Golf for Enlightenment?

This book, oh my god. Now truly IS the time to make that coffee-zen-book-SECRAT-thingy.

Calling all carz

Since you dont check yer email that often, Elrick: What does the jazascript u have in this webpage do? I'm trying to figure it out between the book u lent me and messing around with HotMetal, but I'm still a little lost. Also, style-sheets are kinda throwing me for a batmantheride-loop - I think I understand the concept, but in THIS page you made "actionstyle" style sheet- what did you put in it? Sorry- maybe some of you gyros-of-teh-gnet can help- THANKS.

ADDED: In the process of answering my own questions, I came across this cool looking site called Code Punk where they've got a lot of tutorials on html stuff (including javascript coding) - so, I'll be checking it out, put please still help poor steverimsteve!
Phoenix is...

Pheonix(AKA Firebird) is mozilla browser code that has been revamped, cleaned, and stripped of non-essential features. Mozilla was good, but it just got to sluggish after a while and loaded with extra schtuffen. Phoenix has No mail, no crap, less bloat. They are still in beta mode, but I find that it is as stable as IE. It has all the compatibility (HTML, CSS, XML, DHTML, etc..) of mozilla 1.2 or netscape 7.2, but is a lot faster. It does still have a few quirks, but it is really strong for a 0.5 release. They are trying to put out 0.6, but they are having a name issue. Trademark BS.

A-Oort
yup- it crashed!

you dont remember them? yeah, its real- i used to have their 1st album "the menudo incident" and i just saw an ad for this one and thought it was pretty funny.

Boozilla
I had the regular mozilla on my comp, and it seemed just like Netscape- isn't it the same thing kinda? Is this phoenix one any better? They mention "multiple home pages" - that sounds pretty sweet!

IE rules... Oh wait no.

This is cool. If you want to see IE crash, guaranteed.. In five lines of html code? Check this out. Go IE. More reason to download Phoenix, a lean mean browser.

Rudy where did you run across that. Is that a real album?

Maybe this'll cheer you guys up:

pretty funny!

ID Theft v2

Sorry I have not blogged in a while. Been busy.

Yeah Elric, I feel your vein. I too have been stung. In conjunction with the Auto theft I had I was forced to close two CC accts and block the crap out of my two Checking Accts. The reason I did not close the two checking accts is that I had some outstanding bill checks floating about. But I had them restrict wire transfers and all the checks stolen. One account I got closed okay; but the other, well.. Booooo.. Even though I had checks 140-150 blocked, 140, 144, 147, & 148 went through anyway. Appearently the bank fucked up and set the wrong block. Great. Now I have 532 dollars locked up in fraud research. Gotta love the scum that lives off the rest of us because they have nothing better to do. And yet again the old addage, 'good guys finish last' holds true. Fuckers Jerks... Oh if you do not already know about this, try calling 1.877.438.4338. That is the FTC Id Theft number. I have not called it yet but, they may be able to give you some four11.

Ummm DB design, I am very familiar with design theory and farily good at executive work for DB design at least with SQL+ and Access(Although it has been a bit with SQL). I have used ODBC interfacing through VB programming and it was pretty easy, but no other programming experience. DB online: I have had nil experience aside from very basic perl DBs, so I am not really a good resouce for any frontend programming/interfacing questions. SQL server usage: only design and end user on Oracle 8. Admin on SQL none. Why Ju Ask Mo Fo?

Jo Job is what? Okay today I did about 40 minutes of real work. In the order of time consumption, the balance of my work day consisted of Chatting it p with the co-workers, playing cards (Paigow, Poker, Spades, Solitare, and Crazy 8's), listening to and sharing musical recomendations, sleep, eating, shitting. Great. The whole week has been like this. Not really a good sign. In fact our supervisor let two of us leave 1hr 15min early each day and still clock in at a full 8 hrs. I get the feeling that if this keeps up we will have a little fat trimming. D'oh! Job market is for shit here!

