Ok i tried to track down where u got that creepy garfield from but found this ytmnd about some strip where he died!? Kinda weird - music is kinda weaksauce, but its interesting... wat!?
Oh yeah, I kept staring at that gafield thing last night - so good... I can get sucked into those cat sites too, but they need some new ones! I hate all the "invisible" ones - and its like 90% are not funny/good, but theres still some just AMAZING ones! I love cats. So cuttte. My desktop here at work is one of the "cute" ones - one about the cookie. Ahhhhhhhhhhh....

So you guys ready for the invasion tomorrow? We're leaving at 5am! So we'll see you all b4 the sun comes up!
To be honest, I found that comic strip to be more than just a bit disturbing. John slash Garfield face. Uggg...

jr0n: I feel for you. The N seems to have an infinite capacity to annoy to no end. Last week I was 30 minutes late twice because of N line melt downs. Fuggers. The blurst has got to be when you are in the station waiting for the N and the systems says, NN in 5 minutes. 4 minutes later it announces NN in 4 minutes. 5 minutes later... The system makes no mention of an N. 5 minutes later the N is 8 minutes out. Repeat, rinse, watch Sunset MUNI patron fume.

Also I think I know that crazy singing wierdo.

The printed word cannot fully express just how funny I found that comic strip last night.

Those cat pictures really suck you in, man. I think I looked at them for like an hour at work. The music in that one slideshow is driving me crazy, because it's so familiar -- what the heck is that from!?

Stupidest trip home on the train today ever. There are six train lines: J, K, L, M, N, and T. All are travelled more or less equally except that the train I needed to take, the N, is usually the most packed.

I waited slightly over twenty minutes on the platform and the trains came in this order: J. L. J. L. T. J. J. L. J. L. L. T. J. L. J. L. T. I am not kidding. Finally an N came along and it was the most packed train I've ever seen. They are generally shoulder-to-shoulder in rush hour by the third stop or so but there were enough people to pack the car like sardines within instants of it opening at the first stop. Then the Muni driver, who was the smuggest-sounding motherfucker I've ever heard on that bastard of a train system, had himself a real good time making a bunch of jokes about squeezing in real tight and making more room in this annoyingly cheerful, sing-songy way. It was like being on a train driven by Tom Bombadil.

Once we got out of the tunnels a crazy homeless guy started doing his best Tom Waits impersonation, singing songs in a bizarre raspy voice. I didn't really catch the lyrics but there was one line involving "dragons" and another involving "the black abyss." I started thinking holy shit, what if this guy is actually some kind of fucking crazy prophet or something? It definitely could have been some sort of appendix or errata to Revelation.

Oh and then the jackass driving the Muni cheerfully announced that the train would be stopping at 19th Ave, which is only the halfway point on the route. Boy did everybody look steamed about that. Hopefully after everybody got off the train the driver drove the train off a cliff and into a fiery chasm while being all fucking jolly about it.

Man, now that I think about it, it was actually sort of an awesome Muni ride.

Jorn, I'm sure you're hip to the whole "I'm in UR..." internet craze.. but yeah, there's a shit-ton of those Kitty pics, as in:

When you go to rent the car, you'll have the option to purchase a collision and physical damage waiver (zero deductible) and/or to buy liability insurance. If you have both comprehensive and collision coverage on your Mustang, then you may elect to not take the collision damage waiver, but if anything happens to the car, then you're on the hook for your policy's normal deductible for the Mustang. If you don't currently carry comp/collision on your Mustang, I would recommend adding it to your policy the day before you pick up the rental (and/or reducing the deductible REAL low to like 100 or 250 even if you do currently carry comp/coll on the 'Stang).. and then either crank it back up to where ever you have it now (or removing it again, if you don't currently carry it) once you turn in the rental. Don't tell your insurance company your intentions to reduce the coverage again after the weekend, nor explain why the change in the first place outside of "I'd like to". The small net-cost of doing this little trick is usually only a few bucks, as opposed to $15-20/day at the rental shop.

Anyhow. Hope that made sense.

For some reason, I cannot stop cracking up at this stupid picture.

Ok, there has been a misunderstanding here. I'm not trying to strong arm anyone against the rental - as I said I think its a good idea. I have to give a final at 8am on Friday morning, it is finshed at 10:30. I am totally happy to rent the car and to drive the care (I don't think my insurance for the Mustang will make any difference to the cost, mind you, normally they make you pay for Collision-Damage insurance which I'm not covered for any better than anyone else - but I don't know).

What I want is someone to help me so that I can pick up the car without having to leave my own Mustang at the rental place or have to go to SFSU in the morning, then come back home to leave the car, then go back to pick the car on the bus, then come back to pick up all of the stuff here by myself. Doesn't seem like it should be such a problem.

Ultimately I don't care how we get there as long as we get there. I was also under the impression that the Tang 'Stang wasn't feeling so good, but if you think it can make it, then no worries!
I am not sure that I understand...

Myke, I am not trying to strong arm everyone into a rental. I just though that given the circumstances it seemed the safest choice... I was under the impression that the 'stang was having potential over-heating issues of such a nature that you did not trust it on any trips longer then the three mile trip to and from STFU? If this has been repaired or seems to have subsided, I did not realize. Last time we went over renting a car you seemed pessimistic about getting the car to a garage for repairs before the con and, I mistakenly thought, leaning towards the rental plan.

