No German Toys In Toys R Us

- Read an interesting thread in the Days of Wonder forums: there are no pro-german toys in Toys R Us because TRU is owned and operated by a Jewish group. Interesting, no? They have pulled virtually all of their WWII toys and refuse to stock Memoir '44, only in the US, it is fine in France, which leads me to believe there is some sort of franchise, multi-national separation exists within the company. But anyway, no games where you can play as Germans (Axis and Allies included!), and no toys that "glorify" or represent Germans in a way that can be "played as", ie a German WWII action figure. Also, its cool to stock Medal of Honor for console systems 'cause you don't play as a German, and infact you murder them wantonly throughout the game, so it's all good.

- I think I broke my toe this afternoon after I stubbed the fucker on one of our kitchen stools. It is teh sucks.

- Mario Golf Advanced looks better than Mario Golf Color, but so far it plays way differently and I am sad. I bought it for the GBA to take to England, so MG can be played on two European vacations, and I will draw my conclusions when I return. But for now, change is bad; like the difference between Sim City I and II. SOOOO different!

- Saturday is the day of games this weekend! With a small 3 hour window of games on sunday for the ex-D&D group. It's a mini-con at Eric's!
Damn

That is pretty jacked if that is real. Pretty funny too. Then again I never trust any pictures online.

Ry You truly got mad Flash skillz

Damn I get frustrated at Flash games. The timing can be so inconsistent on my machine. Its wierd, every minute or so the motion stutters or lags.

I went to Napa/Sonoma Valley with Aimey today for her BDay. Had a good time, tasted some Vino, and best of all I had some Aged Gouda. You might be saying to yourself, what is so great about aged Gouda? Well here is what is so great. We were in a very nice restaurant in Sonoma for dinner... I tried my hardest to clinch it in, but I let one fly. Now, no one heard it, but oh my god. If the Hyperion Sewage treatment plant were a living creature that crawled deep in my bowels, it died their and stewed in its own juices and created a double fresh scent for all to enjoy. Dear god it was rude. Eric I seriously am considering bringing the left over gouda we have down to LA so that I can deliver a present for you next week. Please advise.

Eric/Jon: I can empathize with you both on the ladder thing. Not Theif specifically, but a lot of games handle ladder climbing so akwardly. Its almost as if that part of the UI engine is an after thought.

Bortz

PS Johnny we are going to have to put Memoir 44 to some heavy usage.
for eric:

http://gba.ouroad.org/index.php?act=rominfo&number=1544

It's the GBA ver of mario golf advance tour! In enlish! It's SLOW download though - there's 2 radio buttons at bottom in chinese, click the top one and WAIT... zzzz. But, its worth it and legit. Nice.

Just got my copy of Memoir 44..

Now all I have to do is play it! schweet! If anyone is considering getting a copy, I bought mine at Boardgames.com, and they are selling it for 35.00. plus shipping 6.72. They will even drop the shipping if you purchase 100 dollars or more.

there's lots of games on the cartoon network website.

and Ryan, you are a nerd.. I can't even get past level 7 on curveball
Fuck that ladder.

I know exactly the one you're talking about. That bullshit pissed me off so bad.

The best ladder-climbing programming is in the new Prince of Persia game. Easy to get on, easy to get off, you can flip around to the other side if you need... beautiful.

I'm Ron Burgundy?
Also, some words about Thief 3

Okay, its fun and all and a good game, but for fucks sake, why can't a damn video game company get the programming for climbing and dismounting ladders right? I mean I just broke out of jail, stole a bunch of crap from the jail, avoided and knocked out a ton of guards and then found a ladder to climb, so I did. The way to exit the ladder was to my left, and by "moving left" it got me nowhere, so I jumped, the traditional button to get off ladders. So I jumped off the ladder to my death at the bottom because there was no way to simply walk off the ladder to an exit to my left. This is the kind of thing that makes me 1) Never play the game again because I don't want to bother doing the same thing again (Jon cannot relate to this), and 2) Play supar cheaps style and save every 10 feet in case some other bullshit like this happens again.

I am way tired, way irked, and way hopped up on a cafe amerikana -- not a good combination.

Also, does anyone know shit (Jon) about screenplays? I ask because I am currently obsessed with this book on the history of the American Hardcore Movement. It is a GREAT book published by Feral House (they put out some real crap, but some great stuff too... "Femur", anyone?) documenting and re-telling the story of AHC from the beginning to end as told by the people who were there via interviews. Ryan I think would love it. Combining this book with Rollins' great Get In The Van (reprinting of his diary while with Black Flag, along with photos, etc.) there seems to be a potential Rocku - Docu - Mocku - Cockumentary, or just a movie based on all this shit. HC was born of an era of tremendous fear and doubt based on the early Reagan years, and it seems like in light of our recent un-elected leader, a story like this could be told and appreciated. Also, I think there would be an audience of people that have no idea really where their KROQ music really came from and need to know.

I don't know, I think I'm a little crazy right now. But everyone should read both books who has ANY interest in music, no one will, but still, I thought I would suggest them.
I know its because your rad

But how teh hell did you even score a point on level 8?!?! I can go in with full health and I can't ever get one past the Incorporeal Curveball King. WTF? CTFU, d00d? STFU while your at it.
If you thought level 8 was hard, you should try level 9. My new favorite game: Curve Ball. I can't believe I have to be awake in 6 hours. By the way, the cell phone antenna Jesus is scary as hell dood.

I Declare Level 8 Impossible to Beat!