It's pronounced NuKe-uLer.

PS Johnny, that sounds like a plan on the terraineous maximus.
The ID Thief Strikes Again

So the most recent attack has come in the form of a returned check from Robinsons/May in North Hollywood. Leslie's name and address were used in conjunction on a check with a guy named Kevin Chase. After some research, apparently Leslie and Kevin had an account with Technology Credit Union in Silicon Valley, wrote some checks, and then canceled the account. So it seems that the Kevin guy had his shit stolen too and closed some accounts too. The thing is that the chick at the TCU had no record of Leslie anywhere in their database, not her DL# (which was handwritten on the check, along with her "signature"), not her address, nothing. So it seems that the culplrit fuckhead DOCTORED checks, without actually opening any accounts. What the fuck. We finally spoke to a human being that was not "out of the office" in the West Hollywood PD, and they transferred us to another human being that told us there were 12,000 cases of ID theft in LA along last year, and only 5 detectives in ALL of LA to deal with those cases. The best thing for us to do is to keep copies of everything and in the future when this fuckingshitbag tries more things we can have ahuge file proving that we are not at fault to fax anyone who wants to know. Terrific. At least its good to know there are crimes that seriously are risk-free. I mean, we have video tape, eyewitness accounts, fingerprints (if anyone wanted to take them at the time), a paper trail, among other bits of evidence, that could be used to nab these fuckingassholeshitbagcocksuckersjerkz if anyone wanted to pursue the matter, and still nothing has been done. It just gets me thinging, whats the worst thing that could happen to me if I started ID theft? I'd probably get hit by the ONE sting operation a decade the Gov't launches to "keep ID theft at bay". Lucky me.

Message to Bobby McOilbaron Killen

How much do you recall about setting up databases? With an ODBC connection? With a web (or program) based output for running reports? SQL servers? Also, hi!

So pissed... I went to watch one of the Simpsons episodes on TiVO tonight and it was apparently prempted by a speech from our beloved president. How stupid are we??? Let's start with the commander in chief- he said NU-CU-LAR instead of NU-CLEAR. Wow!

I miss Vegas.
Ok....so I was just trying to get some morals across

an impressionalble young 15 year old mind and failed miserably. I think there's no curbing teenage morality, however corrupted our society has molded and instilled in their minds. I guess all the teenage people just think about being gangsters, thugs, and have lots of sex. Sigh... I guess we were like that? Or is it just me that it seems we weren't like that?

J
As Paul Barr would say,

"Duuuuuuuuuuuuude, Johnny!" I'm NOT going to San Fran this weekend. I was going to be going, but then I would have missed my 2nd Salsa class on Sunday (www.rudyssalsaclass.com), so I opted to miss the trip. Where's the love Jael, where..?

(even my fucking cat has a job!)

PS: Speaking of PB-Max, anyone heard from him lately?

CMON!! don't be retarded...

That's totally absurd and wrong! The sun is not closer than the moon, please... Everyone KNOWS that that's a trick question, both are equal distance. That's why every year we have one of those eclipse thingys when they collide and then a new moon and new sun appears. DUH!

So, I was reading that review on the bike, Brialliant... I wonder who that guy was? where did he come from? Man.... such pizzazz, brilliance, and idiom.

So I want to go to santa Crud this weekend. Apparently rudy is coming to SF, with his best bud dorian, but is not visiting his other buds...OKAY! Anyhow, the weather should be great, with all the rainyness hopefully out of the ecosystem. Any Takers from SF?

Remember Nuts?
Remember?

Remember those guys Ryan, Aaron and Mike? Those were great guys.

How Fucking Stupid Are We?

So I was doing work and looked at msn.com for testing purposes, and saw one of their daily features that read: Check Your Space I.Q. What's closer to the Earth, the Sun or Moon?

