Some Stuff

- Okay, so on ebay people are auctioning off gMail accounts. WTF? I thought this gmail thing was free? Whatever. I have a gmail account too now Rudy, first.last@gmail.com. Neat.

- May Day is a celebration of the working class, labor party, and artist, which of course W is against, so check out what he did last year. This guy is an absolute fucking asshole. I hate every molecule in his being. Ugh. Freedom fucking Fries.

- I think it would be a good idea if we took two cars to Kublacon. Hear me out. I think the Scion is a kick ass car, and I actually am contemplating selling the truck and getting one, no shit, but I just don't trust it to take three large and one small guy, plus gear over the grapevine and not break down a la Ryan's van style. So I am thinking we should caravan with my truck just to be safe. It will still be a fun road trip, just caravan style! I can't wait!

- It will be good to get you back in town Manders. Do you think there will be work here for you? Or are you planning on our ancient coin business to take off?
30...

Myke: You and I will be the firsts to turn it this winter Myke. Ick. I have been a bit apprehensive about the milestone of 30. Especially, given my current career situation. Mine has been exaspirated by the feeling of standing still while most people are well into their careers.

Speaking of which, I think I am going to be in LA the weekend before my B-Day.. Halloween weekend. My Mother is going to be having a big bash for her 50th and perhaps I will roll my 30th into that as well. Ill keep you all in the know when I have more four11.

As far as computer games go, I have to agree with all about the cost of time. They can really suck away time from you that could be used for more productive things. On the other hand they are great in moderation. When we are young, we dont know how to moderate. In comes the parental units' job.

Sion's, Servitude, Computer Chastity and turning 30

Good luck with the deal Rudy, eating something is always better than nothing, and it's a first step into another world! Wish I could meet up with you all at Sion's to celebrate, or to just drink a few bevi's. Here, I finished my last research book yesterday - which of course doens't really mean the research is over, but does mean it's virtually over! Now to convert those 70,000 words of notes into about 40,000 words of flowing academic bullshit, and I'll nearly be out of here. Not to say that Cambridge hasn't been great, but I'm getting that overwhelming feeling that it's time to go, time to come home, or something like that. Being here has sort of been like getting an extended undergraduate career, but I'm feeling like it's time to grow up again.

As for computer game chastity, I have to concur that it is the time lost to them that is the true cost... simple economics really, but also a scathing commentary on the world today - if losing time to computer games involves losing our chastity, doesn't that mean we were all UNDERAGE at the time. Perhaps computer games should be restricted to those over the age of consent!

So, DND is 30. We're all nearly there too, as I am constantly reminded by rowing with a bunch of 18-24 year olds. Any of you feeling mildly wigged out about this? I am in deep rebellion, refusing to believe that it's true, but living with the dawning horror of my own age. Strange but true. I think it will be better once I'm in the 'real' world again.

Ah, Civilization. I remember you and Matt Z. routinely getting scores of like 106% while I could barely struggle and get an 80%. Remember changing the text files to the introduction? Stupid high school stuff... :)

Anyway, I'm afraid your Computer Game Chastity Non-Violation theory is incorrect, because the amount of money that you put into purchasing a video game is minimal compared to the thing of real value that you expend, which is your valuable TIME. So if you're going to break your vows, you might as well be a man and admit it with your hard-earned dollars!

The board for the game is purty. The pieces are simple, but nice enough. They're wood. There are footman, knight, and ship units. The footman symbols resemble a human shoulders/head and the knight looks like a horse head, sort of like a chess piece. The ships look like they've had their masts lopped off. I would have preferred the ship pieces to come with masts as well as sails, rigging, and cannon, but I guess that might have raised the cost to Cashflow-level amounts.

I'm afraid I'm out of dilk. Alas!
looks like a cool game!

A game of thrones (not so great name) but it has a nice board, didn't see pictures of the pieces. Definitely one in my alley! Bring it to the con!

I was gonna go out and spend real money on civilization 3 and it's 2 eggspansions. Its features include Real time multiplayer on a turn based strat game (interesting) and fond memories from high school. Civ 1 by micropose was a great game. Civ 3 by atari promises to be BETTER! =D But I can't seem to break my vow of computer game chastity, so if anyone has a copy let me know... =d (BTW, getting a game for free is like free sex and therefore does not count toward the CGC.)

got dilk?
Tonight I'm meeting up with that label guy - the deal sounds good - indentured servitude for about 12 years, BUT I can eat a portion of the shit I grow on the land. Awesome! If you guys game sunday, lemme know! Geh!

Either of you guys want to hit up Sion's for dinner tonight or something?

