A funny follow-up to our favorite time travelling wanted ad:

Safety REALLY not guaranteed..

Myke.. good news on the STFU interview. A tip: Next time you talk to your potential future boss, ask him, "Should I bring my FUCKING TOOLS?" Because, I think that would go over well.
STFU Review

Apologies for not having given a report earlier - thanks for all of the good wishes, they were much appreciated and gave me some sanity on Sunday night. I will post a longer review tomorrow and my own results to the survey (probably once everyone's already lost interest). The interview was grueling, 12 hours, from 8 til about 8 at night, including difficult questions during dinner even! Besides that, the Latin seemed to go ok, but I've no real idea about if it was good enough. My other talk was ok, and the students were good. I'm a little worried about ending up teaching things I'm not really interested in for the rest of my life, but possibly that won't really be how it would work out. Now, it's just a waiting game to see what happens. They should let me know within two weeks from last Monday I think. I'll let you know when I hear. If I hear negative news, I am considering using Jael's suggestion for a 3d6 based attack - fortunately it was not necessary on the day itself.

Got to have a drink or two with Enron, and a call to Jon (hope you're feeling better buddy). Now I'm grading papers, and am thinking of developing a dice based grading system. Any suggestions?

More tomorrow afternoon, when I'll be bored and grading papers.

Elrock, so you're Convenshun bound? Fancy going on Sunday? Then we could go together.

Rudy - its great to see you posting, and its been so long since we communicated. Hope things are going well for you! You still nearby?

Myke
A pattern has formed in everyone's responses...

SO I tested things out:

Fascist : You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness. Or... Totalitarian : You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness. That is the test writer's subtle little commentary. All political ideologies internally subscribe to the belief that they exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness. READ: Righteousness.

Rudy are a

Social Liberal
(83% permissive)
Economic Liberal
(11% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Socialist

You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness. My famous peeps is, i'm between hilary clinton and ghandi. go figure!
Truly a dichotomy!

John Kerry = Joern Petersen

Also you'll be having rugrats with your match Helga Hans Mueller!
More Liberal Than Thou

Right now I'm the poster boy for sissy economic liberalism on this sight, a strange dichotomy considering my violent fits of two-fisted gunmanship:

Social Liberal (73%)
Economic Liberal (18%)
SOCIALIST

I'll see you guys in East Germany!

The only true objection I have is that they put me on John Kerry... and man, I hate that guy.
Hahahaha that cracks me up

I took the test for the hell of it...

Social Moderate (41%)
Economic Moderate (41%)
you are described as a cenrist
You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.

but the really funny part is if you click on the famous people (supposedly indicating who you stand with) AND I'M RIGHT ON THE POPE! So you uncatholic believers, I am the epitomy of catholicism even in politics.
Love and Death

Man I also took the OK Cupid test from the politcal test site and I am a The Boy Next Door: Random Gentle Love Dreamer which was not nearly as interesting as my exact opposite, The 5-Night Stand: Deliberate Brutal Sex Master. Damn. I kind of wish I was the DBSM guy because that guy has an awesome moniker. I think the next time we roleplay, my characters profession will be Deliberate Brutal Sex Master. Also I will die when I am 83, from cancer. I have lived 38% of my life, Boooo....

Elzar: Yeah that is creepy, but then again we have always been a bit like minded. I mean, you can not play Banjo-Man Combat Fuck with the Deliberate Brutal Sex Master while bunking with him in the dorm and not align with his political ideologies. One ring to rule them all.

You are a

Social Liberal

and an...

Economic Liberal
(25% permissive)

You are best described as a:

Strong Democrat

You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness.

That's me in a nutshell.

EDIT: It's kinda creepy how Enron and I are like a total of 7% away from being identical....

ALSO: WTF with the interview Mike?

ALSO ALSO: I'm totally going to the convention this weekend to play not only ASL, not only Up Front!, but also Command and Colors: Ancients!!! I don't need you guys at all, I have the convention to provide local, gaming companionship!
Eat This!