The next in my long line of brief obsessions with simple games. It seems the way my mind works these days -- I think I am getting more dumberer. Good, expensive games can't hold my attention, yet Pingu Toss and Curveball can!

Jesus on a Cell Phone Antenna!

Wow. Here's the story: HERE!
It's serious guys! Yikes!

yarz dudes - i'm down for a day this weekend - just gimmie some advance notice so i can go visit my folks b4hand to do my laundry, etc. that game sounds hellza fun.

Achtung! Fun! Eric I hope you didn't see that game in your brain for hours. The "Operation Lüttich" mission was especially good. I was thinking it over and if you'd had some airstrikes, you could have really kicked the shit out of me, especially in my right flank.

Overlord sounds like a blast!

I really like Memoir 44 and found it surprisingly different from Battle Cry. The two games play differently that I can see myself playing both (admittedly, I haven't played as much Battle Cry as you guys, so I'm not burnt-out on it yet). I won't go on for 3000 words or anything, but it's a sign of a good game design when two games with very similar trappings turn out so differently.

My availability on Sunday is seriously limited, but I could probably do something that evening.
Memoir 44 fun

I would love to play, but I will not be around until the late eve on the 28th. Booo.. Johnny and I did play the overlord setup with four players to a side and it was pretty fun. Days of Wonder sent someone to Demo the game at our last Gamesday event last weekend. How sweet is it that I learned how to play the game from a Frenchman. SPeaking of which, Eric, did you ever send your copy back to get it exchanged for the English version? Or are you roughing it with the French version?

bored-tz
You know what I like?

I like making games. I'm down for some fun this weekend, and I'll unveil my new game "Battle Ground"! It's a WWII, semi strategic, semi tactical level game, 1.5 hours to play, uses miniatures, 2 players. I don't know how the game play is yet, we'll have to test it out. I have a few more cards to make and some more rules, and it will defintely be complete by this weekend!

I also bought a copy of memoir 44 and will be recieving it by thursday. I will be bringing that down to play with my cousin, and maybe, call it crazy, we can put 3 boards together into a battle for germany campaign. Schweet!

Overlord

After having my ass handed to me twice at Memoir '44 by Uberkommandar Jon , we thought an enormous game of an Overlord scenario would be fun this weekend if we can rally enough of the troops! Eric, Jon, Ryan, Rudy, Denis, Johnny and Aaron is enough for a minor version of Overlord and would be kick ass! So, I know Enron is probably out, but that still leaves 6 which would kick ass... any takers for perhaps a saturday game?

Also, I must mention to Rudy that I listen to Lab Classics Vol. I all the time, I really enjoy it!
One from the book of Jon

When you load up the penguin game in explorer, something odd happens if you miss the penguin; You score -56.3. In fact you will score -56.3 everytime you miss the penguin until you hit it. Then, everytime thereafter that you miss the penguin, you score a zero. Oddly enough, in Mozilla, if you miss the first time you score 0. Yeeha minor bug.

How sad my life has become this week. Stupid 'flash game' bug reports.

Ernest Bortz-Nine

i would also like to get together although i am the outsider... the stranger.. killing an arab! (got yer cds jon.)

i give u money 2 jael - relax bro.

Hey guys, are we getting together either particular day this weekend?

If there's any kind of vote, then I'd prefer Saturday day/evening, because I'm busy after about 4:00 on Sunday. But that's just me....
Thanks Jon

One thing you managed to not point out directly, but lay out in front of me was... I didnt win a single game in the Ghostwind Campaign. Way to go tactical blunders!

In other news, it looks like GW killed the development of the Warhammer MMORPG that has been in developemnt for four years now. Ouch. Also I finished A Clash of Kings. Onward to A Storm of Swords. Good stuff.

PS RIP Skelephone. Boooo... I should get my replacement today. Same number, different service.

I declare Eric the winner of the Ghostwind Campaign

I found our Chainmail campaign tracker today. Aaron and I had played three games and Eric and Denis had played two--presumably their next and final round was versus each other.

I extrapolated the winner of the Eric/Denis match using a methodology which consisted of the following steps:

1. I rolled a die.

The campaign broke down as follows:

ROUND I
AARON vs ERIC - Winner: Eric!
DENIS vs JON - Winner: Jon!
Aaron - 45; Denis - 45; Eric - 60; Jon - 60

ROUND II
AARON vs DENIS - Winner: Denis!
ERIC vs JON - Winner: Eric!
Aaron - 40; Denis - 55; Eric - 70; Jon - 55

ROUND III
AARON vs JON - Winner: Jon!
DENIS vs ERIC - Winner: Eric!
Aaron - 35; Denis - 50; Eric - 80; Jon - 65

Congratulations, Eric!

Did you guys ever finish the (much more relevant) BB tournament? Last I heard of it was at KublaKon....

Some Scary Shit

I was watching Celebrity Poker on Bravo last night - sometimes its a cool show - depends on the guests. Anyways, one of the players was Chris Masterson (he's "Hyde's" from That 70's Show real-life little brother)and his "charity" that he was playing for was "Citizen's Commission on Human Rights." Well, if you ever drive down Sunset Blvd, you can see one of their offices, and its got big posters on it that say "Psychiatry Kills!" Ya - its a Scientology front. Fuckin pyscho! When I put the show on, he was totally in the lead. I was like "oh, fuck!" BUT, Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls smoked his cult-ass, and thank the friggin' gods that money went to a REAL friggin charity (hers was a UCLA woman's cancer group.) I was trippy though - that guy was all scary-stylee the whole time. What a fuckin' scam!