This is ridiculous. I might not be able to spell everything correctly all the time, I might be poor at Algebra, and I might not be able to split atoms, but for Christ's sake, I know the Sun is closer to the Earth than the Moon is.

Coming soon...

I bought a domain name the other day- its kinda corny, but i couldn't think of much else on the spur (it was an impulse buy) but i needed a place to be the eventual online home for my music. Bum badda bum: www.cafebeats.com . Yeah, we'll see how that goes. I'm using DotEasy which seems pretty cool- FREE hosting (its only 20 megs though) with NO popups or ads- i also reg'd my name through them, which cost $25 bucks (a year), but otherwise, no monthly costs, and if for some reason I need boo-koo space, they offer all kinds of wierd upgrade options. Eh. So, thanks to Elrick, King of Dork Tower, for lending me these html books- easy enough to follow, but I discovered one important detail: a webpage needs CONTENT. I don't know what the hell to put on it. :(
In other extremely important and super-exciting news, I bought a new keyboard at Fry's - $5.99 baby! It works like a chamr (sic) !

Added: Ok, started doing some shit with the site- I already asked Elrick if I could copy THIS site to start with, so yeah- its a cheap ripoff (and non of the links go anywhere) but i'm trying. I was just looking at your site Myke- looks awesome. If you don't mind, maybe i can steel some ideas of of you too!

Rocks On My Butt

So... I'm alive... just barely. I rode my bike TWICE today- once to the gym in the morning, and once to the library in the afternoon. It was pretty cool. I pretty much stuck to the sidewalk- the street is pretty scary. Bike held up ok. Bang! Pebble! Blood. Not really! I don't know if it was the solid-steel seat that came with the bike, or the fact I haven't ridden in so long, but my buttocks was hurting. SO bad. Fun though!
Dark Tower

- I just played my first game of Dark Tower evar, and it was fun, albeit frustrating. Everytime I went over to a friends house when I was a kid, and they had the game it was either a) missing too many pieces to play, b) no one knew the rules or c) broken cause the kid took the tower in the bathtub with him. So now, I finally got to play after kinda reading through the rules on that guys website. Fun! I made it to my last territory, then on subsequent moves, attacked by brigands, dragon attack, lost, plague, attacked by brigands and then death, which was enough to kill me. Boo. All that work and dead brigands and dragons to my name and then I bite the big one steps away from the Dark Tower.

- Sorry Jon, I got in last night around 9.30, so no BattleCry. I called you at work today but you were not there. So howabout we play this Thursday! Yay!

I took all your guysez advice,

but I still bought a cheapo Kmart special. It might kill me. Hopefully not. Its a Huffy Moutain(sic) Stone Range Fire Supar Zoom V4XC2241, or something like that- it was $75 after tax. Looks cool! Seems to ride ok- haven't really put it to the test or anything, but fuck it. If I like it and if I ever get a job, then I'll definately go for a real bike next time. God, I don't wanna die because of a cheap bike or an asshole driver. Fuck, I need a job.

The only place I really plan I riding it for now is to the 24hour Fitness because its a straight shot 1-mile away drive that can be mellow (if I keep to the residential streets) and maybe to Ralphs which is across the street from 24hour Fitness. Also, there's supposedly cool trails up at Griffith Park, but I don't wanna risk killing my Moutain Elk-Mastar 3. We'll see!

I Found This Review

Hey, Rudy I found this review some guy posted on the internet about his new Trek4300 2003 bike he just bought. Check it out, it might help....

Review: Trek 4300 2003 and Riding to Work

Just bought a brand new Trek4300 2003 model. It's pretty sweet for the price tag. For 350 bucks (including tax), it is a lot better than the walmart brands of bikes that I saw in workmanship and quality of parts. Although the Walmart bikes are 100 dollars cheaper. I'll never go to another department store for a bike again. The gears were hard to shift and you can just tell people slapped them together without any fine tuning or precise craftmanship. I'm not a fan of mountain biking or anything that requires too much physical exertion but luckily I just plan to ride this puppy around town.

