Whatever you do, don't give your co-workers gift certificates to El Sombrero #1 in downtown Manhattan Beach...
it burned-the-fuck down!
Yeah, apperently on Tuesday morning about 4 am a fire that allegedly started at the restuarant took down almost the entire block where El Som used to stand. It took out Old Venice (the restaurant next door) and some clothing shop. We'll see if they rebuild. I went by there and the entire structure was totally gutted.

Back on the Internets at last
For the last week we've been in the process of moving and I've had no internet. What a brutal week. Who would've known that in that one small apartment we would've had over 50 boxes of junk (many of which are still parked in the living room). The place is close enough to the old place that we were able to just walk all the furniture there, but moving is never fun no matter what.
Still, it's done. Thanks again to Enron and Eyeball for the help. And the new place is a HUGE improvement over the old place... cleaner, bigger, nicer, generally better.
The craziest night was on Wednesday when we moved stuff continuously for 4 hours, I mean I was constantly in motion. I was wiped the next day but also noticeably toned. The upside was that I got to beat the shit out of a cabinet with a claw hammer to destroy it, that was fun.
They have finally gotten smart and converted me to permanent at work, so that's good... substantial raise plus no longer having to pay for my own benefits = huge raise. I've signed the paperwork and have to go to HR training and shit on Monday. After all this bullshit though I can't shake the feeling that it's gonna fall through somehow. My current theory is that it's gonna be like in Goodfellas, when Joe Pesci thinks he's finally going to get made, but instead they lead him into an empty room and shoot him in the back of the head.
Aeryk... you'll be happy to know that I've finally picked up a WoW deck. Huzzah! You may now address me as Elendril, Night Elf Hunter! I have an ancient bone bow and two tigers named Fury. To complete the WoW experience I vote that we play that mining sound on endless loop in the background, and boast to each other about our level 60 characters that are "in the card box I left at home." /spit
Actually I see the first Raid Deck (Onyxia) is coming out pretty soon. That's a cool idea. It's a preset 110-card deck that one player controls; the other players each control a hero and cooperate to take down the dragon. Neato.
I have a bunch of rambling to do about the Secret Santa we are doing at work but I have rambled enough, so I'll save it for another time! Sneak preview: Secret Santa can be dumb.

Oi! Dat's mi leg!
Okay, I will be in the fine land of LaLa for Xmas. I will get down there Friday the 22nd and returning on Wednesday the 27th. Sweet. Elzar I would be game for some hanging out time. I will probably have some time. We need to rock out ASL or Bonaparte at Degoba.
That is kewl that they are using Kopitar in the images there. He is sup4r sweet. I have been able to watch a couple of Kings games and I have been impressed with his skillz. That boy should have a bright future ahead of him. Lets hope the kings dont muss it up with him.
I have been busting out the Belgium Brewing (Fat Tire brewery) and Winter Hook. Good stuff. Love the seasonal brews.
Rude: That is a awesome Mr T picture. Mr. T and his antithesis. I wanted to see Coffee and Cigs, but it filled up befiore I could get tickets at the film festival a couple festivals ago. I did see the Gza, Rza, Murray scene though. Was pretty cool.

FYI...
...my previous post was showing some tagging going on in LA that uses Anze Kopitar from the LA Kings as it's subject, a la OBEY/Andre has a posse. It is radicool!
- Wow, cracked has gone from a Mad magazine ripoffs targeted at kids to an online satire site that is clearly targetted at early 20 somethings and uses swear words. I remember how scandalous it was seeing little, teeny, tiny boobies in the margin art by Sergio Aragones. How times have changed.
- Winter brews are out in stores now, I am enjoying a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale as I type. My favorite is Ole Fezziwig by Sam Adams. Try it! Delicious!
- Xmas will be in MB for me this year, no travel at all (except for a visit to my dads on xmas day)! So that means if any of you out of town mooks wanna get together, we gotta do it!

I had a super-hero movie craze this weekend, so finally got to see all the recent movies I'd missed in the theater.
Superman Returns: I thought it was good. Great FX. While I'm watching it, I really had the sense that we're getting to the point with special fx that you really CAN'T tell that it's not real. Then I think it'll come down to how you setup the scenes and act em out etc. There was a really rad scene in the beginning where he's trying to save a plane, and it looked great. Um, I just really don't care for the Superman character. So lame. At least on Smallville he doesn't know all his powers, and there's still some sense of purpose to it all (haven't watched that show in a couple of years though.) Like I'm watching Kent pretend to work at the Daily Planet and I'm thinking "How many people are getting killed n shit right now while he's acting all pussy-whipped over stupid Lois?" Jesus dude, she's COOL but you're SUPERMAN, you can have ANY chick in the world.
X3: So after watching Superman, I watched the last X-Men cause I'd missed it. It's weird, the effects weren't as good. Couple of times you can totally see the fuzzyness of the effects and that kinda killed it for me. What I don't like about the X-Men universe (at least in the films, don't know the books) is that there are MILLIONS of fucking mutants. Mutants protesting in the streets n shit. So cheesy to me. And Wolverine is such a little bitch in this one. "I love you Ant-Man, please be safe!" Yeah, whatever dude. It had it's ok moments, but honestly, I think that whole trilogy is just kinda booty. I just don't like the setting.
And then finally, I just finished Fantastic Four. Kinda some cheapy SFX in it too. Not horrible, but Superman definately had the best of the bunch. FF was ok. I liked all the actors OK, but really, not a whole lot seemed to happen in this one. Yeah, I know, they have to do the origin story in the 1st one, but that was really it. They get powers, Doom gets evil, they have a super short fight, and that was the whole flick!
In conclusion, I think they just need to do some Marvel Universe movies (but you're not superman!? Batman is cool, he don't need a DC Universe movie.) It'd be cool to see Spidey, with SOME of the X-Men and the FF fight some of the REAL bad guys.
I had also watched "Coffee and Cigarettes" this weekend. Some of the segments were kinda good, some were absolutely horrible. Meh, it's artsy, so I wasn't really dissapointed or nothing. The Rza, Gza, Bill Murray scene was surprisingly funny. "Bill Groundhog-Day, Ghostbustin'-ass Murray!"
Jesus, I also watched Lost in Translation. I liked it. Way too many movies this weekend, huh!? I just don't have no games to play, still worked on music, but there's a lot of hours in the day! Went to a used bookstore kinda near Eric's house (next to where Big Wok is now) and picked up a few books. The 2nd book of Neil Stephenson's after Quicksilver (got the hardcover for 8 bucks, and actually scored the hardcover for the 3rd book at a Barnes n Noballs the other day for 7 bucks - kinda beatup copy in the discount piles.) And got "Puppet Masters" by Heinlein (never read it) and that book called "Red Mars" that I had wanted to read in highschool and never got around to it.
Well, that's my entry for the year! See ya guys in '07 and keep on juggling!
PS By the way, some of those superhero movies took me like 4 hours to finish, cuz I kept pausing em to look up the characters on wikipedia! There's like insane amounts of info on every fucking stupid superhero comic character on there, giving you their whole fucking life stories, alternate realities, crossovers, etc etc. It gets addicting! There'd be some bullshit shmuck side-villian in X3 and I'd look it up, and go off on weird tangents about Secret Wars 2 n shit! FUN!
