Why does fucking Blogger make me log in like every week or whatever!? Does this shit REALLY need to be that secure!?

ANYWAYS, I've been doing tons of weird and goofy events lately because of meetup.com - it's good! It's not about dating although you can use it for that. They have like gaming groups and weird shit too (but I'll stick you you guys!) I've been using it for awesome hiking trips and then today I did some massive bike ride through pasadena, I'm SO burnt. It was super fun though and I feel tired but good. I think it was 11 miles.

I've been on a roll doing shit, so probably tomorrow I'll let myself chill out. I'm on vacation till after the con so I'm gonna try and come up with some fun adventures for the week.

| What's Everyone Up to This Weekend?

Me:

- Hanging out with my girlfriend, since she's been out of town for a week. Probably we'll make some pasta tonight and make breakfast tomorrow.
- Painting some miniatures. I have the Necromunda Goliaths over halfway done, it's just the metal stuff, some washes and some highlights left to go! I should finish them this weekend. I might even be able to get started on the Orlocks.
- Playing Dark Spire. I'd put it down for a while but got the bug again... I'm up on the 4th level, and getting my butt kicked. Unlocked a new area in the Basement, and getting my butt kicked there. Clearly some grindage is required.
- Going to the storage unit to pick up the Exalted stuff that I'm selling, and despair at the amount of crap I still have left.

| rudy's advice is teh goodz

The Mage's sleep spell and fireball spells are the shit. I also go with the one-in-front combat fuck style. The fighter's got a one-handed weapon and shield, in the first round the priest casts a lower AC spell on him. Most attacks are gonna bounce off the fighter with that combo. The rogue plinks away (I haven't found backstab useful, either) and the mage uses sleep or fireball as appropriate. Sleep is awesome because guys who are sleeping are easy to hit and take double damage. Much like Myke's sleep spell effect in our last 4th ed game, in fact....

The basement is kind of a red herring right now. You're better off exploring the 2nd floor and doing the heirloom quest first. One tip, you'll want one person to have the gambling skill you can get at 3rd level, see if any of your guys can get it. If not, get the pre-made mage douchebag and level him up to 3 and use him for a little bit. I'm not sure but I think all the 500 xp skills are useful while the 1000 xp skills are just jokes.

Also, did you find the statue with the bare head yet? I wasted a lot of time looking for like a magical hat or some shit to use with it before I found out that you can just slap any old helmet on it. That opens up a really big chunk of the dungeon.
I think I finished one or two other quests but they're pretty long and have a bunch of steps. I barely got my guys up to level maybe 6 or so. In the basement you can blow through the skeletons for lots of xp. Think you mage has a fire AE that will just wipe em out pretty easily. Another thing to remember for your casters is that you can change what spells you have "learned" for them. So if you pick some spells that turn out lame, at the trainer you can just untick those spells and pick others - there's no cost for that.

It's a friggen hard game, hah.

| Take it Back!

I rescind my previous nonchalant stance on GH:Metallicatz. I played some more last night and it is actually really good! Sure, some of the songs are less than awesome, but even then , the song/note/keystroke structure are really good and varied. Interesting to play at the very least, challenging to play at best!

I failed out on quite a few songs on expert already, which is good!

Even if you could care less about Metallidrunkz, it is totally worth the rental to play around with it. If you liked Alcoholica, then really, really rent it!

Slayer: War Ensemble kicked my ass in a jiffy, and I have bombed a few of the Kill 'em All tracks because the soloing is intense and lengthy.

That is all!

PS Has anyone finished any of the quests for Dark Spire? I did the graffiti one, but cannot go much past one or two encounters in the basement without needed to retreat and rest before another delve. Still 3rd level, which might be the problem. Anyone?
Aw man, that sucks Johnny!!! So what day will you actually be there? I fly in thur morning, and then fly out monday morning. Hopefully you're around at least Sunday dude, I miss you man!!

| Miss 3 day Con!

Dammit, serious? I didn't even check the Kon schedule thinking I'd make it because it was going to be the last weekend of the month!  Quite an oversight from my side.  But if thats truly the case then yeah, I'll just be packing in the final laggard days even if I'm on the redeye flight and have to make there without a shower.  Wait... i'd actually blend in!   Most of you will be there right, is lovely michael going?  Just in time for maybe a few mush hot dogs and brick and gravel pizza.  Any game new or old, I would play.   I only know the old games now, i'm not too keen on the new ones, I would play giganten, railroad game, blood bowl, space marines, carcassone, settlers (i wanted to join the tournament) and things like that, NO GURPS or RPGS!

