| 40K RPG rocks! Games Workshop is teh sux0rs!

Even for Games Workshop, this is pretty impressive:

1. On Friday, GW (well actually Black Industries, their RPG arm) released Dark Heresy, the long-awaited Warhammer 40K RPG (based on the WFRP system).

2. This game sold like fucking hotcakes. I mean... it's the long-awaited Warhammer 40K RPG! Of course it's gonna sell. The guy at Endgame said it's one of their best-selling games ever, and it's already out of stock from all the online vendors already.

3. But in addition to selling like crazy, just because it's 40K, this game looks awesome, both in terms of physical print quality and (so far) in content. I don't know how exactly to put it except that by my admittedly non-scientific criteria it appears to be fucking metal. I want to play this game with, like, Napalm Death and weird electronic music in the background while ideally eating Taco Bell. I mean, your central job in the game is to violently hunt down mutants and aliens and stamp out insidious demonic forces, while praying that those same insidious demonic forces haven't corrupted your friends or colleagues, which they probably have, all in the service of a ten thousand year old cannibalistic God-Emperor. It's Call of Cthulhu meets boltguns meets "guilty!" That just sounds fucking great to me.

4. Today, GW announced that they're closing down their role-playing arm.

Go Games Workshop! They are notorious for breaking hearts (ex: WFRP, Blood Bowl, Space Hulk, Necromunda, Warhammer Quest...) but this is a spectacular example of pissing on your own parade, even for them. One full business day from opening up what by all appearances is a watershed new RPG, to shutting that shit right down! I mean jeez guys. The RPG arm was profitable, even if it wasn't huge. And it probably would've sold, I dunno, at least a few Daemonette miniatures or something.

On the plus side... the game is in my hands anyway, and it still looks metal. (Note: I have never used this phrase as praise before, please let me know if I'm using it right.) And they are still releasing the three completed expansions for the game. Even if they fail to do so, it doesn't matter that much. This is a big-ass, 400-page book that can definitely stand on its own. One thing that WFRP 2nd ed was kinda lacking was in world information and this game seems like a conscious effort to correct that (and it's got a huge adventure too).

So, three cheers to Games Workshop for doing what they do best... producing masterpieces and then utterly failing to support them when they suddenly realize they don't require customers to spend hundreds of dollars on Space Marines!

| The Streets of Rain Francisco

Did it rain last week? Yes, almost the entire week. Did it rain the week prior? Yes. Will it rain the balance of this week? Supposedly with today being the sole exception. I guess that is better than drought mania.

I really would like to see There Will be Blood. I have heard/seen quite a good bit of positive reviews. Congrats on your team making CIF. That was always such a big deal. That feels so long ago now. Sometimes when I see High School students or hear them talking on public tranny, I feel so old and disconnected from them.

eLzar, I think O rugs job is to be a dedicated comedy filter 80 hours a week. That BS about hospitality management, all made up to cover his true degree.

| There Will Be Blood = Fine Film

I have been going to the movies a lot lately. If I have an especially shitty day at work, I will find my way over to the movie theater and watch a movie solo. It is a very cathartic thing to do. During the week, there is hardly anyone there, and it's really mellow. Here are two films that I particularly enjoyed...

There Will Be Blood:
Watching Daniel Day Lewis act is like watching Michael Jordan play basketball or Wayne Gretzky play hockey. He is just a cut above the rest. He seriously made There Will Be Blood amazing just like the way he made a kind of so-so movie like Gangs of New York amazing. It is a little long, but go see this movie.

Kite Runner:
I loved this book, and unlike most adaptations, the movie was very true to it. It is about the bonds of friendship and how something as powerful as the Taliban can't keep family apart. Go see this movie. Super intense.

On another note, it looks like my girls' water polo team is going to go to CIF. We just have to win 3 more games which we should win anyway. We will finish 13-14 and 6-4 in league (third place). This is Torrance's first trip to the playoffs since 2003-2004, which is a big deal. Just thought I should brag.

