.

Ideas? Thoughts?
PPS Jon, that was frigin hilarious.

I think Daphne gave me a bonar too *****>>>. And seriously, all 80's women are hags. Look at em now. like raisins. I was watching that chick from Beverly hills 90210 the other day (blond one) and she must be 35 now.

Hey, I feel an egging to start the blood bowl FUMBBL league backup for the 2004 season.

It'd be cool if we can set a time for instance, 1 day of the week, where we can play the season games. All coaches draft up 3 teams, that are setup in different conferences. The Commissioner will setup a season schedule. Then after the season, we can determine the finalists. I also say we each put in 20 dollars to make it interesting to win the supar "blood" bowl or draft up some cool BB action team T shirts, mugs and such. We can even make the Supar BB I at the next kublacon or what not.

Any takers?

Jael,

P.S I know were all busy, but just wanted to check. Ruday? Oric? Enron? Johan? MIKE even! sorry we don't take rupees or pounds. It has to be 20 dollars US.

atari guys

I bet those atari guys were in a hot tub with beautiful '80s women. You know what? They can keep 'em. All women from the '80s looked like hideous hags*. I even thought this during the '80s.

cashflow

Heh. Cashflow was fun. That's when I got an idea for my band, The Consolidators. (Well, that and hearing the cha-ching ad on the radio a bunch of times.) With each song being about something you (the listener) did that was stupid and fucked up your life. First song, "You Never Should Have Bought That Boat." Second song, "You Shouldn't Have Slept With Your Ex-Wife." Third song, "That Loan Wasn't A Good Deal."

* With two exceptions: 1. Phoebe Cates when she gets out of that pool--but then she's got wet slicked-back hair and the horrible '80sness is dispelled. 2. Elle McPherson, who gave me my first bonar**.
** This is probably actually not true. Sadly enough, my first one probably came from either random brain impulses, or Daphne from Scooby-Doo.
Cashflow...

I had a good time playing it too. Pretty fun. Amazing just how much that guy is raking in on that game. HUGE margins on that production.

Kings: Simply amazing. If anything this year will help groom some of the minor leaguers and prospects for future play. Just sick how much injuries have plauged the team. To be honest, the kings have only had a couple years the past decade that have not been either riddled with injuries or the team just plain sucked. Quote from the ESPN power rankings says it all, "Sure, the players play the games, but Andy Murray's ability to keep his team afloat through this many injuries is unexpected." Any word on the anticipated length of time Visnovsky will be out? All I know is he's on IR after that check into the boards. One thing that amazes me is the number of ties. Crazy. Is it me or , does the league seem to have a lot of ties this year? In fact the 'Ties' column looks either worse or the same as compared to each of the past three years, after the season is completed. Yet we still have 28-30 games left in the season.

Ja -El: I have to say I am with Elrock on the NYTimes registration ban. Fuggers. I have resisted it for three years and I will continue to o so.

All: Did you see the bit about TiVo? Here is a blurb from slashdot...

"Sprinkled in the Janet Jackson boob stories is an alarming bit of information: Tivo tracks subscribers' viewing habits. They know how many times the boob was viewed, among other good-to-have (meaning data worth $$) information. Yes, if you agreed to Tivo's privacy policy you knew they could do this, with the promise that you aren't identifiable. Put on the tin foil hats? Or just another way for them to keep your monthly fee down (snicker)." A story from 2002 has more information and makes clear that Tivo does have the capability to record every click you make on the remote control, at all times."

I knew TiVo keeps "Anonymous" statistics, but I didnt realize they tracked data with that fine of granularity.

Sadly, I am Not a Member

- Can't read the story cause I don't want to register with the NYTimes, but I bet it's good.

- I still remember Jon's response to the offer of playing Cashflow at GenCon, "Johnny, it's called Cashflow." Then we didn't play it. Until I convinced Jon to play once at my hizouse. Our game is currently in stasis but his trucker certainly had a rough go of it. His best move (other than marrying the wife that made him spruce up the house and go on vacations when they couldn't afford it) was to find himself close to bankruptcy and then thinking that buying a boat for $17,000 (actaully pretty cheap!) would help his situation! That was a fun and funny game, particulary when the nerd in us brought role-playing elements to the table. We should all play sometime, it's fun!