What's this DS stuff?  Sorry rude, I'd offer my translation services, but you'd probably be just as well off without my translations.

by the way, all Philippine manufacturing is down by 50-70% revenue.  I don't see how we are recovering.  Propaganda anyone?  I believe in this confidence stuff, but really, is there anything substantial to it or just some emperors new clothes?

Anyone want anything from the philippines?  I've got 1 week left, so speak up!  Some more wooden mug ales?  Fine philippine craftsmanship, bags, souvenirs, recycled rubber condom-ints?

Oh by the way, anyone using Linkedin?  I tried to find some of you but can't.

| GURRRRRRPS

I say, if you can't sell the GURPS, we can totally sell GURPS to Eric's new gaming friend. We will tell him it is the best system ever, with worldbooks for GURPS Gilligan's Isle, GURPS Dave, GURPS Superscum and GURPS Voodoo. Two problems solved.

Ahh... I see about Dark Spire. Oh well, still sounds cool. Might give me a reason to confiscate my GF's DS from time to time.

| Things have been said that can never be unsaid. She said my vanity license plate was incrutable!

Welcome back Ja-el! I'm looking forward to rolling some dice and eating barbecue with you again. Are you just coming to Kubla for the last day then? I won't be there on that day so hopefully we can hang out the next weekend, when I get back from vay-kay!

Enron, I don't think we're talking about the same Dark Spire? This is a newish Wizardry-style RPG that was recently localized into English (developed by Japs, but it's not a JapRPG). But it is a really good game!

Also, don't expect to play anything besides Necromunda until my gang finally achieves a victory. You know you love it. Phallus Gigantus led a pretty weak crew. Well, Big Coccyx was OK. But I have a really good feeling about Angela Deth's lean mean fightin machine.

Aeryk -- I am trying to divest myself of like 70% of my RPG stuff as well. The games I'm keeping are the few lines I actually want to play from now on. That boils down to Earthdawn, Savage Worlds, WFRP/Dark Heresy, Basic D&D, and 4th ed. I recently sold my Exalted books and I'm wondering what the heck I'm gonna do with two boxes of GURPS books and all this 3rd ed crap. I thought about bringing some of it to the flea market but I have the same doubts as you. I don't want to waste car space hauling that shit to the con only end up not selling it.

| afganistanimation

I gotta get back into Dark Spire now that everyone's playing it! The setup I was having decent luck with was warrior in the front, everyone else in the back. Get your warrior as low an AC as you can
and just nuke from the back. The theif can use a bow and can also "hide" and then backstab an enemy from the backrow the next turn after hiding - but I have better luck just shooting.

Mostly when I play the DS I play the japanese import for Picross 3D ("import" through the internet!!! aahahaha) it's pretty cool. I still might fundamentally be missing something that would make it easier, but overall it's pretty cool puzzle game. Maybe Johnny can translate the directions for me.

CON! Got my plane ticket, I pre-regged, I'm READY!!!!

| Boobla Khan!

Ahhhh... Ja -El... You do realize that the Boobla Khan is taking place May 22-25, right? This year seems to have created a bit of confusion because the last day of the month is on a Sunday, making Memorial day weekend not the last weekend of the month. FYI, a number of Actionteamers are showing up on the 21st for some early action.

ElZar, we will initiate this gaming virgin via rape. Nothing like busting the cherry by letting a person loose with the LARP freaks and chit Nazis. Oh wait... Boobla seems to have a limited amount of these aspects. Boo... I'd be up for some Talisman, BSG and BB. I will likely skip the RPG sell off frenzy.

One of my managers keeps showing up sick as a dog. If I catch what she has and end up ruined at the Con, I will be so fucking pissed. She missed last Tuesday and Wednesday. Showed up a wreck on Thursday. Didn't show up on Friday, then tried to come in Monday and left work after 45 minutes. Should she be here right now given we have a ridiculous number of sick days? NO! Everyone at the office is giving her the don't touch anything in my office treatment.

I want Dark Spire. I had that game on the PC and loved it. Unfortunately, I was never able to finish it due to the old style copy protection system using passwords from the manual for "puzzles" in the game. I think I may pick up a copy for the DS.

Necromunda was fun. I haven't played it in a long time. Even though elZar and I killed this game back in college, I really enjoy the campaign aspect of it. Its not a bad game all in all. Goofy, but good. Much better than Gorka-Morka and Mordheim.

| Kublacon, i'm heading

For my final trip in Asia, I'm visiting singapore on the 21st and leaving on the 24th.  There, I'm gonna enjoy a little bitter sweet contemplation, meet with some Aussie guy (manufacturing some type of termite killin gizmo), and then some electronics vendors for the biz, and then gone for good.  What an undramatic non-fanfarous comeback to the US after enduring 50 million hours of low grade pirated movies.  But then again, what did I expect?   Bought myself a cheap airline ticket which is unusally abundant for this time of year, got a one way ticket about half a grand probably probably because of the swine flu.  I am looking forward to try out my gaming legs back at the old con too.