Bike Grade: A

On the other hand riding to work was not as pleasant as I thought. The last time I rode a bike was in high school, and my pleasant thoughts were of green front lawns, stop signs, nicely shaped hills, and Mira costa. This morning, however, I faced the onslaught of early morning commute with speeding vehicles, commercial streets and smog and dust that filled my lungs. It was sadly not quite what I imagined it to be.

My goal was to get some excercise every morning. Since I only live about 5 miles to work, I figure I could get there in half an hour. Well that was before I was nearly killed crossing the freeway on ramp, and getting stranded on an island in the middle of a major intersection until an "expert" mexican rider lead me to safety. I pretty much just followed another biker. It was definitely different and a new experience for me. I think I'll try this biking thing a few more times and maybe see if I can overcome these new challenges.

Excercise Value of Biking: A+ (i can really see this getting me down to a good weight)
Biking to Work: C-
Almost getting killed: F
my tattoo reads "SUCK MY COCK YOU WHORE." But it's not on my left arm. It's on my cock. Suck my cock tattoo that says suck my cock, James Frey, you whore.

Heh. Neal Pollack's got a funny story up making fun of this Salon article on this writer James Frey. God, I've never read this guys book "A Million Little Pieces" , but if hes at ALL serious about himself in that Salon article, then Jeebus. Don't be that kinda writer Jon (or, yes.)

I know I'm behind the times but Something Awful is funny

Here is a Yablonski "I Hate" entry hacked by Jeff K.:

set sails for fagot

- writtan by Jeff K.

Funny.

Another Option

Of course you are going to get some crappo bikes from K-Target, but you get what you pay for, unless you can score at a police auction. They usually happen once a month or so, and there are tons of unclaimed, stolen bikes for cheap. Check it.

Do You Like SARS Alot?

From Something Awful with regards to SARS:

"No, I'm not referring to Madonna's "American Life" CD, I'm talking about SARS, the invisible, tasteless, odorless killer which can suffocate any of us in our homes while we sleep. Wait, I think that's actually natural gas or maybe a murderous ghost with a ghost pillow."

Murderous Ghost and Ghost Pillow?!?!? Holy shit, thats funny!
Really good point

That's funny that you mentioned the shitty assembly job you can get from a retailer (although $10 an hour is actually more than I made at the trillion-dollar studio.) My buddy Dore just bought himself a mountain bike from Kmart, and he said when he took it home, one of the pedals fell off! So, he took it back, and they gave him a properly assembled one. What a hassle though!

BUT, I really can't afford $250 right now- I wish I could! I can barely afford the $100 bucks I'm planning on spending. On epinions, I saw a review for a Huffy mountain bike that seemed pretty honest- the guy said it was pretty cheap, but he said its good enough for a bike that if it got stolen, you wouldnt freak out. Heh- maybe not the only criteria I should be looking at. Also, the huffy is made of steel which I guess is cheaper than the aluminum that better bikes are made off, but it makes it way heavier.

I'll update once I've gotten one. (Just looked up your bike- looooks cool dude!)

some addy on biksorz

Hey El Riablo, I got me a bike 4 months ago and did quite a bit of researchin. This may or may not help, but won't hurt. I knew going in, I wanted to buy a mountain bike, i didn't like the speed bikes and didn't want the old land cruiser bikes. My next criterea was that I didn't want to spend $$$ on it, becuz 1) i don't mountain bike, and 2) I just needed to bike occasionally. (to date I've ridden my bike like 4 times) So the best article I found was on e-pinions.com. I'll just summarize the article. Basically there's two places you can buy bikes, 1 is at a retail discounter such as Walmart, kmart, target, or you can buy your bike at a specialty shop. The article deters you from option 1 because 1) retailers in order to cut cost uses the shittiest parts, but makes the bikes look like a million bucks with lots of neat paint and design. Your buying a good lookin piece of shit. 2) it's assembly is in the back of the warehouse, built by some 15-16 year old 10 dollar an hour kid who can care less about the stupid bike he builds. That's why when your buying it from one of those places, it's a crap shoot. some are assembled properly, and some not.

