Lactation Class
Yes, I was the only guy in a room full of pregnant women, which was totally expected and a lot less uncomfortable than I had imagined while sitting next to my wife and hearing someone talk about the joys of nursing and all the types of breast milk we could expect to see.
Interesting points:
~ Blue Slurpies turn breast milk green.
~ Cow milk (formula) makes babies burp/throw-up because we aren't designed to digest the stuff. Breast fed babies don't burp, they fart, because the milk is being broken down in their digestive tract instead of being "rejected" by their stomachs. Increases the probability of fever, infection and disease by about 3-4 fold over a breast-fed baby. Aparently, there is specifically a protein in cow milk that is incompatible with our system that causes the "rejection" by our body. New studies suggest that the protein (at least what isn't expelled) is stored within our body until such volumes exist that warrant an auto-immuno response like lupus, cancer, or any number of other fun diseases like IBS, Krone's and whatever else.
~ Rat milk is closer to human milk than cow or goat milk. (LOL)
~ Studies are being done on the healing power and feasibility of using breast milk to cure many diseases that are only symptom-treatable currently.
Anyway.. there's more, but I was actually fairly suprised at the volume of information and the quality of useful, interesting, information gained by attending.
Just put up the shelves in the bedroom and nursery last night. Only a month to go. Wow.
Late,