*  Played briefly Travian and Warstorm online browser based games.  I dunno browser games are quite boring.  And they make you buy shit so they can make money seemingly "legitimately" without monthly fees.  I guess it must work.  who am i to say?

*  Played through some Teardown SE after one of the AT members mentioned it a while back.  I got through pretty much all the missions and had 4 cardinals...  kinda fun but the AI is weak. Fun!  Good memories.

*  Axis and Allies anyone???

*  I'll be glad that i'm back!

| Teh Kooblarz

1) GW con is mostly fine by me, with the exception of Necromunda. Unless I can use my useless AT-43 guys mixed with some of my Warmachine stuff... now that I think about it, not a bad idea!

2) Chris, a dude from my work, is coming to the con on Saturday with a friend of his. He is somewhat of a gaming virgin, but played a lot of video games growing up, etc. He's 24 and TOTALLY fired up to play some D&D. I have him listening to the D&D podcast, playing WoW, and we played a lot of Hive and Kingdoms on the plane to Dallas for our last business trip. He's a nice guy, so be kind you unwashed heathens.

3) I went to Dallas for a business trip.

4) Played a lot of Hive, which I really like more and more. It is just the right mix of speed and taxation on the old mind grapes, which I like.

5) Addicted 100% to Plants v. Zombies. Beat it tonight, so the fever should cool down shortly. WELL worth the $10 through Steam.

6) Also picked up Dark Spire, per the AT recommendations. Some of my characters are 3rd level, but the thief is still low 2nd because the game is clearly sexist and she dies like every other fight, AC 5 and all. It truly is an old skool RPG - so much dying, saving money to rest properly and resurrect, etc. I have crappy weapons, crappy armor, can't afford enough of anything, and the dungeon repopulates in almost the same places with wandering monsters (damn you 6x Thieves!). Despite the advances to gameplay we have witnessed over the past 20 years, despite the nuances, the elegance, the subtlety, the narratives, I am still drawn to this sort of mechanical RPG experience. It is totally the fundamental, lowest common denominator reason that WoW is so successful: I just want to play a little but longer JUST to possibly get some more gold for my next rez, or maybe find a leather helm, or maybe...

Good stuff. I am throwing my hat in the 'recommend' ring for this one.

7) I am up for some BB, too. I wanted to paint and bring a new team, but who are we kidding. Anyone interested in playing the full day 3 game ranked and sanctioned tournament on saturday?

8) Talisman? Sure! Maybe someone will foolishly pick up the two expansions, and 4th - Revised edition upgrade packs while we are at it!

9) Rock Band: Metallica? Exactly like you would expect it to be. If you are a fan of the band and they had some not so small part in molding your adolescence, then pick it up. Otherwise, no big loss.

10) I have played A LOT of Space Hulk at work during lunch and it really doesn't get old, against the AI anyway.

11) BSG? YES PLEASE!

12) I am taking Kubla-Friday off from work so I can spend a the morning with Wylie and take him to pre-school before I drive up, so I will be in Kublacountry early afternoon.

12) Anyone want to go all frenzy on my RPG books like some of you did on my boardgames last year? I am tempted to get a flea market table but fear the books will not sell as well and I will a) need to heft more actual weight and boxes to make less money, and b) feel sad if I don't make (recoup the sunk cost, that is) as much as I did on boardgames last year. Anyone been salivating over anything I own?

13) 30 Rock, anyonw? It's as close to Arrested Development as I can get right now and I really like it! Of course Leslie and I have watched both DVD seasons in like a week, so now we are sad there is no more...

| Maybe we should just make it GW-con

I seriously think I'm going crazy, because I've been thinking about Necromunda constantly since Saturday. I'd be perfectly happy just playing the following:

- Necromunda (I put together my retarded Escher army from various models on warstore, plus ordered a cheap space marine kit to cannibalize for parts as well as some 40k terrain -- I am tempted to post links to the models and names/backstories, but I already feel like I've been posting too much lately -- don't want this to be www.thejronteam.org)
- Talisman (I really want to play this, it looked fun last time when a bunch of you all played it)
- Blood Bowl (only got in a half game last time, want to get in at least one full one at the con -- I was tempted to buy an amazon team while I was at it, but warstore doesn't carry the Specialist line)
- Space Hulk, because it's awesome

Oh yeah, and BSG. Not a GW game, but maybe I'll tape the logo onto it and we can just move on.
I'm going to go play Fallout or do something to think about something besides miniatures....

Happy Mother's Day (because you all act like old women!) Took my mom to Star Trek - it was pretty good!