I guess I am a Social Liberal (78% permissive) and an Economic Liberal (30% permissive). I am best described as a Strong Democrat. I exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness. I guess my views have suffered as Bush would probably say, "leftifizationism" in the past few years. I used to be more Libertarian. Usually I see myself as more economically conservative. Maybe the spat of insane corporate news has turned me away from that ideology. (eNron book cooking, M$FT, Googleheim censorship in vaChina, ExxonMobil profits of insanity that borders on profiteering (4 of the top ten annual profits ever made by a company evAr are from Exxon, this years being the highest), ummm Halliburton, WalMart Union busting/Undocument workers scandals and predatory pricing, SCO bullshit lawsuits, RIAA lawsuits, etc...) These jArks leave the foul taste of ashes in my mouth. They also make all corporations look bad, which is not true. SOmeone needs to rein in the bad boys. Solution: No more corporate political donations and corporate insane corporate sponsership of lobbist groups. ALso REFORM PATENT LAW! Especially for software. Yeah like that will ever happen.

O: Safety not guaranteed. Funny shit.

The guitar game sounds sweet, all the way until my "stupid fingers" ruin all hopes of being a rock star. Well that and I have no rhythm.

Has anyone played Civ IV? It has some pretty good reviews and I have been getting the old Civ itch lately.

It was good to see Myke on Monday, albiet a bit brief. I even had an extra beer at the Tunnel Top with Myke in honor of our sickly comrade jr0n.

This one always kills me... SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED! LOL..

Short and sort of interesting political "test" to see where you are categorized..

No suprise to me, I am a socially liberal, economically conservative Libertarian, aparently.

'Twas fun

It's weird, playing that game, because there are moments where it goes from the screen to your eyes to your brain and to your fingers all zen-like without any effort (like those last two songs, for whatever reason) ... and then there are those moments when it all goes to hell and you're clamming every note/chord and you're struggling to catch up and make the "connection" again.

I think at the end there, your hands were just getting too tired. Cowboys from Hell in the final set is rediculous, btw. I went back and replayed most of the songs (going through my old band saved-game).. and that one in particular was kicking my ass. Ace of Spades was a bit rough as well.

Playing the game on Hard or Expert has to be absolutely insane. It'd be one of those situations where you pretty much have to play/replay a particular song enough times to more or less memorize it. It's just too crazy to actually follow along with the notes.. let alone with the extra pinky button (one pinky-stretcher is fucking hard enough!)

All in all.. the game is entertaining, and would likely be extended-fun with the dueling guitar contests.. but I have to admit I was a little disappointed in the overall depth of the game. The different characters you "unlock" really don't mean anything, nor do the different avatars or guitars have any varying impact on the game. It would have been nice to see some kind of positive reinforcement for messing with those options and earning better equipment with your hard earned loot.

There I was, there I was, there I was... IN the Congo.

Yeah, Guitar Hero is pretty fun. Initially, it was odd for me, because as Art put it, it was like relearning guitar. Then, it came perhaps somewhat easier for me because I had "training" in guitar. Also, if you know the songs to almost any extent, you will have a leg up.

I knew about half of them, some of them intimately (Ace of Spades/Motorhead, Unsung/Helmet, Bark at the Moon/Ozzy, Infected/Bad Religion, and some others) which helped. So, in total, I spent probably 6 hours in one day playing my guitar with my band, One Beer Mary, and Art put in another hour with my character, and we beat the game on medium. At one point, I had had enough and couldn't do the harder songs on the last level, and Art took over like a man possessed, and kicked the Stevie Ray Vaughn and Ozzy in the ass for me! It waas quite the spectacle! his eyes rolled back into his sockets for one part, I swear!

So yeah, it's a really fun game, and I was fired up to get it, and still am, but since we basically beat it in one day, I was a little put off of picking it up right away. Of course, that was on medium, and only used 4 of the 5 keys, so there is a whole other world of guitar hurt waiting to be laid upon upon my brain at the harder levels....
Yeah I forget what trend setter here mentioned being hooked to Sudoku, but yeah, i started in on websudoku.com and i've been pretty hooked. I'm pretty slow with it and i use the "pencil mark" feature that leats me type in all the possible numbers then i can delete em as i go along. pretty fuckin fun game!

you learn what it takes to take of your sunglasses. he does it about 300 times in the flick, and in a very manly way everytime. but yeah, its a very cool sci-fi movies. i was pleasantly surprised1
Well, if my man Rude recommends Chronicles of Riddick, I'm gonna have to see it. After all, we go way back. Kull back. One thing I want to learn though, is, do we learn what it takes to change the nature of a man?

I want to play Guitar Hero sooo bad. I've been thinking about picking up a PS2 instead of buying into the next generation of systems. Is that weird? The new stuff that's coming out just doesn't look all that awesome to me.

