good call rudy

Now that your store is going to be opened soon, can you still make it to Kublacon during May? You can probably begin setting up a booth, but Returns vs. Cost. You should have a friend distribute flyers in Strategicon about a grand opening date and 10 % disconunt flyers. Maybe even do a membership points redemption program for frequent buyers.

Have you considered stocking sex toys? har har... jkjkjk... but the idea of blow up elf dolls... may have a discovered niche market.

Er... that's all

added 4/24/04 2am: I learned how to play Liza and Louise, solo intro and song. ummm... too bad we don't play anymore. Actually i don't know why i even still play. still cool though, I should sell my guitars.
Doctor Mike!

Thanks Mike, and best of luck finishing up your phd! That's a friggin' awesome achievment, and we know you'll knock it out in time! I know what you're saying about just cruising around in Vice City - nothin wrong with that! My own site is:
cafebeats.com and the label I might be signing to is www.groovegravy.com . I'm still waiting on the proposal from the guy, so nothing is certain yet, but its still way rad. Go listen to the clips on thier site for the albums they've put out - really good shit.

"You've Got Dice" Game Dungeon is gonna be rad. Dude, I'll totally volunteer work for you elrock on weekends and whatnot.

Garsh Dammnit Pumpkin, hurry up and draw Jon's cartoon! The sketches you showed us were totally rad, and it gives me hope that we'll actually all make that project happen. Maybe we could release it as a video or something! ;)

Con is soon! I gotta do some kinda of prereg soon - Elrock - how's it lookin as far as you going vs game store workage?

I signed up for a gmail account (my full name at gmail dot com bitches!) Enron was telling me about the security worries people have with it, but I figure it can't be much worse than hotmail - until someone steals my info or something.

Yet more congratulations!

Wow, so much change, time seems to really fly when working on finishing the diss.

Firstly, well done Rude! That's so amazingly cool - I'm so glad my friends are being so successful! Can't wait to hear your work - sorry I've not been in on it from the beginning, but if you've still got links to any of it, send them again please.

Secondly, Elrock - I'm not sure I'm reading the blog correctly, but if you've left the job to found a game store - as it sounds, then I only have one question,' Can I come to work for you?' Seriously, so good to hear that the dream isn't dead, and that Paul's will metaphorically live again (albeit in a much better form...)

It's so great they you guys are doing so well! As you might imagine, for me the panic has really set in... one might even call it PhDschrek ! I keep getting threatening emails from the University and I'll be out of a home on October 1. It's bad, and I'm working these fabulous hours, but I believe I might just get it done on schedule so that I can get the fuck out of here and come home. Not that I'll be able to do anything with my degrees or anything, but, at least I won't be so far away... Well, that's all my news. Wish I was going to Klub-a-thon - Maybe next year. Did you guys get the volunteer offer for TrueDungeon? Sounds like perhaps it's not going to be at SOCAL, if, indeed there is a SOCAL GenCon. Righto. Sleep for me now, perhaps preceeded by some relaxing driving in Vice City. (Sad but true that I actually just drive around, not even running traffic lights - guess I'm just losing it...)

Congratulations all around!

That's some exciting news Rudy. Good luck on the project. Really interested to hear the stuff.

Eric, broken the chains of the paycheck have we? That sweet, sweet piece of paper and its merciless little cuts. We bleed and bleed yet we continue crawling back for it. Now how can you abandon such exquisite pain? (This would be the part where I put on my bondage outfit.)

Oh yeah, did you get my email. I sent it to your Ex-work (I bet that sounds good) address. So what's your new main email address then?

I'm calling the session: 2:57pm 4/23/2004, I am officially on my own and entering the uncertainty of entrepreneurship! Jinkies!
AOL is Ass On Line

Ja-El: Get rid of it! Copy the "You've got mail" sound file from the AOL directory. Delete the program. Use some other mail service, like maybe your actionteam email and set up Outlook Express or better yet Thunderbird for POP3 action and you can still access your mail via webmail if necessary. BTW, Tbird or other alternative email clients are less susceptable to virus infected mail since a lot of virii are specifically written to circumvent MS product security safeguards. Finally, access the windows sound control panel and apply the "You've got mail" sound file to the appropiate program/action. Problem solves and AOL will be out of your back pocket.

You know, your Mom doesn't seem like the Tarantino type. He's just so crass and bloody. He does make cool movies though. I only went to Video Archives a few times with Rich and Elrock, but I still kinda remember the guy. Anyway, maybe I will give the movies a whirl. Tonight I am going to try and see a documentary called Supersize Me. A SF Int'l film festival movie about a who decides he is going to eat only at McDonalds for a month. I guess his body just starts falling apart on him. I can not even image a month of McDirty's. Yuck!