I believe that I will be meeting up with the lady friend at 9:00 or so, but up until then I am free as a bird. She's eating garlicky Italian food, so if I've eaten super-oniony Mexican food, it's a taste sensation.

I picked up a new wargame, the board game based on Game of Thrones. It looks something like a medieval version of Diplomacy, minus the extreme tension.

I have out swim team awards banquet tomorrow night. It shouldn't go too late, so I am up for some heavy drinking tomorrow night... maybe listen to some F.Y.P

Aaron- BLOOD BOWL???
Hey Eric/Ryan/Rudy, are you guys going to be doing anything tonight/tomorrow/Saturday?

Been a long week. I could -definitely- use some beer drinking/margarita making/Hockey game watching/whatever.
Motorbyke

Well I am both happy and sad. Sad that you didnt get the position that you were persuing, but simultaneously and selfishly glad in that you will be more geographically accessable to us. Sounds like it is a really competitive field. As far as winter goes, man I have been sweating to the oldies here. Its been in the 80s for the past 5 or 6 days. Unusual for SF. LA has had a few toasty days as well, although it looks like it is supposed to cool off today.

Cheers for Beers
SUCK!

So, I just got told that my Junior Research Fellowship application at Corpus was finally rejected - fuggers!. I guess you'll have to put up with me coming back to the US after all, course, that makes 11 for 11 applications rejected. Who knew that competition was fierce for overworked, underpaid, and gut wrenching jobs? First, got a little writin' to do...

Why is it still winter here?

Just a short note before I plunge into the library again. Btw it's lunchtime here fore me... well, 2pm, close enough. Rude- I finally checked out your stuff - really cool! I liked the samples and the website was great too, especially your branding titles and images! Oarsome!

So, it was sunny and nice here for about 2 days, and now, it's shit again. Remember, reality is shit, and Seiiiii-ber space is god, so perhaps I shouldn't complain. Nearly finished with my research! Quite pumped about it actually as it will mean I don't have to go spend any more days in that fluorecent, still room with the annoying librarians. Wahoo! Now, all I've got to do is write 50,000 words by June, piece of cake.

Supersize My Cholesterol

Ja - eL: I didnt get to see it. They sold out the tickets, which I knew, but I got there too late to Rush it (Kinda like crashing a class). The line was already too long. It looks really good though. After seeing the line Aimey and I decided to wait until it comes out in May. Besides it will be cheaper, but I really would have liked to hear the Q&A from the guy in the movie. I guess he is really funny.

Ry: Aimey has a paper she is working on tonight. She is in the middle of paper crunch for the semester. If anything changes at the last minute I will throw you a post on the Blog.

Enronian, did you ever watch that documentary at the sundance film festival? Apparently the movie is premiering may 7th, I will be watching and so that is the latest buzz. Don't tell me how it goes, but let me know if it's worth watching (as much as the hype is marketed).

Hey Enron Bobby McOilbarron (or whatever),
We need to finish our game! When will be good for you? We need to see who faces Elrick in Teh Finals. Let me know when you want me to school you, mmmkay?
Final Fantasy Tactic Advance

This game for the GBA is the SHIT! OMG, I haven't wasted so much time on a game in forever, but I'm lovin' it! It's weird cuz I usually really tire of combat in console rpgs (and computer ones for that matter) and FFTA is pretty much 90% fighting, with the other 10% spent on team management (buying shit for them, sending some of them off on quests, etc.) It's really weird, but the game is super fun and addictive. It also looks great and I think there's seriously like over 200 missions (read: fights pretty much.) Rad game. I never played it on the Playstation, and I guess the gba version changes some stuff (relating to story, and controls) but nonetheless, it fucking rocks! Biggest gripe I have with it is that 1, I don't have a manual for it (playing the rom) so I've had to figure out a lot of shit (tons of site about it though) and since you spend so much time navigating menus, the limited number of gba buttons can kinda suck. But once u get the hang of it, it rocks.

Cool article about dnd! Heh- We're almost 30 too! Yikes.

D&D turns 30

There is a decent article on the BBC website about it.

Dope-Ass Veggy Restraunt

I just went to this really good vegetarian restraunt in Redondo Beatch. It was called The Green Temple and it was over in a really fancy part of redondo I've never been in - near the beach, but farther south than I've ever been. It was GOOD. Prices were cool too. Gotta catch em all guys! Gotta!

Stocking Sex Toys?

Elrock: If you are going that route, you should name the store, "Live Nude Nuds Games" or perhaps "Girl Talk Games".

Mikal the Pickle: Good luck on the PhD action. When is your ETA for completion? Or at least when is the next time we are going to see your butt?