Jael, you cracked me up with the out of nowhere D&D reference. Mike don't forget that his tactic would also cause your opponent at least 3 permanent Charisma damage and melt half of his gold, too!
is this like the worst holiday or what!?! Where my ladies at? You with me on this one girls?!!?
The new NOFX is good, an EP i guess, "Never Trust A Hippy". DL THT SHT!
EDIT: PS it is REALLY good! Haven't heard theyre last few cds, but this one is def some primo shit my friends! Do yourself a favor and cop this hot punk! From the streets of San Franscisco! CPP IT!

Here's a sweet character sheet: Whoz thiz?
PS: How's Kirin Tor? My last server was super lame but I'm thinking of buying another month soon for the heck of it. Friendly Place? And where u at Jael? Does PH have its own servers?

Heh, finally saw Snatch and Lock Stock and Barrels of monkeys fun. I liked em both - good movies. Chronicles of Riddick was very good also, much better than pitch black. AWESOME ending. "You keep what you kill." Haha, fake ass konan ending, but still a great flick imo!
I just want to say.. Eric and I rocked the shit out of Guitar Hero today.

VALENTINES DAY 1 : The Life of Lid-Lee

So, here i am, in the factory and it's February 14, the notorious V.A.L day. shhh. Not to mention the factory is staffed 80% with women. Never go swimming in the company pool, especially when it belongs in your uncles house backyard. That's the motto. Or was it never go dipping in the company pool. well whatever. So it feels awkward not to have that special someone to share anything with. Anyone care to pitch in some ideas, introductions to hotties... hmmm? Guess not. So it looks like it's a warcraft night. The computer CPU, pentium IV's with their overheating tendencies should keep the apartment warmed amply! Hazzar! In a company staffed with women though, the gossiping and the cherishing of this day seems rampant like a plague of chattering locusts. Everyones spirit is so perky. Why? Are we celebrating the scarcity of relationships or headaches? Bah hugbug.

Show me a happy couple and I'll show you liberty!

I saw "Memoirs of a geisha" the other night. I can see why Janice was raving about it the other day (a few weeks back). It was kind of melodramatic and not really suspenseful. It does offer a slightly darker side of reality being a highly paid japanese prosty. I won't ruin the story or talk about it. Just watch it if you have 2 hours of stale time to watch a well filmed movie. Props to the props used as well.

Okay: Mike, good luck, remember when in doubt, douse yourself with flame and oil and hug em. That should do 3D6 worth of Hit points before being killed.
Heya, good luck Mike! Would be cool to have you semi-local!

Wow, I really don't like the olympics. Horrible music (coors light/redbull inspired commercial RAWK with "rawkstah!" solos all over the place.) god, fuckin this shit is so boring. fuck you olympics!

workin on some tuneage for you art - i quit smoking about 2 weeks ago (maybe little longer) so it's pretty hard for me to sit down and knock out tunes (it was very hand n hand with smoking, so its weird to be no smokin while i do it.) maybe u can give me a ring during the week and i can play u some stuff over the phone.

those garfields were very funny, nice find!
Best of luck to you M. Byke. If you the have time, give us a call. Grab a bite or something.

O Rugs: That is a ridiculous photo. If I had not seen a special on FoodTV about the restaurant that serves those burgers (Something like 5 pound burgers) I would have thought it a photoshop trick. That was one huge man too. The helmet is the real topper though I think. Did Elzar and I tell you about the poor guy at our Dorm in San Diego that we called Eat?

jr0n: can we role play the yippie edition instead of warmachine?

Best of luck to you Mike!

If you need to work off the post-interview jitters I will probably be picking through Enron's used goods tomorrow night so give me a call and we'll grab a beer or something!
Greetings from SF

Well, guys, this is it... the best chance I've had at getting a job anywhere near y'all. (Nearer to you too Eric, than Toronto!) Wish me luck! My heart is in my mouth already! I'm in the Chancellor on Powell Street, so if there's a chance to get in touch with either Enron or Enoto, I'll ring you tomorrow evening - won't be before about 8, but hey, it could be fun. Don't ring my mobile, I'm busy all day tomorrow from 8 till 8! YIKES!!!

That is all.

M
So, it turns out that Garfield becomes oddly amusing when you take out all of the animal dialogue!

More here!
LOL!

At first, I was thinking.. no frigging way that's real. And then.. I thought.. man, that's so rediculously over the top, it probably IS real.

Bling-bling!

Sigh.
Screw the poor.

And to show my contempt for them, I'm getting me some new bling bling yo! Hell yeah it spins beeeach!!!
