The ID Thief Strikes Again

So the most recent attack has come in the form of a returned check from Robinsons/May in North Hollywood. Leslie's name and address were used in conjunction on a check with a guy named Kevin Chase. After some research, apparently Leslie and Kevin had an account with Technology Credit Union in Silicon Valley, wrote some checks, and then canceled the account. So it seems that the Kevin guy had his shit stolen too and closed some accounts too. The thing is that the chick at the TCU had no record of Leslie anywhere in their database, not her DL# (which was handwritten on the check, along with her "signature"), not her address, nothing. So it seems that the culplrit fuckhead DOCTORED checks, without actually opening any accounts. What the fuck. We finally spoke to a human being that was not "out of the office" in the West Hollywood PD, and they transferred us to another human being that told us there were 12,000 cases of ID theft in LA along last year, and only 5 detectives in ALL of LA to deal with those cases. The best thing for us to do is to keep copies of everything and in the future when this fuckingshitbag tries more things we can have ahuge file proving that we are not at fault to fax anyone who wants to know. Terrific. At least its good to know there are crimes that seriously are risk-free. I mean, we have video tape, eyewitness accounts, fingerprints (if anyone wanted to take them at the time), a paper trail, among other bits of evidence, that could be used to nab these fuckingassholeshitbagcocksuckersjerkz if anyone wanted to pursue the matter, and still nothing has been done. It just gets me thinging, whats the worst thing that could happen to me if I started ID theft? I'd probably get hit by the ONE sting operation a decade the Gov't launches to "keep ID theft at bay". Lucky me.