- I heard about that Atari documentary (ah yes, my documentary). Atari people were living the lives of rockstars, and one of the most memorably scenes in the show was the Atari-staff jacuzzi filled with ugly programmer nerds and beautiful golddigging women.

- I love hockey. I love the Kings. I would say close to 25 million in players salary is on the IR right now (out of something like a 35million roster) and they still refuse to quit. Only 4 losses in the last 20 games or something like that. Unbelieveable. For those out of the recent loop: Norstrom, Visnovsky, Miller, Brown, Deadmarsh, Palffy, Straka, Allison are all out with injuries, so we have a VERY solid minor league team pretending to be the Kings... but Dog Bless 'em, they are playing their hearts out every night.

Hey has anyone seen Once upon Atari?

it's supposed to be a documentary on Atari back in the 80's to the height of it's success. Sounds alot like the documentary they did on Microsoft and Silicon Valley, but I think it looks cool.

http://www.scottw.com/

Also remember the 195 dollar game? Rat Race? Pretty cool article in the NY times.

fucking idiots. Doesn't this seem more like a late night infomercial on selling people "how to be rich" schemes? And the key to be rich is to sell videotapes of "how to get rich schemes" to a million other idiots. In this case, this guy encourages others to start businesses, yet profits off of the business of telling other people to start businesses. yikes.

Jael

Added Hey i got a great idea. You know, it's not a bad concept. Why don't we make our own reality "life" game. (self help style) I think it'd catch on. Parents love that "teach" your kids real life. It's like the game of Life, except more in depth. Anyone who can't quite picture what I'm talking about, go over to erics house and play cash flow once.

Hehe... cute

With his arms cut-off, he looks like young pac-man.

Eric, WHEN i get a 720 on my GMAT score, and double my investment in the market (two very plausible ideas), I sir, will accompany you to visit Mykal Anusderson. And quite possibly, he can hook me up with one of those smart, yet pliable Cambridge lass. =O

FYI - Enron didn't win at Carcasonne, because I DID!! har har! bring it!

Jael

The Blood Bowl

So, anyone, any interest in playing in THE Blood Bowl in England, May 8th and 9th? Tickets go on sale Feb 4th... Flights are pretty cheap sometimes... (insert your team here) and Altdorf Arsenal deserve their chance against the best!

Mike? You're already there!

(this post is mostly in jest, unless I get a bite, THEN it is for real...)
NexAss.net

Yeah I noticed that fine one two. So much for 99.99% or even 99.9%. In fact I doubt they can even make 99%. Great webservice. Fuggers! Elrock I support you 100%. I will donate. You know what really rules about nexpoints timing? Too bad I am telling you anyway. I just sent out a resume/cover letter for a job refering to a website hosted on guess what a nexpoint server. Go figure. So I sent it out of friday afternoon which mean they probably tried to look at the site this morning. Rule.

Aimey and I went to Johnny Khan Superbowl bash. Well yet again I have failed to win at Carcosonne. I really like the game, but man I suck. As usual I didnt watch much fuseball, aside from the last 10 minutes of game time.

Elrock, kick some Bass.

PS Elrock when you are going to switch the domain for Studio give me warning so I can inform them that they will be having an interuption in service. Particuallry the email. I need to know how long they will be down and the particulars of the changed server names/passwords etc... I know it is a pain, but it would be best if they could make the transistion over a weekend.
I would be down to donate. Let me know how much and to whom to write the check.
Lunar Pages, Here We Come!!!

Nexpoint are a bunch of fuckups. ALL of the sites on ALL of their servers are down right now, including their own website. I called and the idiots said "we are aware of the problem and it is internal and we are working on it now." He wouldn't give me anymore information, so I'm guessing A) They are going out of business and don't want to tell anyone, B) they forgot to pay their bills because they suck, or C) I don't know, they just suck. So, I'm looking into LunarPages as a replacement, and am looking to make the move soon! So, I'm asking for a donation from everyone to help pay for the switch. I'm moving theactionteam, 10d6, and we should move studio9one2 also. So, everyone is applicable to donate for theactionteam, Jon, Enron and myself are applicable for 10d6, and Pat Killen for studio9one2 (which incidentally I have not billed for the last two renewals, oops...).

So that's the story.

Sunday, February 01, 2004

oops. that sucks.
