I've been playing some games lately too since even I'm tired of hearing myself talk about miniatures. After owning Halo 2 for months I'm finally playing it. It's all right, but in no way deserves all the 9.5/10 and 5 star ratings it got -- I'm convinced those ratings were sheer hype. Actually, the game is kind of boring. Looking forward to trying out the multiplayer though. My dream is to turn Jeep/Rocket Rodeo into a national phenomenom!
Only problem with AA, being that it's been out for a few years now, is that the cheat-factor is off the charts. Unless you hook up with a dedicated group of guys that run their own server against other dedicated groups of guys who are similarly-minded, you're going to have a hell of a time finding a fair fight. It sucks, yes. But, such is the way of Al Gore's Interwebnet.
Think what I like about dabbling with the FPSs again is that it's tons of short games (well, maybe under 10 mins a pop) and when I log, I don't feel like I'm missin out on lvling and all that other mmorpg crap.

AA Seems pretty ok so far. Neat that there's offline training you kinda need to do (to get on some servers at least.) It's the same as it was on the original version, and I didn't really like basic training much, but still pretty fun game. Only really know 2 maps, but they're fun. I usually die within the 1st few minutes without killin anyone, but occasionally I get someone.

Interesting thing about it is, there's 2 teams - US ARMY and GENERIC TERRORISTS. Thing is, know matter what side you join (assault or defense) you'll see your team as US and the other team as the Terrorists. Just figured that out, hehe. Guess they don't want people killin' US troops in a game or something.

Also, if this is a recruiting tool, it more than ever makes me never wanna join the military. It shows you how easily you can die. Why would this make me wanna signup? Haha. Nutz.

Was that a good movie?

- Ry and I watched The Last Starfighter just now. Some movie stones from our past are best left unturned.

- Funny .gif Jon! Totally reminded me of WoW! The LOL kind of funny!

- D/L'd America's Army just now. Gonna install and tell you what I think, cause really, it's all about what Eric thinks!
That was fuckin' classic Jon! The breath meter when Sam was drowning was just too fuckin much! (I got an email from Blizz offereing a friend a free 10-day trial if anyone wants to try it out again for 10 days - eric?) Also, d/l'd the latest Amerikkka's Army, and it's pretty cool! Free games that are good always rock. Newest version of it has a ton of Special Forces kinda maps. I like!

Yeah Myke! Let's see 'em!

While we're wait, let's all check this out? If the Ring Quest were done in WoW.
I Like Cake

So, Eric will be pleased because I actually tried to program my fantasy hockey team tonight. Must confess, parts of the strategy, and especially the 'ranking' system still elude me... it's hard to know which players are better or whether the team I have is as good as it's going to be, however, I feel more connected to the league now, and think it will be lots of fun. Hooray!

Jon and Enron - sorry I didn't reply straight away. Cool paintjobs! I haven't taken pictures of my pathetic attempts yet because I'm unsure of how to post pictures on teh blog. Oh, maybe its that thing that says picture at the top of the page? Yep, that's what is is... hmm, ok prepare to enjoy some FANTASTIC paint jobs... it's like I never knew how to paint. Sad, so many hours of youth spent on a skill only to lose it before the age of 30. So sad. Much like my accounting skills, but at least I can recover those... painting - I'm not so sure.

Johnny - I hope you're still alive! Are you coming to GenCon?
Art - Are YOU coming to GenCon? Come'on! The last time I saw you it was JP's Birthday party and the infamous 'Wheaties Box' made its final flight!
Ryan - How are your earthlings shaping up? Do you too feel that you've lost all of your painting skills? Maybe we should form a support group?

Dennis - lets' face it, you never read the blog... or at least you never post... but people in glass houses shouldn't, so I won't.

Rudy - It will be really good to see you at the Con. Hang in there man, we'll all survive easier one day.