Elrock: Good luck on your last day! YeeeHaaa, Jester's dead.

Nose Goblin
Kill Bill 2 was much better than the first.

Here's how the movies break down. Vol. 1 is about The Bride setting off on her quest o' vengeance. Sounds good on paper, and I liked the movie, but it's a rocky start because there aren't tons of tense moments, surprises, or bits of character development, and those things are basically Tarantino's trademarks. Ultimately it comes off a little flat for most people.

Vol. 2 is all payoff. There are some very tense moments and there's much more emphasis on the characters. I mean, this is still a movie about international assassins, not a character study, but within that context they are developed as much as I could have wanted. The fights are better-staged, and resolve in interesting ways.

I would say that strictly speaking you don't have to see Vol. 1. In fact, there's a big plot twist in Vol. 2 which might work better if you haven't seen the first.

So, I thought it was great. I'm excited to see it again. (My mom looks kindly upon Quentin Tarantino because she loved going to Video Archives back in the day. So I always see Tarantino's movies in the theater with her.)
Kill AOL webmail stinks, Kill Bill good

For 5 bucks a month you get a non-dialup webbased AOL email account which compared to free web-mail isn't particularly great. My complaint is that it takes forever to load up the webmail which is probably because the jerks at AOL didn't dedicate enough Servers into the web hosts, or the administraters are constantly with their thumbs up their arse. Perhaps the latter would explain the frequency. So essentially snail mail is really snot mail. If I weren't such a sentimental relic of the "you've got mail" era, I would cancel my AOL account.

I liked Kill Bill 1, which was above average and Kill Bill 2 was okay, which was slightly above average. Both movies weren't the greatest tarantino films but still enjoyable vs. other films in the market. If you're expecting brilliant movies, don't. You can see Tarantino's style relflected in parts of the movie, but most of it fell by the wayside and remains un-memorable.

Time flys by

Well I was trying to figure out what day it is, I just dont know how tomarrow is Friday. I dont know where the hell this week went.

Elrock: That is sweet about the job ending. Sounds like you are feeling good about things. Cell phone camera. Why? You slut. Those are evil. I bet its for you panty shot collection huh? Jerk. ANyway... Hey I need to dump actionshots off of the studio server. I never got the login info for FTP to actionteam.org to put that stuff on it.

Rude: Yeah the Metallica thing was very cool. Fortunately, they dont seem to dwell on Drugs in the movie. Supposedly, Hammett is clean since he started surfing a few years ago. That guy is a little perma-fried, but as it goes on he seems to get moreand more lucid. Hetfield went into rehab and is supposedly off the drugs and alcohol too. The movie is about their friendships/working relationships and not partying. You know somehow it doesnt surprise me that Pantera was into drugs. Just got that vibe about them, particularly Phil.

Jon: Keep me updated on Kill Bill, I have been interested, but I heard very mixed reviews on the first part. I heard the second is better than the first, but I am going to wait and see what the word is out on the street before I watch those two.

Orange Julius, the drink of the warrior pope
.

Quick Note:

- Congrats on the end of your old job Eric! Dude, you'll make "Hot Dungeon Games!" a success. Dude, I'm seriously very excited about it, as are the rest of the gang I'm sure.

-Sunday gaming was rad. What the fuck - you guys don't do it every sunday? i call bullshit. actually, i dont call shit. kidding bro kidding!

- I think I saw that same Maxim/Stuff/FHM spread on those girls you were talking about Jael - not my kind of music, but my kinda of chicks, YA! RAR! :)

- Metallica: I want to see that movie too. My friend at work has been in the Metallica fan club for like 11 years, and a few years ago he went to a party at Kirk Hammits (or whatever the fuck his last name is ) house, and he said he watched them do big ol fat lines of coke. Yuck. Also, he was on an oz fest tour, and he saw old hypo-needles in the trash can on the Pantera bus (I guess Phil has a drug problem - yuck again.)

- I talked to that guy from that label again the other day, we went over a few more things, and this week he's writing up the proposal for me. Before I sign a damn thing, I'll make sure I understand every last bit of it. Pretty exciting, but its also one of those things that won't really hit me until I actually see something happen. Cool nonetheless.

LATERZ SKATERZ

PS: Final Fantasy Tactics is the shit on the GBA. SO coool.

Things

- So, it's my second to last day here at Showcase and I'm not at all unhappy about it, funny that. I am nervous about going at it on my own, but I look forward to the challenges and success that I hope to achieve.

- I have a new cell phone number: nine one eight eight seven zero zero. This phone also has a camera and I have a moblog setup, so maybe I can in some free time set up a link to the pictures from the moblog on the actionteam blog. It's fun, the camera sux0rz, but its still fun.