As far as me getting the car, or Jon for that matter, neither of us has auto insurance. For us to rent the car, it costs roughly $20/day extra, at least last time I needed it for a rental car. At four days that is an extra $80.00. I would nominate David, except he is not old enough to rent a car. I don't know his friend, so I can not really speak for him.

My plan was to arrive at the Con around 12pm-1pm.

What say you two? Where does this leave us and what is the consensus?

D>M>
I'm happy to get the car and be the driver but the problem is this - I can't drive two cars at once and I'm not willing to have to drive to SFSU, drive back up here, take the bus back down to SFSU to pick up the car by myself and then load everyone's stuff and drive around picking people up.

Since I'm the owner of the 'stang, and have been driving it to work and back for two months now, I think I have a good idea of its condition actually, and I don't like having my money spent for me, so excuse me if I'm a bit prickly.

That said, I think the idea of having a single car for us all is a good one, but if we need to get going early we should do it together. Enron, if you're taking the day off, why don't we get the car and go and secure the room then - unless you're planning on being there before 11am?
Damn -- this morning the bus I was on hit a car! I didn't see much 'cause I was reading, just heard the brakes screech REALLY loud all of a sudden, a woman screeching, a smash, and people flying all over the goddamn place. (I think the driver braked enough that the car and driver were fine except for the rear bumper -- no comment on the state of the driver's future job though.)

Then, this evening, I was waiting to order a burger at Burgermeister when I hear someone screaming bloody murder. I look over and an elderly woman is lying on the sidewalk with her arm under a car tire. No idea how that one happened.

This city is all fucked up today! I'm staying inside the rest of the night.
i'll be your guys taxi for $49.99 a day though! KEEP THAT IN MIND!
In Concur with Piece of Mind

The last thing I want to have happen (and do for that matter) is for the 'stang to poop out enroute, have it towed to a mechanics, then have me leave the con to pick up the stuff and people from the 'stang, deliver to the con, then enjoy the con, then have to drive people and stuff back to SF on monday before I then drive back to LA.

Now, I have no idea how reliable or not the 'stang is, which means I really have no place to talk, but I would be sad if it did break down and the above scenario had to play itself out.

It's easy to spend other peoples money, so I think you should rent the car!!!
Peace of mind

I figure that the car acts as peace of mind given the X-factor status of Motobykes 'Stang. I mean it will probably make it, but the consequences if it doesn't is a bit painful. Nothing like breaking down on the Khan day.

Rude: The drive is just shy of 17 miles from our place to the Khan. Taking all the goods via Public Tranny is a bit tough. It would seriously limit what we would be able to transport to the Khan.

Also, I spoke with the reservations desk this morning and I was able to confirm that I will be able to check in both rooms at the same time and inquired about showing up earlier than 3pm to increase our odds of being able to get connecting rooms on the interior side. They said that if the rooms are available when I arrive, they can check us in. Otherwise, they will have me wait until something is available. Long story short, I will return to my original plan and leave earlier to increase our odds of getting the rooms we want. I will take BART down earlier and leave some of my baggage for M. Byke to drive down along with some human baggage such as Meatball and his friend assuming we go the rental car route.

i dont get it. you guys dont really live THAT far from the hotel that you'd need to rent a car, do you!?
Well, I did some poking around and we could get a car that could reasonably hold 5 people for about $160, which is after sales tax, but I don't know if there are other fees that would apply. Aaron has a bunch of coupons so we could probably knock at least $25 off of that, probably a little more. That would be from the Enterprise which is near Stonestown (walking distance from the SFSU campus) from Friday noon until Tuesday (most car rental places are closed on Monday so the return would have to be on Monday).

So, with the coupon and all it would probably work out to about $50 a head, less if Dave and his friend chip in. It seems worth it to me, how about you guys?
Here's what I suggest:

I think I can get the car to make the journey down to Kubla on Friday - so why don' I take the stuff and one person, then meet the others at the end of the BART line? It would save us on the rental. J0rn is supposed to be checking on rental costs for a big ol' van or some such which would also be ok I suppose, though I'll not have much time this week to get to a rental place and it sounds expensivo to me.

I am thinking of running a Forgotten Realms one-off dungeon crawl at the Con if you all are interested. Let me know.

Mykenloft
Ok, here's the plan...

The tentative plan at this point is that Myke (only insured jArk in the group) will rent wheels and we will use that to transport all the meat and the goods. It would just be logistically messy to have five guys take PUNI the d'oh BART with a grip of shit. I was going to try and get to the hotel early to check-in, but they have a fairly late check-in time of 3pm. Booo... So, we will just need to try and make it there by 2:45 to check-in. This way we have the best chance of getting connected rooms on the interior side; however, I am going to call to see if we can get an early check-in... free, as in beer.

We will bring some games and minis stuff. SO far as I know, we have not really gone over what games we will bring aside from Battle Stations, Warhammer Quest, How many Kombat Kommander Drops, and perhaps Iron "Stain" Dragon. We can bring Battle Lore easily too since we will have the room. If there is something else you would like us to bring, give us a shout.

eLzar: Did you off the old terraineous maximus on jr0n's family? Or perhaps the trash bin? If no to both and you are still looking to rid yourself of the stuff and you have room, can you bring some of said crap up? If not, that is cool too.