Did it rain last week?

| Two-Second Movie Reviews

In the Mouth of Madness: Fun, although not scary anymore. Kid On Bike!

Cloverfield: Decent first half, weak second half.

Juno: Weak first half, decent second half.

Blade: Sweet Jesus this movie is awesome!

| Yeah, there's so much negative

publicity, and it totally sounds like a MLM gimmick product to me too. No worries mate, pass the Cool-aid! (I didn't bite for a bit but just wanted to get everyones thots on it. I figured the responses already)

But the only thing that gets me is the TV station endorsements... hmmmmmm?

Wow. Crying from laughing. Don't be put off by the intro, get to pictures and enjoy.

| Gas Additives

Ah yes the magic snake oil of cars. Just like some of the ridiculous speaker cable "snake oil" products. Buy our "$100+ a foot" (No joke) speaker cable and you will notice significant acoustic quality gains.

If gas additives were effective for performance/efficiency gains, much like other products of its type, the product would not be lurking in the dark corners of the market looking for buyers, but would instead be in your gas already or regularly sold to every customer at the gas stations. If it sounds too good to be true, it is. When in doubt research the hell out of it.

eLzar: Yeah some times I get nostalgic for the old Couches of Death, the coffee table with the Sphere/Pyramid/Cube that we often played Epic on, and the warm sleepy afternoons in that room. I also truly miss a more spartan style. The special lady friend likes clutter and our apartment reflects that.

| Ethos FR

Feeback? Anyone tried? Gas Additive?
makes your car go cleaner and faster?

Thoughts?

There were some contradictory views on the net regarding the product. In 2006, channel 7 and another channel did a consumer segment review and rated it fairly positive and a good buy. But on the net, if you search under opinions, it's touted poorly as another additive scheme and that it's peddled through MLM schemes, and it's not really all that effective. Also there's a rumor that Ethos FR is a pirated version of OMSTAR D1280X... But then why did the news tout the product? It's very likely that the news stations are wrong also, happens.

So just wondering if any of you has any opinions on the subject, hopefully with some solid knowledge.

February, i'm planning a trip to meet my mom and brother in Hong Kong! Coincidentally my friend Melanie will join a few days after my family leaves so I'll be hanging out with her as well. You guys should come to the Philippines~! I got some room and sleeping bag. Philippine Con 2008, sweet game cherry pie.

| Hmmm, let's see here:

- SO, I hocked my Les Paul and half-stack for a straight swap for a mighty fine electronic drum kit. I should get it on monday or tuesday, and I am fired up! I still have some credit left over and need to get a seat, or THRONE as it is called apparently, and a kick pedal... I am leaning towards one of their fine used double-kick pedals, cause come on, if I am gonna do this, I might as well do it right! For my next lesson I am supposed to learn to the best of my abilities 21st Century Digital Boy, Just Like Heaven, and Watching the Detectives....

- I will miss the warm orange glow of the Blue Voodoo tubes, but I just don't see loud guitar playing in my future. Quiet drums in the garage however.....

- Denis?

- I am going to a massive Flames of War mini's game this saturday at the BGG guy's house. There will be some six odd WWII mini gamers there, maybe there will be 1) some guys who also want to play ASL, or 2) someone younger than 50. Will keep you posted.

- The free xbla game this week, Undertow, is a piece of doo-doo. Not fun at all. No Fun At All.

- Nice pics Enron! I peeked at your xmas photos this year and was hit with a nice sense of nostalgia. Much the same way as you probably fondly remember some of your formative high school years spent at my house, some of those same years were spent at your house and seeing your dads style just takes me back! Sparse, museum-like, artsy, architectural, unique, totally clean and separate, yet whole. Weird. Anyway, I was nostalgic for the bullet hole car door, the glass tables, and some Epic when I saw those pics.

- ASL is so good.

- Nothing much else to say, I guess.