Don't you think Saddam is looking quite dapper these days? I do. Him and Hal Fishman. Which reminds me, I ran past Mr. Joffe on the strand the other day... *he* did NOT look dapper at all.

Teh blog kills kittens and eats babies!

I wrote a long-ass post night before last, but now Blogger won't let me post! Hooray!

Retraction /wipe tears

I retract my previously posted bitter statement. I had just returned from spending 5.5 hours at a car dealership trying to get a car without taking it in the ass. I felt I had taken it only slightly, then left to get Leslie some food (in their rental car cause they wouldn't let me leave the lot with my own car...) and upon returning, they tried changing the deal again. Ass-hats.

So I was bitter, and took it out on the ones that I love. I know I was wrong because immediately after posting Ryan called me and told me to suck it cause he had made changes, they just wouldn't take effect until tomorrow, so I didn't see them. Then after hanging up with Ry, Enron called immediately, and asked a question about the league. So I was SUPER wrong! You guys do care! I love you all!

NOTE: Enron asked if you could program your team lineup days in advance rather than daily, and I said yes. You could program your team for the whole season after one sitting if you wish, just change to the next day, make your roster lineup, then submit changes, and do it all again. It will take you 5 minutes to make all the changes for the week, if that.

Also, BEFORE YOU PUBLISH YOUR POST, REMEMBER TO COPY ALL YOUR TEXT CAUSE BLOGGER JUST IMPLEMENTED A WORD VERIFICATION FEATURE THAT SEEMS TO NOT WORK SO WELL AND ATE MY POST, BUT IT ONLY SHOWS UP USING FIREFOX!!!!!! WTF??!?!?
Hockey /cry

If everyone wants to give me their login info, I can change all the players, and do all the drops/adds/etc. That way, I can enjoy the fantasy hockey league all to myself!

No one changed their players since the draft, and as a result everyone had players on the bench that could have earned them points, but did not.

Boo me.
Yeah, maybe on the video podcasts. Another thing I read (and which I agree with) was, portable tv's had already failed. How's this gonna be different? And the pricing scheme for tv shows so far (like $2 or $3 bucks) just seems kinda silly. Like one review said, you're better off buy the dvd set of the season so you can watch it uncompressed and not 2inches wide. We'll see. The idea of like mini-tvshows and other selfproduced stuff is pretty cool though.

Jesus Christ

I thought that PodCasting was going to be a powerful medium, I was mistaken. Sort of. The new video enabled iPods are going to BLOW THE DOORS off the entertainment world once people learn how to harness it.

Think small-scale movies, TV-like shows, videos, news, sports. Man, it's going to be really something cool once the public get their hands on it and starts PodVideoCasting.

Gonna be cool methinks!
Teams Are Drafted!

To see your players, select Tuesday from the dates. That is the day our league begins scoring, so that is when you can first see your players! Hooray! I'm gonna look at everyones rosters and see who is gonna win it all!

Man, there are some STRONG players available as free agents! Someone pick-up Hasek before it's too late! Ottawa has yet to lose with him in net!

/exciting for eric

/cry everyone else

EDIT: Heh. Art drafted the guy on the IR with Hepatitis A, the guy with a broken face out indefinately, and the guy who retired yesterday! Other than that, I think you still have one of the stronger teams! Replace Hull ASAP!
Friday 2.30pm...

... is when The Action Team assaults Castle Greyhawk at GenCon!!!! 6 people registered: Jon, Eric, Enron, Mike, Denis and Dave. Do it!

Thursday night after we pick up Jon, we should hit the True Dungeon pub at the Marriott and hopefully talk to some wizards sitting alone in the corner of the bar that look like they might have some rumors or adventure to offer some hearty adventure company like The Action Team!

ALSO, the fantasy league is all ready to go, so hopefully Yahoo will draft soon!

I am teh tired.

Beware team Chocolate Choad.

