Your renters insurance will cover smoke damage to your property if it's gotten into your shit and has made it all smell like BBQ (just depends on how bad the smoke was in your unit.. but if the alarm was going off.. it had to be pretty bad). Renters insurance will also pay for you to live in a different place/unit while your place is getting cleaned and your shit is being replaced. If you don't have a renters insurance policy with replacement cost on it.. you're an idiot for not paying the roughly $10-15 a month to protect your domicile and goods.

But, seriously. If, for some reason, you don't have Renters insurance.. for the love of Oy-Dats-My-Leg, call your damn insurance agent and get it.