So it goes without saying, option 2 is the way to go. The cheapest bike there will probably run you about 250 bucks, but you'll get decent parts, and properly assembled and well oiled bikes, and most shops offer lifetime tuneups so if you ever need oiling, adjustments, they'll do it for ya. My experience with the shop was great. I went in asking for the cheapest mountain bike, and about 250 bucks I got a 2003 TREK mountain bike.

Man On Salsa-Class

I had my first salsa class on Sunday! Heh, it was pretty sweet. I had to dance with one lady who was kinda mean to me (she was TRIPPIN) but otherwise, I danced the morning (9:30am) away with MI(wouldn't)LFs and actually a few chicks that were close to my age and cute.

Haven't had any luck with getting a bike yet. Went to Target, and the bike that looked cool advertised wasnt there- I think I'll try K-Mart next. Went to a Bike store, and those bikes were like $2k. Doh!

It Only Took 3 Years

...and countless mentions, descriptions and rave reviews for Jon to play and enjoy Battle Cry. Now my motivation to finish the miniatures version is complete. I shall make it so by tomorrow. Tee hee.. But on a kinder, gentler note, I would love to play Battle Cry with you any night of the week Jon, just give me a hollar and we'll strap on our beards and start amputatin' legs with rusty handsaws!

- Anyhoo, not a big surprise about Kublacon, but I am still in! And I think (P)Denis is still in too! Though I have not spoken with him in quite a while.

- Went to Vegas with R Dub this weekend. Discovered Baccarat. Ruled it. Came home winners. Try it here! There is no skill involved in the card play as it is all automatic, but there is skill involved with your betting. Outside of that it is all about feeling, vibe, and instinct. It rules. Also saw lots of big boobs and numerous Goths that were attending a convention (Convergence 9).

- Jael and Enron playing fun miniatures games without me!?!? How dare you! Oh yeah, I don't live anywhere near yooz guys anymore and no one here plays miniatures games... *hurrumph*

- Riding bikes is awesome! An old friend (Zak Langley) bought a Target special 10-speed, and had that thing for years. It survived various spray paintings, one car accident, countless nights in the rain, and at least 5 bike accidents (at least two of them with me). It finally broke after a particulary nasty off-roading crash, and we laid it to rest in a dumpster. Good bike, I hope you have the same luck with yours Rude.

- (To Mike and a less extent Enron and Jael) There is a new Warhammer CCG that seems pretty fun. It somewhat emulates unit combat, and has all the spiky bits of both card games, and WHFB. It's called War-Cry, and is kinda fun (by myself anyway). Neither of you will take the time to a)read this, b) click on the link, or c) ever buy or try the game, but I still thought I should throw it out there.

- I miss Blood Bowl. And games. I am free this sunday FOR SURE to play D&D or whatever.
All Is As It Was, Except This Time YOU Are In Command!

So, I picked up BattleCry for $20. They're cutting the price of some of the AH games (including Acquire and Diplomacy, and I think Cosmic Encounter) at Gamekeeper, which is owned by WoTC. So, if you want any of those games, go nuts! I've never actually played the game but seeing as you guys enjoy it so much, I said, eh. I played the First Bull Run battle (by my lonesome) and had a good time! So Eric, gimme a call some day and we'll put on our fake beards.

In other news, I gotta go to work.

Note for aronovichsky:

hey man, I've got an idea for the trees. Under the electro grass mat, we can glue a small piece of sheet metal under, then for the trees we can glue a magnetic sheet on the base. Then we can just place the magnetic trees on the designated spots on the mat. Instant trees!
