| Nose

So I had septoplasty and tonsillectomy on Thursday, and besides moving to Hawaii, it was the best decision I have ever made. Sleep apnea will be a thing of the past, and if I know my fellow AT members like I think I do, read on. I know Jael was interested, so I will give a basic rundown.

On Tuesday, I went into Dr. Nina Lee-Tall's office for a pre-op meeting, and she basically told me that I am going to be miserable for 10 days. She said that people who get their tonsils out this late in life usually have tons of pain. So I left there ready to be in tears (more than usual) after surgery. Not only was she going to straighten my septum and remove my tonsils, but she was going to stimulate my palate with a needle and tighten up the skin to give me more room to breathe.

I went into surgery at Little Company of Mary on Thursday morning and the surgery went well. After, I was not in anywhere near as much pain as I thought I would be. Yesterday I went and got the packing out of my nose. Now, I have heard of people with poor eyesight putting on glasses for the first time and asking, "Is this how people are supposed to see?" I felt the same way about my breathing. I actually got lightheaded from the amount of oxygen I was getting. Miraculous. As I continue to heal, as the swelling in my throat continues to go down, I am getting great sleep and I couldn't be happier.

Just as a warning, my doctor said that my recovery is unprecedented. I still plan on being on liquid foods (Ensure, Jello, pudding, popsicles, cream based soups, baby food, etc.) for 10 days. Also, liquid vicodin has been my friend, but I am truly stoked. I won't have to use Rudy's sleep mask either. If you need more information on this, let me know.

I am living at my parents' house until August.
