I understand how the points/ranking system works.

What I have no grasp on (for lack of functional up to date hockey knowledge) is when I am presented with more active players for a given position than I have slots for, and should be basing my decision, in part, to start/bench a given player based on his match up against his opponent that particular night.

So, yes.. there are indeed matchups to consider. Matchups that I posess zero working knowledge on. I'm sorry I made you upset, but I think your anger/frustration is misplaced and without a legitimate foundation.