- Kublacon approaches....

Good luck Rude...

Jael, I remember seeing a picture of those Bond girls in Maxim or Stuff or something and thinking they were particularly attractive. One thing I like is girls.

Thanks for coming by the game Rudy, hope to see you again. I don't think I will run a game this weekend, but hopefully the weekend following.

I'm going to see "Kill Bill" tonight. I've heard good things about it, I'm excited.

Bonds, Blondes, and Bombs,

my my my my... i just got a hold of a copy of the new "Bond" girls cd and it is pretty good. No, these aren't your has-been bond bad girls in a 2nd rate porno film. Its the name of a new band in Europe. All four girls are professional symphony music players. Their music is a blend of classical songs played with violins and techno instruments in the background. I think their sex appeal also makes them more attractive, but then that's the game. Overall excellent. Listen to it if you have time.

Johnny
Update...

For those of you who did not get a chance to see it, "Tea and Crumpets" went head to head with "Smoking Tacos" in a battle of attrition between two amazon teams. All said and done "Smoking Tacos" defeated "Tea and Crumpets" 2-0. Good game Pump.

Ry: I have a movie at 8pm tonight so I wont be able to play tonight. I will find out this afternoon when the best day this week will be.

Rude: That is an hilarious quote. I guess he didnt really think about it to much before he said it.

i thought this was hilarious: from a cnn article about the new bob woodward book:

Powell also disputed Woodward's contention that he and Cheney were so estranged by their differences over the war that they barely speak, insisting that his relationship with the vice president is "excellent."

"When the vice president and I are alone, it's Colin and Dick," he said.

Sweet Jesus.
Ya i know - My friend dore said "DONT SIGN ANYTHING!" when I meet him the 1st time. I'm gonna be REAL straight with this guy and make sure he's the same with me. FUCK! Good and scary shit huh?
My Advice is This:

Take the contract proposal to a lawyer and pay the lawyer whatever the fee is (probably 100's of dollars) to look over the contract from top to bottom. Do this do this do this. More to come.

Congrats!!!
RUDE DOG gets a record deal ... maybe

hey guys - im in a crazy mood right now. About 3 weeks ago or so, me and my dude dorian sent out copies of my 2 cds (the solo one and the one with dore) to about 30 labels that do this kind of music. Well, I got a reply from one label so far, groove gravy records and I just talked to the guy on the phone, and he's interested in doing a record with me! He liked about 5 or 6 of my beats, and he said he'd like to do a "HighEnd" album (thats my stage name) with those 6 tracks (polished up) and then maybe 6 more (for a total of 12 songs.) YIKES! He's gonna draw up a proposal for me, and he said there would be like a $2k advance. It's a small label, and their releases sell between 2000 copies to 10,000 copies, so it could potentially turn into something big (as far as small labels go.) YIKES! I'm totally bugged out. I have a friend who works in the "biz" and she's gonna do some research for me to find out about this guy, but what do u guys think? I think it sounds pretty friggin awesome but i'm still all freaked out n shit.

it's like WHOA.

Two Things at Once

Well, I had an eventful day yesterday. In the morning Aimey and I went hiking with a friend in the marin headlands. It sprinkled almost the entire time, but the scenery was amazing. It was along the coast where we saw two beautiful lakes and a waterfall that falls onto the beach sand and out to sea. Marin is just amazing for hiking. Every place we have gone up there for hiking has been quite stunning.

After an hour of driving each way and 5 and a half hours of hiking, I went to see Metallica: Some Kind of Monster at the SF Int'l Film Fest. The documentary was a very inside look into the lives, turmoil, therapy, and egos during the development of the most recent album St. Anger. I know it sounds like a bad VH1 episode of Behind the Music. But is was very good and revealing. The project started as just a documentation of the process of creating of a record, but turned into a fully naked exposure of their lives. This all occured during the period in which, Jason Newsted quits, Hetfield goes into substance abuse rehab, and the near collapse of Metallica, mid 2001 to mid 2003). Even for someone not knowing or caring about Metallica, this movie is worth seeing for its no holds barred view of a rock group torn from within and the development process of a big name record. What was really cool about the event is that Metallica was there with the director/producers for Q and A after the movie. It was very obvious that they were weary of the movie. They paid for it. They are scared of it. They poured their hearts out on tape and now the whole world will have access to that. They all seemed to have their own reservations about it, but they all seemed to think it was the right thing to do. As a review in the SF Guardian said, "It is probably the least vain musician vainty films ever." Anyway, it will be released in the theatres in August I think. Obviously it wont be a general release, but limited to theatres that play indie cinema. ANyway I highly enjoyed it. If you have the chance your should see it.