The Raiders suck balls.
Hooray, beer! (and hockey)

Okay. Here are some answers:

1) The draft is based on the Yahoo overall rankings of players from the last season played, and the projected performance of rookies (I think). They then generate a draft list which is the same for everyone. Then, at random, one of us is chosen as the first team to draft, then it goes like this 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 1, 2, etc. Feel free to edit any and all of your draft list based on personal preference/research. I'm not going to touch mine because I already have been following hockey and know a few things about some players that are doing well/crappy and/or are injured. Obviously, if one position is filled on your team, then the draft will then skip to the next roster spot available based on the next best player available.

2) Once the draft is completed, your team of players will show up when you click them from the league page. There will be drop boxes next to them asking if you want to place the player on the bench, or in the game for that night. Also, next to each player will tell you when and where that player is playing that night. So, it will either be an easy decision to play all your players that have games that night and bench those that don't, or you will have to make some decisions on who you wish to play and who to bench if, for example, you have three centers that are all playing that night, but only have roster spots for two; one will need to be benched.

These decisions can be changed up to an hour before the puck drops for each players game, I believe. Also, you can go day by day as far forward as you want to pre-set your lineups in advace so you won't have to think about them so often. This is convenient up until one of your players is on a cold streak or gets injured and you forget to change them out!

3) You can add and drop players from free agency at will, as long as all your roster spots are full of appropriate players, ie no more than 4 D, 3 C, 2 LW, etc. Again, I will wait until everyone makes a few changes before I do so that you guys get the first pick at available players.

4) You only score points for you team if you have that player in during a game. Meaning: Just cause Jeremy Roenick has 50 goals and is on the free agents list when you pick him up does not mean you get those 50 goals. You will only begin to earn points after you pick him up and add him to your active roster. There is some rule about goalies needing to play so many games before you score points with them, but I'm not sure what it is. Just draft and play some starters and you'll be fine!

Awesome!

Art, if you don't wanna play, that's cool. You got your football thang goin' on.

Nice team names everyone!
Ok, I'm in.

Could someone 'splain what I'm supposed to do now? Am I supposed to edit the draft list or something? Where does the default one come from? Am I supposed to use the rankings to assess players... I mean I understand how it works in terms of players scoring points on the basis of their performance in the games, but how do I tell who to choose? Obviously they're only going to get points if they play and I can't tell who is playing and who isn't. Help! I've never done this before!

How many PhD's from Cambridge does it take?... well, more than one obviously...

Myke
Dr. Byke

Go here for hot hot action. I dont know when Art will get to set up his team. I will bug him tonight if he gets in early enough from the Raiders game/Dinner. It may be until the day after tomarrow.

Me Bortz
Ok

Where? I see the password, username etc. but WHERE do I sign up?

MYKE
C'mon Mike and Art

Join the league tonight so we can draft tomorrow!
Sweet, Sweet Miniatures

So here are some shots of me and Enron's work. First of all I would like to show you Whitey Snakebitey, Necromunda character. This is the first miniature Enron painted in a while. I think you'll all agree, it is a brilliant piece of work and heralded well for his future as a talented artiste.

Here's another mini that he did today, a Chainmail Abyssal Devourer. It's cool but lacks the spirit of his earlier work.

Finally here is my WARMACHINE Ironclad. It is not perfect, but it's the first miniature I've really finished so I'm kind of proud of it. Yay, me!

Actiony Action Provided by the Action Team? Action Action!

That's our new motto.

Ran the financials, decided it was better to come down to the con Thursday night after work. Therefore, I'm coming in around 9:30 Thursday night. I'm even flying into Orange County airport to make the con even more accessible. Huzzah!!!
Im in.

I set my sweet team up.

Had a taste of the Raider world yesterday and now I am back to the comparitively mellow world SF. Went to an awesome barbacue restaurant in Jack London square. Damn that was grubbin food. I usually dont dig in that hard for barbacue sauce'd food but, WOW.
